The Savior From Sin
Michael Durham

Michael Durham (birth year unknown–present). Born in Springfield, Missouri, to Paul and Wanda Durham, Michael Durham is an American evangelist, pastor, and founder of Real Truth Matters Ministries. Raised in a Pentecostal environment, he began preaching at age 15 within the Assemblies of God, one of the world’s largest Pentecostal denominations, and graduated from Central Bible College in Springfield in 1981. That same year, he married Karen Perry, with whom he has three children—Shelby, Joseph, and Victoria—and two grandchildren. At 25, while pastoring his second church, Durham realized he had not been truly converted despite his ministry, struggling with deep sin until a transformative encounter with Romans 6:6–7 led to his salvation at 26. He served as a pastor for 23 years, including at Providence Chapel in Denton, Texas, before transitioning to full-time evangelism. His preaching, available on SermonAudio and Illbehonest.com, focuses on recovering New Testament Christianity, emphasizing Christ as the Gospel and spiritual authenticity, with sermons like “The Promise of Healing” and “The Parable of Love.” Durham’s ministry seeks to cultivate fascination with Jesus, rejecting modern evangelical trends for biblical fidelity. He said, “The old truth that Calvin preached, that Augustine preached, that Paul preached, is the truth that I must preach today, or else be false to my conscience and my God.”

Sermon Transcription
The text I pray the Lord be pleased to speak to us from is the Gospel of Matthew chapter 1 verse 21. Matthew chapter 1 verse 21. I want to speak on the theme tonight, the Savior from sin. Just a simple message tonight, but very much the message that we saw embolized in these three baptisms. Matthew chapter 1 verse 21. I want to speak on the theme, the Savior from sin. Gospel of Matthew chapter 1 verse 21. And she shall bring forth a son and you shall call his name Jesus for he will save his people from their sins. Normally a text reserved for the holiday season from which we passed a couple of months ago. Unfortunate it is that we reserve this text for that time of year for it is a text that ought to be used every season and throughout the year that we have a Savior and that he saves from sin. This is in the midst of a very difficult time for two young people. Mary the fiance of Joseph has told him that she's pregnant with child and she does not know a man but this thing has happened miraculously as an angel had appeared to her and told her Joseph doesn't believe her and has decided to end the marriage break off the engagement but that night in a dream an angel the same one that appeared to Mary appeared to him and this is what the angel told Joseph it's true what she said she is going to bring forth the son and here's your orders name him Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins what a beautiful name in fact I know no sweeter sound sweeter than the sound of one's own name they say that there is no music to the human ear better than the sound of one's own name but I beg to differ when you've come to know the saving Jesus there is one name that surpasses even your own it is his it is more beautiful than all the greatest symphonies of the world put together the music that that one name brings to the heart of a child of God it should make us sing tonight it should cause us to rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory never has a name been given among men that is so renowned and so famous and ought to be endeared to us all the renown of this name you know there are some names that strikes fear into the hearts of men can you imagine what the name Goliath did those 40 days when every day the name was pronounced before he came and made his repeated speech it caused even the king's heart king Saul's heart to melt within him but all my dear friends there is a name a name far more great and powerful than the name Goliath he's our champion and in every valley there you will find him fighting all of our foes and vanquishing them this is the name of our God Jesus who is this king of glory the Lord strong and mighty the Lord mighty in battle who is this king of glory the Lord of hosts he is the king of glory and his name is Jesus there are some names that moves men's hearts with all Abraham Lincoln George Washington you can't hear those names as a proud of America as a proud American and not feel some patriotism some honor but even more we who are God's people when we hear the names of Moses and David and Paul our hearts are moved with those names to awe and respect for these great men heroes of our faith but there is one name that surpasses them all the name of Jesus doesn't just the name hearing it fill your heart right now it does me just speaking it it's the name of the one who came into the dungeon of my sin and shed forth his light and set this captive free I'm free tonight because of this one who bears this name Jesus wherefore God also have highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name that at the knee name of Jesus every knee should bow of things in heaven of things on earth and things under the earth and that every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father oh yes it's at the name of Jesus that even the demons of hell tremble it's at this one name given among men whereby we must be saved the only name Jesus the Lord I want to approach this blessed name and his saving power in faithfulness to this text I would like to tonight prescribe to you first of all if we're to understand his saviorship we need to understand the severity of sin the severity of sin and then I want us to examine the saviorhood of Jesus and lastly the salvation of his people the severity of sin what would cause God the Father to send his only begotten Son into the world of men what would motivate the heart of the Son of God to come into the world and become a human fetus in the womb of a woman and be born a baby what could be so wrong that the God of all joy would become a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief and what could be so drastic that would demand of him to subject himself to the cruelties of men and be nailed to a cross why should he cry out to his Father while hanging between heaven and earth that he's been forsaken and abandoned by the same the Father why should he die the death of the curse suffering the red hot anger of his Father's wrath what listen what could be so wrong what could be so out of order that God would go to such sweeping measures and the only answer is sin right sin could be so wrong with man with me with you that Jesus would come and die and yet in light of God's actions to send his Son into the world of sin how can we wrongly think about sin we cannot afford to do so my friends you cannot afford to think lightly about sin and yet we are living in a day of the minimization of sin we reduce it we redefine it we do everything we can to not talk about it we relegate it to an archaic word men don't want to talk about sin and i understand that it's not a pleasant subject it's no more pleasant than the doctor telling you you've got a terminal disease and only have three months to live nobody wants to face that hour but beloved please i plead with you in the name of the one whom we have sounded forth tonight and will continue to sound in for his namesake and for your own would you play the role of a man or a woman and face this dire subject your sin whether you're saved or lost tonight it is good for all of us saint or sinner to come to face to face with the fact that we all need a savior that's right we must not do what the world is doing revising redefining sin i mean you don't find it mentioned in the world do you unless we scoff and make a mockery out of the word but what sad saddens me tonight is the fact you very rarely hear it in churches anymore we come to the conclusion that we can't talk about it because nobody will come and listen we can't call people sinners because we will offend them and we won't be able to reach them when have we gotten so wise that we know better than god when have we become so smart that we can bypass the cross because we don't need the cross because sin's not a big deal friends we have in our wisdom become fools it's a foolish thing not to confront your sin and to face it square in the face we blame our problems on everything but sin oh it's my financial situation if i was in a better status if i had more money then i wouldn't be in this predicament i am or it's my spouse if it was if i had a different husband or a different wife things would be better or my children or my job my boss today we hear often the problem is the government if we could just change government things would be better around here we could and we begin to point at all of these different things rather than to point to the real culprit and even if you should recognize that you are your own worst problem just like i am you still refuse to call it sin we blame other things we say well i'm not an educated person i'm not very smart that's my problem if i if i'd gotten a better education if i had this or that well then i could have a better standard of life or you know it's it's my temperament i've got a short fuse i'm just bad tempered it's just the way i'm wired and we do everything else but call it sin or we say well i just lack discipline if i could just get more discipline and we cover up our laziness with these kinds of terms or you say you know i'm given to depression i'm a melancholy kind of soul that's my problem or we call it by some syndrome we do everything we can but call it what it really is now don't misunderstand me if you're given to depression it may not necessarily be because of your sin but let me tell you every ill in society and every problem personally is rooted in sin it goes back to one man and woman in a paradise that god made at the beginning of time they rebelled against god and here we are the consequences is with us and part of the consequences is this you are born in sin you cannot escape it it is your problem sultan i just take a few moments and define what do we mean by this word sin most people have no idea what sin is just last week sharing with a young lady 33 years old and i asked her the question could you please tell me what do you think sin is her answer was well i think it's not thinking positively but negatively about things that's what sin is what has happened to us and this young lady grew up in church what has happened that we think sin is nothing more than negative thoughts listen to what the creator said why should we listen to him because he made us it just seems to me if he made us and made everything we see he gets to call the rules and make them and god has said this for all have sinned and come short of the glory of god paul is defining sin the apostle paul wrote that under the inspiration of god and he says this is the definition of sin you want to know what it is here it is coming short of the glory of god it's like saying the man committed a crime and he robbed a bank how did he how did he commit a crime by robbing a bank how have we sinned by coming short of the glory of god sin is to come short of the glory of god so now the question is what does it mean by the word glory god's glory what does that mean well it means his holy and righteous character god is holy god is righteous another way to say it is this way god is good and he can't be anything but good he's always good and because he's good he always does the right thing the good thing he's holy this means he's altogether different from us pure morally excellent the epitome of everything that is good and the opposite of everything that is evil another way to say it is this way that god's glory is his perfection that he is perfect in all of his ways and so therefore paul the apostle wants us to understand that sin means this it's coming short of god's perfection in other words anytime you're not as good as god you have sinned right and all have sinned and come short of the glory of god the same apostle paul in the first chapter of romans verse 18 says for the wrath of god is present tense revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men ungodly do you know what that means do you know what godly means it means to be like god god-like therefore ungodly must mean not being like god what is god's wrath what is his righteous justice against not being like him sin is not being like god it's to rebel against him it's to be contrary to his perfect nature who then can stand do you do you not have you not reason come to the conclusion that you are going to stand before this holy perfect righteous god and the bible says that everything you've ever done every thought every word every deed has been recorded in the annuals the books of heaven and the books will be open and god will ask you he will demand of you to give an account of everything done in this body and everything that's recorded there against you is everything that's not like god and my dear friend there is nothing about you that's like god except one thing he made you and he who made us has been rejected by those he made what great crime is registered in the heavens of heavens against us tonight there are people in this room tonight that are in jeopardy of that great day when you will stand naked before god when all hell and its occupants will be turned over to this seat of judgment given an account before this holy god who knows more about you than you know how can any of us stand before him tonight and not be guilty including this poor preacher do you hear me yeah please don't be offended by what i'm saying don't say i think i've heard enough i'll leave right now no no for your eternal sake please i ask you to remain endure this even if you want to leave and reject it do so but please not until you hear god out not me i'm just a mere mouthpiece i'm just a mere messenger i have no authority i have nothing i am nothing but a sinner saved by this lovely name and the person who bears it hear me one redeemed person claiming crying to one who needs redemption tonight who needs ransoming who needs deliverance who needs rescue do you not realize that life life never ends next week they may lay you out in the casket and they may say pretty words over you and they will deposit your body in the grave but you'll be very much alive somewhere you will be in existence you will be a thinking feeling person though without the body you will still indeed survive the grave either with god in the paradise he's procreated for us and those who believe upon this name jesus or you will be in hell where the worm does not die and the fire is not quenched you will be in torment because we've all sinned and come short we've not been as good as god but god in his goodness has revealed to us certain commandments in order to understand this glory for example how many of you've heard this commandment it's the first of the ten thou shalt have no other gods before me undoubtedly i'm sure most of you've heard that command what does that tell you about god because every one of these commandments is god trying to give you a glimpse and clue to his glory every one of those commandments are not there to kill your fun and pleasure but to give you an idea of what he's like because you can't see him god is invisible he he dwells in unapproachable light if you could see god you'd end up be a greasy spot on the floor tonight it would incinerate you and me and so god in his mercy has given us commandments not to regulate in order to be a prune or a kill joy but to let you know this is what it means to be like me thou shall have no other gods what does that tell us about the glory of god it tells us this god is supreme there's none like him he's the greatest there's none greater than god but it also tells us that god alone is worthy of worship which yes does include singing songs as we've done tonight but it's a whole lot more than that no no worship means he alone is worthy of service only god is worthy of your devotion only god is worthy to be to have you build your life on and around him that's what it means thou shall have no other gods before me means i'm the only one sufficient for you to be able to build your life on me everything about you so that everything about your life points to me that's what worship is hey it means god is altogether sufficient for all we will ever need and therefore we don't need anything if we've got god did you not hear these three young people tonight boil it all down i have found the great treasure i found the great pearl and jesus told a story did he not about a man who found the great pearl the greatest of all treasures the most significant pearl ever to be found and what did he do he sold all of his pearls his little bitty pearl collection he gave it all he sold it all to buy that one magnetic magnificent pearl that was beyond price these three young people have told me one thing if they told me anything that they have found the great treasure they have found he who bears the name jesus i'm sure all three of you if they had more time would have told you how they have drank from cisterns that will not hold water maybe a better way to understand what jeremiah the prophet means by that is think of a broken toilet and it's not clean that's what every worldly pleasure is listen to me i've sampled almost every one that i know and i have never found joy like i have in this jesus in fact the joy is so supreme i can't explain how great it is that's right it defies my vocabulary that's right truly peter's right it is joy unspeakable full of glory that's what thou shall not thou shall have no other gods before me means or how about the one that says thou shall not steal what does that tell you about god's glory here's what it tells you that god is faithful to give you all that you need don't have to steal you don't have to take something doesn't belong to you god is good and there's his glory and he's so good he will give you take care of you and give you exactly what you need god is good he'll not let you lack your daily requirements to survive and when the moment of death comes he will carry you into his presence and welcome you thou shall not covet is another one of those 10 commandments in fact it's the last of the 10 it tells us something very similar that god is all you need if you have god you have all you will ever need but also tells us one other thing about god's glory god is altogether sufficient for all we will ever need and therefore we really don't need anything i don't need to desire what you have nor manipulate how to get it you see the more you know this jesus all the things you thought were important pale so much that you don't even really care about them that's what it tells me but now listen if i break that commandment thou shall not covet if i really want something and here the word covet simply means i don't believe i can be happy nor satisfied without that do you see the danger what it says is jesus you're not good enough you're not satisfying enough but that is now do you see how we've all sinned and come short of the glory of god sin is a problem not just a behavior but it's also a problem of your nature it's just not what you do in other words it's what you also are in romans chapter 3 beginning with verse 10 as it is written there is none righteous no not one you know that's why some people don't like going to church because it sounds so negative maybe the young lady was right after all maybe sin is being negative how can this man say something so so bleak so dark so negative so so scandalous say me that i'm not righteous how can he be in the attempt to telling me good news just give me bad news because friends you need to know the bad news this is the problem we've minimized sin and its damning effect that we're not fearful of it i remember a christian i wrote an article why you should be afraid of sin and the person wrote me and said i don't understand i thought we was only supposed to fear god if you fear god you'll fear sin because sin is an affront an offense to a holy god and so paul says there's none righteous no not one that includes me tonight not not in myself there's no righteousness no good character because in myself as david said i have been conceived in sin and have been brought forth in iniquity everything about my nature is unlike god it's just not a problem in behavior it's a problem of who i am in my essence that's why you go to it and drink in sin like a fountain because your nature gravitates to it and then he says there's none that understands god there's none that seeks after god they've all gone out of the way they are together become unprofitable there is none that doeth good no not one and you say aha now i know better i'm not a bad person i am good i don't hurt anybody i keep the laws i pay my taxes i don't get in my neighbor's business i go to church i sing in the choir i teach sunday school i work with the children and i preach i share i talk about the bible and you just by that answer condemned yourself you just exposed your heart to believe that your goodness is like god's goodness is do you see how dangerous and deceptive sin is you may not think you have violated any of those commandments but to sit here tonight and think that somehow god is going to let you into his heaven when you die because you were good better than most is stealing the glory of god it's attributing giving to yourself glory or credit that belongs only to god listen if there's any goodness about my life it isn't michael the same apostle paul now listen this is huge the same apostle paul said i worked more than the original 12 apostles i did more preaching i planted more churches he didn't he hadn't finished writing he was writing one of those books of the bible right then when he said it but he actually wrote more of the new testament than any of the other original 12 disciples of jesus but he stopped and said but not i but the grace of god in me this same apostle said that he was present tense chief of sinners this man knew that any good achieved in his life and ministry was not his own doing it was the power of the living christ working through him mightily he would not dare steal one ounce of god's glory and the and the suggestion here tonight that you can sit there and say yes i'm good i do good things is stealing the glory of god sin is a ruling master for we know that the law is spiritual but i'm carnal soul as a slave under sin it manipulates you you think you're the captain of your fate the master of your destiny no you're not sin is it's the puppet master and it's connected to you and you dance at its bidding paul knew that at one time he knew the conviction the persuasion of his sin and his violation of the glory of god that one day cried an old wretched man that i am who shall deliver me from this body of death i thank god through jesus christ our lord well i pray that you're convinced that we all need a savior including you and if you're not yet convinced if the law and its terror the law and its penalty cannot persuade you may the love of god turn your heart towards him i want to talk about his saviorhood for he will save his people from their sins our text finds itself in the middle of the story of our lord's arrival to this earth as a man god became man what a an amazing thing it almost sounds too crazy to believe too good to be true that god would so love this world that he would give his only begotten son but yes it is true because that's how good god is galatians 4 4 says but when the fullness of the time has come at the right time in other words god sent forth his son made of a woman made under the law listen jesus came into this sinful world world operated by the prince of the power of the air i.e satan satan rules he has operations bases all over this world he set up in every person's heart who has rejected the gospel or yet to hear the gospel and christ came into that is pure holy good righteous god came into such an environment where sin was on every hand nothing was pure like him everything was polluted and he was made under the law why because he wanted to identify with you because once again we are all under the jurisdiction of god and of all of us we should leo to him our allegiance we obey him he created us he made us we owe him our servitude and so to identify with you he became a man and he subjected himself to the same commandments the same laws the same rules that god put forth to show us what he was like and he perfectly obeyed them all he's the only one my friend that did it you better hit your wagon to him because he's the only one who obeyed all of the commandments he satisfied god's law so that god said of him in a booming voice the clouds parted a beam of light shone upon him this is my beloved son and whom i am well pleased he pleased god perfectly and he lived 33 years just like me and you a human being with all the emotions of human beings he got hungry he got tired he got sleepy he felt the things that you feel only much more you think you feel pain you think you feel the burden when people reject you you think you struggle with temptation dear christian friend you don't even know what temptations like when satan tempted jesus he knew the full blunt force of those temptations because he was pure he had a holy mind that couldn't even think in impure thought and here comes satan with all these evil suggestions what a torment that must have been to him as a man he endured it all and then the bible tells us having been innocent perfectly obedient god was well pleased yet he dies as a criminal he's accused of breaking the law of god by the religious leaders the church of that hour of backslidden reprobate church reprobate preachers put jesus on the cross but the bible tells us that they were only instruments that someone else actually put him on the cross do you know who it was this holy good god this god of perfect justice put his blameless innocent son on the cross for us and the bible says that it pleased god to crush him crush him god took his foot and he groveled him and broke him to pieces you say i don't understand you've got me confused you said god is good god could never do that to his son the son told him father bring it on give me the full force of your wrath against my people's sins let me suffer in their place let me die their death let me suffer their penalty give me all of their sins and extract from me the full payment for each one there on that cross the father did what the son asked in compliance to his father's will he died in our place here's the good news but isn't it much sweeter to our ears tonight knowing what he saved us from isn't it good that we took time to think about sin and its severity so that we can see how sublime his saviorhood is how wonderful what he's really spared us from and delivered us and jesus died for our sins in a conference i was preaching yesterday i made some about that word for f-o-r paul says that which i have received of the lord i've delivered unto you that christ died for our sins according to the scriptures i'm thankful for those three three letter that three letter word for you know why because it means he died on account of he died in place of for the purpose of receiving the penalty of my sins that's why he's on that cross he's dying for you and your sins he's paying your penalty he suffered in your place listen to what the prophet isaiah says 700 years before it happened with precision isaiah saw through those centuries and he saw the suffering servant hanging on the cross for sin and here's what he said surely he jesus that's who he's referring to here hath borne our grief and carried our sorrows anyone here tonight carrying sorrows almost a foolish question in this time these confusing times were we often carry many sorrows but jesus carried your sorrows he's acquainted with every one of your pains and burdens yet we did esteem him stricken listen smitten of god and afflicted you know the rest of the words don't you some of you could quote him why could why can people why would you quote something like this why would you put that to memory this is good news this is our hope tonight why wouldn't we commit it to memory he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our put your name there michael daryl for my iniquities the chastisement the discipline of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed all we like sheep have gone astray we have turned everyone to his own way and the lord has laid the iniquity of us all on him there it is died for our sins he not only died for our sins he died to the power of sin because he was under the law sin had jurisdiction it has jurisdiction over you you belong to it you are its slave i don't care what you think i don't care how much you want to argue with me tonight it's not me you're arguing with it's the testimony of god this is the authority here tonight not this mere mortal man no no you're not listening just to a man you're hearing the words of god listen amen pay attention if you don't you will perish in your sin because if you reject god and what he did for you in his son there's no other recourse for god who is holy but to pronounce you guilty you've rejected his remedy for sin you've turned it aside you've turned your nose up against it you've said no thank you this is what our christ has done yes oh that you could understand that god would open your eyes to see tonight that here you are one little person in western kentucky and one day you will stand before the god of all the universe who knows every star by name because he made them and you're going out argue god and persuade him of your goodness oh would you not accept this sacrifice it's a sacrifice made for you has sin so polluted your mind that you can't even reason and think correctly tonight that you could hear this hope and good news and shut off the logic and say i can't grasp this i will not listen i will refuse this sin has led you to utter madness and sheer insanity my friend i'm pleading with you tonight don't listen to the devil anymore he's been lying to you sin has deceived you it has slit killed you and the hope that you have tonight is that there is one named jesus who will save his people from their sins you say i don't never heard anybody talk like this before that's the problem we have this hour if i could get on my knees and pull at your pant legs or your skirt and plead with you if that would make a difference i would do it but that can't do it the only thing that can change your hard heart your self-righteous heart your fortified heart hiding behind your own goodness the only thing is the mercy of god that he will break down that barrier that you have built proving it to be nothing but ashes lastly i want you to look at the salvation of his people you shall call his name jesus for he shall save his people from their sins we've watched three people tonight three of god's people obey him in water baptism the baptism the water didn't save no no it was jesus who saved him and therefore they were baptized amen they were baptized for the remission of sins in other words because they have had their sins forgiven they were baptized you've seen three of god's people god has a people the bible says husbands love your wives and then he gives the motive even as christ also loved the church and gave himself for her he gave himself for his people the church in other words another term the bible uses his bride his wife he loves us that much that he's willing to be in union with us forever and ever and ever so that what he receives from god the father for his obedience he shares with his people how do you know though that you are one of his people that's the question tonight and with that i will conclude after i answer that how do you know you're one of god's people well jesus said something very interesting one day to a group of religious people who thought they were good enough they were banking on their own righteousness being of the same caliber of god's righteousness and this is what he said i laid down my life for the sheep he called the sheep not a bad analogy what can sheep do to defend themselves we have an enemy the enemy sin what is a sheep going to do against a wolf but we have more than a wolf against us my friends the devil is often called the dragon in the bible did you know that he's called the dragon what are you going to do standing against a dragon you're like a sheep you're defenseless you have no powers of protection you can't even outrun the enemy but jesus said i laid down my life for the sheep my sheep and then he turned to those religious leaders those self-righteous men and he said but ye believe not because ye are not my sheep that's right meaning because you're not my sheep you don't believe because you're not one of mine you don't believe as i said unto you my sheep hear my voice and i know them and they follow me these three people has heard the gospel that young man over there adam heard me preach for about 21 years of his life i was there moments after he was born he's had to suffer me for all of those years and he's heard that over and over and over and over again i think he could probably get up here and preach the sermon for me he's heard it so much but every time he heard that message just like you're listening to this one he never heard the voice of the man the god man named jesus why listen to verse 12 of john 1 john chapter 1 and you'll find the answer but as many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of god even to them that believe on his name you know what that means means one day just a couple of months ago he heard the message again but this time whoever transmitted that message seemed to fade in the background and all he could hear was the voice of the good shepherd calling him to himself amen the sheep was astray and lost he was undone he was destined for eternal doom and ruin and yet the good shepherd pursued him came after him he wasn't looking for jesus no no the shepherd was looking for his lost sheep amen and then he spoke something about hearing the voice of the shepherd does something to the soul he creates a faith it engenders belief it's like there's no other option no one i want any other option i've never heard such melodious tones i've never heard one speak love like this before i know my mother my father loved me they would do anything for me but their love compared to this good shepherd it it's puny it does it pales in comparison for there is no one who loves us like the shepherd for he laid down his life for the sheep and he saw it payton and mckenzie saw it in a split moment they were dead in their sins they were lost separated from god they couldn't hear the voice of god in their spirit but all of a sudden this dear jesus who came to save his people from their sins breathed life into that dead spirit and they could hear the voice they were quick and within they came forth out of the grave they arose right and now they've been walking in newness of life it's not the work of a preacher it's not the work of a church not the work of religion religion is sending people to hell but the good shepherd he rescues sheep from hell they were born not of blood nor the will of the flesh nor the will of man but of god how do you know you're one of your sheep because you believe amen amen because you believe but you believe not my sheep hear my voice and i know them and they follow me how do you know you believe upon the lord jesus christ because you're willing to lay aside every false counterfeit those broken dirty toilets you've been drinking out of to satisfy the pleasures of your heart and you forsake them and you follow the good shepherd jesus who saves his people from their sins that's how you know you believe you want to obey him and you do obey him perfectly never none of us that's why we still need the shepherd that's why we still need a savior to save us from our sins we're not perfect we're far from it and that's why we follow him because we know only by his perfection will we be acceptable to god only by his righteousness can i be counted righteous by this holy god i've got to stay with him because he's my only hope that's how you know you're a sheep but you believe and how do you know you believe because you follow him you so trust him you know every other messiah every other savior's false every ambition will only leave you in the same place but not jesus you deem him worthy to build your life upon and around him would you believe upon the lord jesus christ tonight would you receive him as your shepherd tonight and follow him you too will be celebrated as these three the bible says the moment that happens listen to me the moment that happens a party breaks forth in heaven the bible says the angels rejoice over one sinner one that repents we've got three here can you imagine the shaking that's going on in heaven as the angels worship the one who bears the name jesus can you imagine why would we not celebrate if you would come and follow this good shepherd yes my my i think some of us would break down and weep for joy that another sheep has been found a lost one has been brought in oh to god would you believe in him for there is no other name given among men under heaven whereby we must be saved amen amen and now father nothing i can do i supplicate i plead with you not because you're reluctant but because a divine power is necessary if somebody's to be saved here tonight rescued holy spirit of god please for the glory of the one who died the good shepherd this blessed jesus for his sake reward him and his labors by giving him more sheep as your heads about and your eyes are closed i'm going to ask you to do what god tells you to do if you hear the voice of god and how would you know you've heard it because you see a way out and you believe that he's worthy to follow in every area of your life to be surrendered to him in worship devotion service if that's what god has done if he's spoken to you tonight don't leave here without talking to brother kyle or brother charlie or brother brian or myself we can't save you we can't even save ourselves but we can tell you more about this good shepherd and we can pray with you we can ask we'll stay here as long as it takes to help you to follow him yes and i pray that you will receive grace to obey him and it's in his name we pray amen
