Is Genesis Relevant in Today's Modern Culture
Ken Ham

Kenneth Alfred Ham (1951–present). Born on October 20, 1951, in Cairns, Queensland, Australia, to Mervyn and Ailsa Ham, Ken Ham is a Christian apologist, evangelist, and founder of Answers in Genesis (AiG), a ministry promoting young Earth creationism. Raised in a devout family—his father a school principal—he earned a bachelor’s degree in applied science (environmental biology) from Queensland Institute of Technology and a Diploma in Education from the University of Queensland. Influenced by The Genesis Flood (1961) by John Whitcomb and Henry Morris, he taught science in Australian public schools from 1975, rejecting evolution for a literal Genesis. In 1979, he co-founded the Creation Science Foundation (now Creation Ministries International), moving to the U.S. in 1987 to join the Institute for Creation Research. Ham established AiG in 1994, opening the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky, in 2007 and the Ark Encounter, a life-size Noah’s Ark replica, in 2016. His “Back to Genesis” lectures argue that biblical literalism counters cultural decay, authoring over 30 books, including The Lie: Evolution (1987) and Creation to Babel (2021). A radio host on Answers with Ken Ham and speaker at conferences, he debated Bill Nye in 2014, drawing global attention. Married to Marilyn (“Mally”) since 1972, he has five children and 17 grandchildren, living in Kentucky. Ham said, “The Bible is the Word of God, and its history in Genesis is the foundation for all doctrine.”

Good morning, CBC family. Pastor Billy here. As most of you are aware, we've had the privilege of hosting Ken Ham in the Answers in Genesis conference this weekend. If you've not been able to hear Ken speak, you're in for a blessing this morning as he mines the depths of the foundational book of the Bible, Genesis. But before Ken comes and speaks to us, I want to let you know about some of the things that are going on here at CBC. Some of you have already started your spring cleaning, and before you get rid of all those unwanted clothes, keep in mind our community clothing giveaway on May 18th. The pods will be open on Sunday, April 21st to start receiving your clean, gently used clothing. This is a great way to give back what God has blessed you with. Last month, we spent a few weeks talking about community, and some of you may want to know how to start a community group in your home. Next Sunday, April 14th at 915, we'll be holding training for existing home group leaders and for those who would like to launch a home community group. If you're interested, contact Ken Williamson at thehomegroups at cbcva.org to register or simply just to get more information. If you've been thinking about joining CBC or just like to know more about our church, then register for our next Discovering CBC class that's being held next Saturday, April 13th at 9 a.m. A light breakfast and child care, if necessary, will be provided, but you must pre-register at cbcva.org slash Discovering CBC. Now, join me in welcoming Ken Ham, President and Founder of Answers in Genesis, to CBC as he comes and shares with us the relevance of Genesis in today's world. Well, good morning. Well, it's great to be here with you. I see that it must have been an evolutionist trying to edit out some of the stuff on the video there. How many of you had opportunity to be at one or more of the sessions on the weekend, by the way? A lot of you. Well, that's great. What I wanted to do this morning is basically give a little recap as to the importance of talking about the book of Genesis and this whole topic of origins and add in some new material to really give you our heart and what this ministry is all about. You know, the ministry like Answers in Genesis, people tend to think sometimes that, oh, those people, they're just on about the age of the earth or creation, evolution or whatever. Well, those of you who've already been here in the weekend will understand our heart is this, to stand on the authority of the Word of God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. That's what it's all about. We don't want to just see people converted to be creationists. Creationists will end up in hell just like an atheist if they don't believe and trust in the Creator as Lord and Savior. And so, there's no point in doing what we do unless we're on about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Answers in Genesis is an apologetics ministry, which means we teach people to give an apologetic, to give a defense of the Christian faith. One of the problems I find in the church today is that so many people in our churches, so many young people, adults, don't know how to answer skeptical questions of the age. And as a result, we have generations of young people who actually begin to doubt that you can trust the Bible and that doubt leads to unbelief. It's one of the reasons why I believe the Lord has raised up the ministry of Answers in Genesis, the Creation Museum. I know many of you have already been there. The rest of you need to get there. It's an incredible place. I showed a video about the museum on the weekend. It has animatronics and theaters and it really is a phenomenal place. In fact, every ticket's a two-day ticket. There's so much to learn, to understand, and as people walk through, it helps moms and dads and children and young people understand the Bible's history is true. That's why the gospel based in that history is true. So I encourage you all to come to the Creation Museum. It's really a walk through the Bible, as I explain to people. It's not just about creation, evolution. It's a walk throughout what we call the seven C's. Creation, perfect creation, corruption, the entrance of sin and death, catastrophe, the flood of Noah's day, confusion, terror, Babel. Those first four C's, that's really the astronomical, anthropological, geological, biological history as laid down in the book of Genesis, which actually is foundational to all of our doctrines and foundational to the gospel, to the rest of the Bible, Christ, cross, consummation. And so as we walk you through that history, we answer the questions that cause people to doubt that history and help them understand the Bible's history is true. That's why the gospel based on that history is true. One of my favorite exhibits at the Creation Museum is a tiny little exhibit, and it's this one. It has a picture of my mother and my father. My father went to be with the Lord 17 years ago. My mother is 85 years old now in Australia. And there's my father's Bible with all these notes in there and a little Noah's Ark that he actually built me many, many years ago. And that little area there, that little exhibit stands there to challenge people. And I want to challenge each of us as parents, as grandparents, for instance, as people who are going to be parents. What legacy are we leaving our children? Because you see really the Creation Museum, the Ministry of Answers, and Genesis is the legacy of parents who taught their children to stand boldly and uncompromisingly on the authority of the Word of God. And that's the reason that I can be here this morning. And you know, my wife and I have done our best to pass that legacy on to our children. And now we're thrilled to see they're passing it on to their children. That's our 10 grandchildren. And my wife with them was taken in our home on Easter Sunday night actually when all our kids came for a dinner and we had great time with our 10 grandchildren. But they're all being brought up to understand that God's Word is true. And they're being brought up to know how to defend the Christian faith as well. The reason I want to put that up for you is because as I consider that spiritual legacy that's being passed on, do you know the statistics indicate in America right now that spiritual legacy is not being passed on in much of the church? Two-thirds of young people are walking away from the church by the time they reach college age. Some statistics indicates it's high as 80 percent. And people if you think about that generally speaking in all the churches across America today, 80 percent of the young people are going to walk away from the church. Where's the church going to be in America in a few years time? In fact we see a massive decline in Christian influence in this nation right now. Massive decline. And I want to talk to you about that this morning. Three verses of scripture we want to consider. So I've divided this into three parts. First Chronicles 12.32, the sons of Ishakar who had understanding of the times. You know they had understanding it was time for David to be king. Do we understand the times we live in? What's happening from a Christian perspective as we stand back and look at this nation? Actually if you're a born-again Christian and you understand who the God of creation is and and the doctrines that come out of scripture, you should be horrified by what's happening in this nation. And looking at it and saying something is wrong. Why is not the church touching the culture as it once did in this nation? Do we understand the times? Psalm 11.3 says if the foundations are destroyed what can the righteous do? If you take the foundation out from a structure, from a building, the structure will collapse. I suggest to you there's an incredible attack on a foundation in our culture today. The foundation of the authority of the word of God. And first Peter 3.15 says always be ready to give a defense or to give an answer to be able to defend the Christian faith. Sadly I find that most churches and Christian homes are not raising up the coming generations to know how to give a defense of the faith. You know as I said on the weekend as I travel all over the world and people know that I believe the Bible, I get asked questions like how do you know there's a God? How do you know the Bible is true? Who wrote the Bible anyway? Isn't it just a book written by people? How can you trust it? How could Noah get all the animals on the ark? What about all the ape men? What about evolution? Doesn't that disprove the Bible? Don't dinosaurs disprove the Bible? Carbon 14, doesn't that tell us you can't trust the Bible? And so it goes on. Put your hand up if you've heard those questions. Oh you see all the hands? Because you see it all relates to a particular attack on the Bible's authority in today's world. That's why we've heard those questions and that's what I want to talk about. Understanding the times. You know our whole western world is changing. I suggest to you if you want to see where America will be if it keeps going on the track it is right now, go to England. I've been to England many times and you know in England there are church buildings everywhere but now the norm, the norm is this. Those church buildings are like these. Here's one that was turned into a Sikh temple and this one into a rock climbing center and this one into a museum and this one a theater, this one into an information theater, this one into a clothing store, a habitat shop, a music store, a liquor store, a nightclub, a tattoo and piercing studio. That's what it's like in fact all across the United Kingdom and Europe. And people you know what's happening here more and more in America? It is, we're going the way of England. In England statistics indicate two-thirds of teenagers don't believe in God. In America two-thirds young people are walking away from the church by the time they reach college age. Won't be long and it'll be two-thirds don't believe in God. Statistics about American churches in America, around 4,000 churches are closing down every year. Up to close to three million people a year walking away from the church. Here we have the greatest Christianized nation on earth. Do you realize there are more Christian resources in America right now than you've ever had in history and yet for all of that, is America becoming more Christian as a culture or less Christian? What would you say? So therefore there is something wrong. We have to say to ourselves what is wrong and you know often we look at the world and we say look how bad the world is. I suggest to you we should be asking what's wrong with the church because we should not be surprised at the world and all its wickedness and rebellion against God. What we should be surprised at is why is not the church being the salt and light that it once was and should be in the culture. What has happened? You know as we look at the deterioration of this culture, the things we see changing, you know atheists are more aggressive than they've ever been in putting up billboards all across the nation to mock Christianity, to mock the message of the gospel. This was put up in Times Square by the atheists this past Christmas, keep the merry, dump the myth. They're beginning to put up billboards to mock the church and pastors who stand against gay marriage and so on. The American humanists recently started a special website for children to help children believe that there's no God and then think about the abortion issue and what's happening there. Ever since Roe versus Wade in 1973 around 56 million babies have been murdered in their mother's womb in America alone and you see organizations like for instance Planned Parenthood, YWCA, Girl Scouts heading a pro-abortion conference. There's an article just recently by Mary Elizabeth Williams who's a writer for a website called salon.com and she also writes for the New York Times and she wrote an article, so what if abortion ends life? I believe life starts at conception, never stop me from being pro-choice. In other words she said she actually goes on in the article to say I know it's living, I know it's a human being but so what? I can get rid of it if I want to. In fact she said in that article I put the life of a mother over the life of a fetus every single time even if I still need to acknowledge my conviction the fetus is indeed life, a life worth sacrificing. You wonder if are we really any different to the Canaanites who sacrificed their children to the pagan gods? And then when you when you think of where our culture is at you know every day about 3,000 children murdered in their mother's wombs by abortion and recently in Boulder, Colorado an elk was shot in the suburbs and as because of that elk was shot then all these people got together to have a vigil for the elk. It was incredible, they laid wreaths and had speeches and then they all held hands and sang a song, this will blow your mind, here they sing a song for the elk. They couldn't even get the words right, it was absolutely hopeless but what is wrong with a culture when you think nothing of murdering 3,000 odd babies a day by abortion and yet one elk is shot and we have this get together and sing amazing grace. You know it reminds you of Romans chapter 1 doesn't it, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie and worshipped the creature rather than the creator. That's what's happening in our culture, our culture is worshipping the creation instead of the creator and they're allowing the creation in many ways to have a dominion over man instead of man having dominion over the creation and then the gay marriage issue, wow that's a major issue because it's a major agenda right now and we have to be honest it's a major agenda of the President of the United States, just think of what he said in his inauguration address in January. Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law for if we are truly created equal then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well. You know what the Bible makes it clear we are created equal it's got nothing to do with equality it's to do with the fact of the fact that God created marriage and he created a man he created a woman he gives people different roles it's got nothing to do with equality he doesn't understand the Bible and blows my mind when the President of the United States quotes a passage from Corinthians in regard to the shooting of those children in Connecticut but ignores the rest of the Bible when it comes to marriage. In fact the Boy Scouts have been debating over what they're going to do in regard to their ban on gays the honorary head of the Boy Scouts as the President of the United States it's interesting that when he was asked in an interview before the Super Bowl about that ban and did he agree the ban should be lifted on gays and the Boy Scouts he said yes and then he said this my attitude is gays and Libyans should have access to an opportunity the same way everybody else does in every institution and walk of life people the church is under attack how long will it be before the church is told if you speak against homosexual behavior that'll be a hate crime people that the legislation is already on the books to do that that sort of thing is coming it's happened in other places Washington National Cathedral now will wed same-sex couples you have a church in Grand Rapids, Michigan that in April last year launched a program Westminster Presbyterian Church called Gay Christian Yes.org and as you know the Supreme Court just recently heard arguments about marriage to decide what marriage is I got news for the Supreme Court they are not God and there is a Supreme Court that's going to judge the Supreme Court and then and you want to want to know what marriage is all about well go to the one who created it it's already there in his word it's not up to the Supreme Court to define marriage who do they think they are and then recently we had in Florida where the court ruled that a homosexual threesome can be named on a birth certificate and what about what happened in Massachusetts just recently the Department of Education issued a directive that students who refuse to affirm transgender classmates face punishment and teachers were told if children decide that they want to be a girl or a boy they can decide which of the restrooms they go to and whether they want to be on the girls or the boys soccer team or whatever it is you know one of the books my wife and I now wrote a number of years ago and it's out there on the tables actually to lead children to Christ is called A is for Adam and we've seen so many young children come to know the Lord through that book well recently the secular humanists produced a book in California for children called A is for Activist and when you go to that go to L, L is for LGBTQ love who you choose or T, T is for trans transgender look at the last line the he she they that is you what a culture we live in in fact I want to suggest this to you that when you read Romans chapter 1 we see it playing out before our very eyes in America go home after the service you read Romans 1 that's America today you you think you're reading about maybe the Roman Empire well are we any different and one of the things that you notice in Romans 1 24 and 25 it says God gave them up to vile passions the fact that we see what's happening in American day in regard to the gay marriage issue abortion and so on I suggest you that America is already under judgment that God has given up the people to vile passions and that's why we see what's happening across this nation but why has this happened the question we need to ask ourselves is okay what has happened how did we get to this stage you know in 2 Corinthians 11 God has a warning through it for us God has a warning through Paul and we need to take heed of this warning I'll paraphrase it for you I want to warn you that the devil Satan is going to use the same method on you and your children and grandchildren and your neighbors and friends as he did on Eve to get you to position not believing the things of God people God's already warned us he's going to use the same method there's nothing different about the method Satan uses and what was the method well let's go back and see what he did when we go back to Genesis 3 verse 1 the serpent was more subtle any beast of the field which the Lord God had made and he said unto the woman did God really say do you realize the first attack was on the word of God the attack was to get Adam and Eve to doubt and then disbelieve the word of God and here's what I want you to understand there's been an attack on the word of God ever since Genesis 3 that has never given up the attack is on the word see I was trying to explain to people on the weekend that you know if the attack in our culture came out and said you can't believe in the resurrection I mean I know there are some that say that but most Christians would see that's an attack on the gospel but you see there's been an attack on the word from which the gospel comes and much of the church has succumbed to it we need to understand the attack is going to be on the word and that's what has happened down through the ages there's been Genesis 3 attacks but they manifest themselves in different ways in different areas of history and that seems to be what we've missed I mean when Peter and Paul were preaching about the resurrection nobody came up to Peter and Paul and said hey you believe in the resurrection what about carbon dating wasn't an issue in their day that's a 20th century invention when Martin Luther nailed those theses on the door of the church nobody came to him and said it's all very well to nail those theses on the door of the church but what about dinosaurs don't they disprove the bible well the word dinosaur wasn't invented until 1841 my point is there's been all sorts of attacks down through the ages agnosticism and modalism all sorts of attacks on the word of God and and God has raised up people in various eras to to defend the Christian faith and to deal with those attacks you know we need to say to ourselves what is the Genesis 3 attack today hey God has warned us Satan's going to use a Genesis 3 attack on us it's going to be on us and our kids and our grandkids to get us away from believing the word of God what is the Genesis 3 attack today and I want to suggest to you that the Genesis 3 attack is the teaching of evolution big bang millions of years that pervades our culture soon as you walk into the Smithsonian Natural History Museum you see this big sign of millions of years if anywhere in the world where you have an internet access where you have tv where you have public schools education system of some sort where you have access to museums people have heard of evolution of millions years it permeates the culture it's taught as fact through the through the education system and sadly it permeates the church much of the church most of our Christian leaders have adopted the ideas of millions of years and evolution and I suggest to you that it's had a dramatic effect on the coming generations and caused them to doubt the authority of the word and that doubt leads to unbelief I mean just to give you an example I showed a couple of these clips from the weekend but this is representative of the church this is not unique this is representative and it's representative of our Christian colleges and Bible colleges and seminaries in this nation here's Dr. Tremp and Longman III who's a professor of biblical studies at Westmont College in Santa Barbara this is typical of Christian colleges second it's equally important to send a message to the youth in the church that the Bible is not at odds with what they are learning in their biology classes about evolution in school and then where does that lead to well he continues on my understanding Genesis 1 and 2 is high style literary prose narrative leads me to conclude that it's not necessary that Adam be a historical individual for this text to be without error in what it intends to teach so once you have generations of kids in our churches who no longer believe in a historical Adam therefore no historic fall so what is the gospel so what is sin so where do we come from how can you trust the Bible anyway and besides which Jesus quotes from Genesis Paul quotes from Genesis Peter quotes from Genesis but Genesis is not true how can you trust what they say in the New Testament how can you trust the Bible at all and then we wonder why we end up with generations of kids today like this young man yeah how I became an atheist I was born into a Christian family and indoctrinated as a growing up as a kid that next year was freshman year of high school and I started learning about evolution in my biology class then that's where I realized I had never seriously questioned or thought about my religious beliefs so as I learned about evolution and just started thinking philosophically about it I realized that there couldn't be a God so I became an atheist I want you to understand that's not the exception that's the norm that's the norm in our churches two-thirds are going to walk away from the church by the time they reach college age and it's getting worse every generation we certainly have changed you know President Obama one of the mantras that he has been giving around the world is this whatever we once were we are no longer no longer a Christian nation also a Jewish nation Muslim nation Buddhist nation Hindu nation nation of non-believers I now know what he means by that we're no longer a nation that builds our thinking on God's word isn't that great we're a nation that says it's man who determines truth wow see how we've changed for the better right see people when you build your thinking on God's word as most of the founding fathers did marriage is a man and a woman we know what's right and what's wrong we have the absolutes of Christianity but you build your thinking on man's word who decides right and wrong in fact it's just like the book of judges in those days there was no king no absolute authority everyone did what was right in his own eyes and that's what we see today don't we we see see that permeating the nation and people I want to suggest to you that it's really the church's fault it's really because the church hasn't stood on the authority of the word of God against the pagan religion of our age and hasn't been the salt and light that we're supposed to be to the culture and hasn't raised up generations to stand boldly and uncompromising on the word of God how I praise God for a father who taught me to defend the Christian faith who taught me to judge what people say and believe against God's word and not the other way around you know in 2009 we did a research project we had America's research group go and research the two-thirds of young people that are going to walk away from that have walked away from the church and they actually went out and they found these people you know they'd about 20,000 phone calls to find the right number of people who said we went to church regularly as kids no longer go to church and then they asked them questions at what age did you begin to really question contents in the bible I want you to notice something 40 said they were questioning the bible by the end of middle school and an additional 45 by the end of high school if you don't believe the bible when did you first start to have doubts 40 percent having doubts by the end of middle school another 45 by the end of high school you know what that means these kids are starting to doubt the bible in our churches at a young age because what the influence of television public school and and other factors that I'll show you in a moment you know why we call the book already gone people today across America millions and millions of young people are in churches across America today and if you were to line them all up from preschool right through to college age and then say two-thirds of you walk outside that's what's going to happen two-thirds are going to walk away in their hearts and minds are already gone that's my challenge to you in their hearts and minds what about your children what about your grandchildren are they already gone and you see what we found out in summary was this what we tend to do in churches is we tend to teach bible stories oh we teach great stories of Jonah and great fish and and and Jesus on the cross and Adam and Eve and Noah in the ark and we usually have Noah's ark looking like a bathtub with you know draft sticking out the chimney about to sink at any moment no wonderful little story but you know what the word story today means fairy tale doesn't mean history anymore and the majority of those kids go to public schools and even though there might be some Christian teachers like I was as a missionary in the public school system you know if you're in that system by and large they throw God out the bible out prayer out they say to students in the textbooks you can explain the whole of reality by natural processes they say science can only explain things by natural processes you know what naturalism is it is atheism we need to wake up to the fact there's schools of atheism some missionaries in this system but there's schools of atheism and you know what's happening kids get the idea we learn real stuff at school what do you do at church oh we have stories wonderful little stories and then you know what else we found out most homes most Christian homes and churches aren't teaching apologetics you know we're not saying okay what's the genesis three attack going to be in in our age what are the questions that my kids are going to come up with out there my sunday school class what are they what's going to be thrown at them through the education system through the tv i and i can tell you what those questions you know you put your hands up before you've heard those questions so i want to prepare them i want to make sure that i teach them not just teach them the the bible and the bible is a book of history and teaching the doctrines from the scripture but i want to prepare them to be able to answer the skeptical questions of the age to know that they can trust God's word so that the devil doesn't use that genesis three attack to get them to doubt do we do that mom and dad are you doing that with your kids do we do it with our sunday school kids i tell you who is teaching apologetics the public schools and the tv here's the evidence the bible is not true here's the evidence for millions of years here's the evidence that you're you're just an animal here's the evidence you came from an ape man what do we tend to do in our christian homes and churches let's have a story and people we have got to start understanding the problem out there today you know psalm 11 3 says this if the foundations are destroyed what can the righteous do here's a barn that had a foundation that was collapsing and when that foundation collapsed the barn came down that collapsing structure to me represents a collapsing moral structure in our western world or in this nation why because the foundation has been attacked what foundation the foundation of the authority of the word of God and in this day and age the attack has particularly been on the book of genesis and particularly the first 11 chapters see i i've met many pastors and many parents who said things like this to me well when little johnny came home and said what do i do with evolution i said well johnny you can believe in evolution as long as God did it you can believe in millions of years as long as God did it you can believe in the big bang as long as God did it oh i hear that so often people say what's wrong with that you know what we don't know it doesn't matter how God did something as long as they trust in Jesus what's wrong with telling him they can believe in evolution as long as God did it you know my answer is it is not what God said he did it is an authority issue see what happens with little johnny says hey mom and dad you told me to believe in evolution as long as God did it but evolution has man from an ape man woman from an ape woman the bible has man from dust and woman from his side you i get it God got it wrong we take man's word is infallible and God's word is fallible that's what you're telling me i see we use man's word to judge God's word man must know everything God doesn't i thought it was the other way around yeah i can't believe the number of christians that say well you know at least the big bang has a beginning you know so what's wrong with saying God used the big bang people the the whole idea of the big bang came out of naturalism to explain the universe without God and then the the term was coined big bang and the big bang has the sun before the earth and the earth is a hot block and blob for millions of years the bible has the earth before the sun and the earth covered with water in other words God got it wrong is all we're saying you trust man's word who wasn't there man who doesn't know everything who's a sinful creature whose heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked who doesn't want to know the true God who's against God we take his word about things and we judge God's word is that what we do people that's what the church has done much of the church has done that believe in millions of years and say God did it do you know what's in the fossil record people just seem to brush this off oh man maybe the fossils lay down millions of years ago you know do you know what's in the fossil record death suffering cancer brain tumors thorns millions of years before man oh God called brain tumors very good I get it God called cancer very good oh when you look at all the death and suffering in the world that's our God been going on for millions of years and he said it was very good I thought the bible says death came after sin the bible says everything God made was very good see people we have a problem and you know the problem is the problem goes back to Genesis 3 we want to be God we want to think we can decide truth we would rather trust man than trust God that's the problem with the church but that's always been the problem and we succumbed again you know in Matthew 19 when Jesus the son of God who's the truth in whom I hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge who knows everything when asked about marriage said haven't you read oh oh the authority of the word haven't you read he which made the beginning made the male and oh male and female not male and male not female and female and this is the reason a man leaves his father and mother and please not his wife and there'll be one flesh you know where Jesus quoted from Genesis chapter one male and female in Genesis chapter two one flesh the details of how he made Adam and Eve you know what Jesus was saying the doctrine of marriage is built upon the history in Genesis you become one because you were one flesh because the woman came from the man and it's to be a man and a woman hey we better go and tell the president united states this he needs to know because he doesn't understand this here's the problem if you go and tell the president united states or the congressmen and senators or supreme court justices that today i'll tell you what they'll say because we've tried that with some of them oh yes but there are many christian leaders and academics and pastors who tell you that genesis is not meant to be taken as history and therein lies the problem by the way it's not just marriage i want you to think about this can you name one biblical doctrine of theology just one just one that is not ultimately directly or indirectly founded in genesis 1 to 11 why did jesus die on a cross genesis 1 to 11 why is there sin genesis 1 to 11 why do we need a new heavens and new earth genesis 1 to 11 why do you wear clothes and notice you are which is good but why genesis 1 to 11 god gave clothes because of sin why do we need a new heavens and new earth genesis 1 to 11 why is jesus called the last adam genesis 1 to 11 do you think genesis 1 to 11 is important people genesis 1 to 11 is the history that's foundational to the gospel foundational to all doctrines foundational to your entire worldview yet genesis 1 to 11 is the most attacked and mocked at and scoffed at and ridiculed and disbelieved and thrown out book in in the church satan has been very clever now look i don't want you to get me wrong and misunderstand me man do people go out and misquote us misrepresent us i have people who say it's because when you speak with authority oh then then people accuse you of all sorts of things they want you to get out there and say well maybe perhaps and i could be right and i'm not sure and you could be right we could all be right and let's get on together that's about the way the church is today and you know my answer is have you not read it is written thus saith the lord see we have people who say to us so you're saying if you don't believe in six literal days in a young earth you can't be a christian oh i get that accusation all the time no i did not say that look what does the bible say if you confess with your mouth the lord jesus believe in your heart god has raised him from the dead and believe in a young earth in six literal days you'll be saved is that what the bible says no no salvation is conditioned upon faith in christ not what you the six days of the young earth so so then people say okay so you can believe in millions of years and still be a christian oh there are many out there who believe in millions of years who are christians well then and you can believe in evolution be a christian i know people who are evolutionists who are christians who profess faith in christ well then it doesn't matter yes it does look you know sometimes you know i know pastors give a three-point sermon or a four-point i have a one-point presentation i am now getting to my one point okay you think i've given all sorts of points no it's just a lead-up if you get this one point then you'll get the message that we're bringing okay here's the one point okay what i want you to understand it's not a salvation issue but it's an authority issue which leads to a salvation issue let me explain i would assume that most of you in an audience like this would believe that jesus christ bodily rose from the dead let me ask you a question how do you know you weren't there don't have a movie rerun how do you know jesus christ bodily rose from the dead ultimately how do you know you might say well there were some witnesses yeah but how can you trust them ultimately how do you know because of the bible i see so you want me to take this as authoritative right there's a real record of history i see now wait a minute richard dawkins says a man can't rise from the dead shouldn't we take what richard dawkins says and reinterpret this no you can't do that but wait a minute we take what he says about evolution of millions years and reinterpret other parts of the bible why not take what he says about the resurrection and reinterpret you believe in the virgin birth how do you know because the bible says secular scientists say can't have a virgin birth in human yeah but you can't take what they say and reinterpret the bible why not you do that in genesis and see if i was to get into all the mainline churches over here in the east if that ever let me in if i was to get into those churches and i said and i went through the bible you believe jesus walked on water how do you know the bible says you believe that jesus fed thousands as a miracle how do you know the bible says you believe that a man lived in a fish for three days how do you know the bible says you believe the israelites crossed the jordan river and and the red sea as a miracle how do you know the bible says do you believe the israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years think about this and their clothes didn't wear out and their shoes didn't wear out is against everything we observe today well yes i believe that why well because it's the bible and the bible says i see but as soon as we get to genesis in this day and age and you go into our bible colleges and and our seminaries and and create many christian schools and and and many most of our churches with christian leaders christian academics and you say the bible says god created in six days death came after sin man from dust woman from his side there was a global flood and what do you hear oh no oh but what about what the scientists say what about the millions of years what about the big bang people do you see what's happened what's happened in this day and age and they use the word science to confuse us because as i explained on the weekend science means knowledge and certainly knowledge gained by observation to build our technology is great and we applaud it but knowledge about the past when you weren't there is a whole different thing and that's the problem they mix all that together and they brainwash everything confuse everybody and as soon as you take a stand on genesis but science says you can't believe that and you've got to reinterpret that and it can't be six days and and and death had to be here for millions of years and there wasn't a global flood and maybe god used evolution and and millions you see what we've done what we've done is this and it really started back in the 1700s and 1800s in england when out of natural naturalism came the idea of millions of years to explain things without god and church leaders added that to the bible and reinterpreted the days of creation or put a gap in or whatever and then along came darwin and they reinterpreted the bible to fit in evolution and along came the big bang and they fitted that into the bible and said god used the big bang and what they did was they were effectively telling the next generation trust in jesus believe he rose from the dead they preached the gospel but they had unlocked the door and the door they unlocked was but you don't have to take this word as written and you can put man and authority over god's word here and you know what happens when you unlock a door like that and particularly when you understand the sin nature of man the next generation opened that door a bit further and then the next generation of that door a bit further and then the next generation opened that door a bit further and before long you've lost biblical authority and people that's the issue you can be one of the greatest christian preachers of the gospel but if you don't take a stand right there at the beginning and you've allowed millions of years to be added into the bible what you have done is contribute to the undermining of biblical authority you may even see people saved through your ministry you may even build a big church or whatever but you stand back and you're helping america to head in the direction of england and that's the point that i want to get across to us which brings me to the last verse there first peter 3 15 always be ready to give a defense or to give an answer one of the problems is we haven't trained up generations who know how to defend their faith and that's what we've been doing all weekend and that's what's in the books out there and i didn't want to do a lot more of that this morning because we've done that but let me just deal with one one issue because i've mentioned the millions of years see the idea of millions of years comes from the belief that fossils were laid down over millions of years we would say most of the fossil record comes from the flood of noah's day it's very different isn't it but let me tell you how we're helping our kids understand these things you see the bible has the origin of death in genesis adam if you eat of this tree you will surely what die actually the first death was when god killed an animal and clothed adam and eve in the garden of eden one of my favorite exhibits at the creation museum the slain animal and and adam and eve wearing wearing coats of skins the first blood sacrifices are covering for their sin a picture of what was to come in jesus christ the lamb of god who takes away the sin of the world see if there was the shedding of blood millions of years before adam's sin what's the shedding of blood got to do with sin because the bible says without the shedding of blood there's no remission the life of the flesh is in the blood blood represents life so because we forfeited our right to live there had to be the giving of life to pay the penalty for sin but we're not connected to the animals an animal can't take away our sin because we're humans made in the image of god a man brought sin and death we'd need a man to take away our sin but has to be a perfect man see if you believe in millions of years then the fossil record and a record of animals eating each other by the way how could that be because the bible says originally they were all vegetarian genesis 1 29 30 we weren't even told we could eat meat until after the flood when god says just as i gave you the plants you're vegetarian to start with now you can eat all things which is the reason you eat a hot dog see even the origin of a hot dog is in genesis because it is everything it is all things you've got evidence of cancer brain tumors in the fossil record god said everything he made was very good there are thorns in the fossil record said to be hundreds of millions of years old the bible says thorns came after the curse the point i'm making to you is you can't have millions of years of death bloodshed disease suffering animals eating each other thorns cancer brain tumors before sin therefore those layers of fossils have to be explained after sin hey the bible says there was a global flood if there really was you'd expect to find billions of dead things buried in rock layers laid down by water all over the earth and andrew has been talking about that on the weekend dr andrew snelling he'll be talking about that again tonight as we do our final sessions here so i don't want to get into that in detail this morning and you see here's the bottom line with all of this the bottom line is this there's been a change in our culture from building our thinking on god's word to man's word actually there are only two religions in the world go back to genesis three you trust god or you become as god you know you either trust god's word or man what wants to be his own god that's it there are only two religions it's only two foundations and you see on each of those foundations you build a different world view two world views that actually clash with each other one that says here's what's right here's what's wrong marriage one man for one woman and so on the other says no we can do anything we want yeah you know and and a lot of people today have this wrong idea that there's a neutral position oh but you know the liberals at least they say they want to allow all views no they don't they're totally intolerant of the christian view well because i have people say to me well we allow all views in regard to marriage you do yes okay my view is that you can only believe one that is it's a man and a woman well you can't have that view why not because now you're intolerant of all the other views wait a minute you're intolerant of my view but you're intolerant of my view you see the clash and see what's happening in america is this we've had generations now brought up in the church that we've handed over to the world and we've let the world cause them to doubt the history of the bible that doubt has led to unbelief they build a different world view and we see the collapse of christian morality and increasing moral relativism and i summarize it this way two castle diagrams here we have the foundation of god's word castle christianity doctrines gospel man's word secular humanism moral relativism the world has attacked god's word that's nothing new it started in genesis 3 what is new it's been a particular attack on genesis 1 to 11 in this day and age much of the church has said we don't need that part of the bible we just keep the rest but people if you don't have the whole foundation like that barn the structural collapse and then we look up here and we say oh woe is us look at all the problems in the culture gay marriage abortion i got news for you they're not the problems and we've got to stop calling them the problems they are the symptoms because the real problem is down here think about it we spent millions of dollars of money as christians in america trying to change the culture and it has not worked you know why the bible does not say go into all the world and change the culture it says go into all the world and preach the gospel and make disciples because here's something we need to understand as a man thinks in his heart so is he it's hearts and minds that change the culture what's happened is we've handed the hearts and minds of generations of our kids over to the world and said you teach them your history and all the rest of it we'll tell them about jesus but you see they changed their whole world view from the foundation up can you imagine what would happen if we raised up generations of kids who knew what they believe knew why they believe what they do could stand on the authority of the word of god answer the skeptical questions out there preach with authority because they believe the authority from from which it comes man you would change the world and people that's what we need to be doing that's my challenge to us now you know before we close one of the most important parts of our ministry is to equip you the resources that we have because so many parents today we're so we're so indoctrinated by the world we're so intimidated by the secular scientists or by the smithsonians or whatever it is that we do need help and the lord has raised up all sorts of people across the world he's raised up scientists theologians and answers and genesis to help us to research to be able to give you those answers for the genesis three attack today i encourage you to use our website answers and genesis.org and then when we come out here we we bring what i call our basic apologetics resources and there's books and dvds and my book the lie evolution really that's really the textbook of our ministry it was first published in 1987 and i revised it last year with an expanded edition it really goes through what i did this morning in much more detail it's really the message of this morning in much more detail these are the three biggest selling creation apologetics books in the world answers one two and three a hundred of the most asked questions we get we've had in the past 35 years in this day and age so it's a hundred of the genesis three three attack questions answered the book already gone i encourage every parent and every teenager to read why two-thirds young people leaving the church what we can do about in our churches and homes and the whole details of that research we have books for kids on uh helping them understand real adam really that's that's really a summary through the bible for ages 8 through 12 beautifully illustrated dinosaurs for kids again about the same age group and helping them understand that practice this afternoon i think at 4 or 4 30 or something 4 15 whatever it is uh oh i've probably got it here has it got it here yeah 4 15 i'm talking to kindergarten through grade 6 which means if moms and dads will come along they'll understand it uh isn't that don't you like the kid session sometimes but um i'm talking to them about dinosaurs and really the whole bible uh books like a is for adam and i mentioned before years for non-essential help to lead young kids to christ in in very special ways that's for like preschool kindergarten grade one two and then apologetics books and other bibles too i'm talking on this tonight one race one blood there's only one race skin color we'll even cover issues like what about interracial marriage by the way if there's only one race how can you have interracial marriage think about that one and we're going to talk about uh all sorts of things tonight with myself and dr snelling what about the death and suffering issue how to how do you explain all the people groups around the world going back to the tarot babel and all sorts of dvds uh that we have out there and uh here's what we normally do when we're out in a church like this we normally uh give you these specials where you can get all sorts of combinations or get it even an instant library and it's just super super prices now i have some good news and i have some bad news okay the good news is that we bought a whole range of those materials for you the bad news is you weren't here in the conference you sort of missed out because they're just about all gone okay so what we what we're doing is this number one we're doing this for you if you want to go online and order any of those any anything off our website within the next one week and we're doing this for you people here there's the code aigva you'll get 20 off everything free shipping of everything you order on the website for one week okay that's to make up for the fact that we ran out the other thing is if you actually go out to where the we still have some there not many but we have photocopies of um the covers of most of the materials and if you want to take those up to uh the people there we'll just and pay for them now we'll back order them and we'll ship them to you as soon as we get back tomorrow okay and uh that way you can get them for those special prices also encourage everyone to get the answers magazine nothing else like it in the world it's an incredible family magazine that you can get and to keep you up to date on these things and then i i want to finish just by a challenge and hand over to the pastor and challenges this you know you know when noah built the ark the animals went on board and the bible says that um that the ark was fully loaded and noah's family was on board eight people and then it stood for seven days before god shut the door you know the ark is really a picture of jesus in many ways because the flood was a judgment because of sin and the ark was an ark of salvation you know god's son stepped into history to be jesus christ the god man who said i'm the door by me if any man enter in he'll be saved do you realize that our obligation as parents is to do what we can to get our kids to the door of the ark and people have a challenge for us the world is trying to drag your kids away from the door of the ark that's what's happening to drag your kids away and you know what in many ways we've let we've let it happen and i want to challenge us this morning to make a commitment before the lord that we're going to stop that and we're going to do what we can to get our kids and our neighbors and friends to the door of the ark we can't push them through of course it's god who takes them through but we can get them to that door and of course you can only do that if you're in the ark i pray that every one of you in this room can say that you put your trust and faith in the lord jesus christ who died on the cross was raised from the dead pay the penalty for your sin and then you'll save for eternity because you know what's going to happen one day see that woke you up didn't it what's going to happen is that door is going to shut as it did for noah's day and then the final judgment i just pray i just pray that for all of us here that while that door is open we're doing our best to get our kids to the door of the ark and stop the world dragging them away there's my challenge to us and i'll hand over to the pastor to close
