Sermon Transcription
Well, I thank the Lord this evening that this is the eleventh night that I've been preaching the gospel, and it's wonderful to serve the Lord. I've had the privilege of preaching now for thirty-one years, and it's a privilege and an honor to serve the Lord. And I just want to read one verse from Genesis chapter three and verse twenty-one, unto Adam also and to his wife, that the Lord God may coat your skins and clothe them. Adam and Eve, they were given the responsibility to look after the garden where they were put. It was an awesome responsibility, and God trusted them. He put everything into their hands to carry out that responsibility. But the day came that the enemy used the serpent to deceive the woman, and he tempted her. And as a result of that temptation, Eve gave in, and that's when sin entered into the human race. Adam and Eve, they felt strange, they felt ashamed, because when they heard the voice of the Lord walking in the garden, they tried to hide themselves, just like today. People don't like the presence of the Lord. They'll do everything to try to get away from the Lord. So Adam and Eve, they were in this state, they were running and hiding from God. And the Lord called, He said, Adam, where are you? He knew exactly where Adam and Eve were, but He wanted them to come out, as He called them. And Adam and Eve, they came out from where they were hiding, and they had covered themselves with leaves, a picture of self-effort, of trying to cover ourselves with good works, good deeds. But the Bible says that our righteousness, our own righteousness, is like filthy rags. And our own righteousness will never be accepted by the Lord. And Adam and Eve, they stood in the presence of the Lord, with their heads down and ashamed, just like people who stand before the Lord someday, when they come before Him not prepared. And they'll have to give account of the way that they lived their lives. And they'll stand before the Lord empty. The righteousness they believed that they had will amount to nothing. And they'll stand before the Lord with head bowed. And God said, what is this that you have done? Then Adam, he blamed his wife, and the woman blamed the serpent. No one did not want to take personal responsibility for what happened. Just like today, the Bible says, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. There is none righteous, no, not one. That's what the Bible says about every person. Every person must take personal responsibility for their lives. Because every person will stand before God to be judged. For every one of us will give account of the way that we live our lives. So Adam and Eve, they stood guilty in the presence of the Lord. And the Lord said, Adam and Eve, you must leave the garden. You cannot stay here any longer. And Adam and Eve, they were stricken. Stricken with a feeling they never felt before. A feeling of separation. No more to fellowship with God as they once had before the fall in the garden. And they turned and walked away from the Lord. With heads bowed and hunched shoulders, sad and broken. The Lord said, wait, Adam and Eve. Did not I tell you about the seed who is coming? You're leaving my presence, but I want to leave you with hope. That a seed will come in the future. The seed that he was talking about was his son. Whom he was sent into the world. This seed who would sit with publicans and sinners. This seed would walk among the outcasts. This seed would lift up the broken. This seed would show kindness to little children who came to him. And he would pick them up and bless them. While the disciples chased them away. God said, this seed is going to come. There is hope for you, Adam and Eve. All you need to do is look to the future. When this seed would come into the world. And I'm going to demonstrate for you, Adam and Eve. What's going to take place when the seed comes. God, he took an animal. He killed it. He shed its blood. And he skinned it. And he sacrificed it on an altar. He said, this is what the seed is going to do. He's going to be put to death. His blood is going to be spilled on the cross. And God, he cut that skin in half. And he said to Adam and Eve, come here. I'm going to cover you with this skin. And he covered Adam and Eve with pieces of that skin that he cut in half. And he said, this is what's going to take place when the seed comes. Anyone who believes, puts their faith in the seed that's coming. That his righteousness will be put upon him. That's the only way we will be accepted into heaven. Is to have on the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Because he said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes unto the father but by me. And he said, I am the door. By me, if any man enters in, he shall be saved. And Paul said it well. This is a faithful saying. And worthy of all acceptation. That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Of whom I am chief. The chiefest of sinners. God can put his righteousness on that chief of sinners. And make him perfect in his presence. The chiefest of sinners in Regina. God can make righteous. If that person will put on the righteousness of Christ. And open the door of their lives to let him come in. The prophet cried, I rejoice in the God of my salvation. Who hath clothed me with the garment of salvation. And the robe of righteousness. Tonight, if you're a born again child of God. You're dressed in the robe and righteousness of Jesus. And something stirred within Adam and Eve. Hope came in to their hearts. Could this be true? That once again we could face God. That once again we could walk in fellowship with him. Because of the seed that's coming. Any man today can walk in fellowship with God. Because the seed has come. He died on the cross of Calvary for us. He gave his life on that cross. And I say this many times to people. It was not the power of the Roman Empire which held him on that cross. It was not the power of Pilate's court system which held him on that cross. It was not the size of the nails driven through his hands and through his feet. Which held him on that cross. Pilate said, don't you know that I have power to crucify you or to release you. Jesus looked at Pilate and said, Pilate you have no power over me. The only power that you have is given to you from above. At one word Jesus could call 10,000 angels to come and take him off that cross. And to destroy the world once and for all. But it was this which held him on that cross. His love for people. His love for this world. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. That whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God is not slack concerning his promise. As some men count slackness. But his long suffering to us were not willing that any should perish. But that all should come to repentance. The reason a man lives to be 80 years old. Who has never received Christ into their lives. It's because of the patience and the mercy of God. Given to that person to respond to the love of God. And receive him. The mercy of God. Upon Adam and Eve. Remember the story of Abraham and Isaac. God said to Abraham, Abraham I want you to take your only son. And take him to the place I will show you. And there you sacrifice him to me. And Abraham did not question God. He went immediately. Immediately he took his son and servants. And they left and went to the place where God said to go. A sacrifice was going to be made. The son Isaac did not know who the sacrifice was. Because as they were climbing the hill. He was carrying the wood and the fire. He looked at his dad and he said, dad. Here's the wood and the fire. But where's the sacrifice? Abraham looked at his son and he said, son. God will provide himself sacrifice. Jehovah-Jireh will provide himself sacrifice. And they went to this place. Abraham did not yet see that his son was a sacrifice. Then he took his boy and he tied him. Isaac didn't question or murmur or complain. He stood still and let his dad tie him up. Just like Jesus who held his peace. When they hit him, when they mocked him. They abused him. He says he held his peace. And Abraham lifted up his boy on the altar. And he took out his knife. And all of a sudden Isaac realized who the sacrifice was. That it was him. But Jesus knew from eternity. Who would be the sacrifice for sin. For the plan was set from eternity past. That Jesus would be taken. And sacrificed on the cross of Calvary. And Abraham, he lifted up his knife. To bring it down upon his son. His faith carrying him. He trusted God. He knew that God, if God would allow him to slay his son. And burn him up as a sacrifice. That God could not lie. That somehow God would resurrect his son. Because God promised him that out of this son, Isaac. Would come a multitude of people. Who would be of the faith. Faith clan. He lifted his hand. And he was going to bring it down. All of a sudden there was a sound. A voice. Abraham. Abraham. Abraham. Don't hurt your son. I know now that you love me. Abraham brought down his knife. He laid it on the altar. He grabbed his son and hugged him. And tied him. And took him off. And while he was doing that, there was a sound. From some bushes. A sound of a male ram. Abraham looked and there it was caught. And that ram was taken. And it took the place of Isaac. Abraham brought the knife down on that ram. On the altar and slit its throat. And let the blood spill out. And he sacrificed that ram in the place of his son. A perfect picture again of what Jesus did on the cross. He was put to death. And his blood was spilled out. He let every drop flow out of his body. Just like the woman who poured ointment on his feet. She opened that ointment. And let it pour out on his feet. And she dried his feet with that precious ointment on them. She did not spare one drop for herself. She gave it all to Jesus. She was not stingy to give it all to Jesus. And Jesus himself was not stingy on that cross. To give all of his blood. Let all of his blood spill out onto the ground for the sin of the world. So why should I be stingy to give him all of my life? And why should the people of this world be stingy with their lives? Give them all their whole lives to Jesus. The rich, they invest their money into stocks and bonds. All of it. The greatest investment any man can make is to invest their soul. Give their lives all to Jesus. And there's great returns in the future. And God will say when we step into his presence. Well done. Thou good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy of the Lord. Why should you be stingy not to give Jesus your life? I said that word because people are going to see this DVD in different communities. And free people are going to see it. The gospel is going to go from these walls out there in the north. Through what Brother Greg is doing right now. Abraham was rejoicing at the sacrifice that took the place of his son. And then I turn lastly to Pilate one day. He stood Jesus on one side of him. And Barabbas on one side. There was a certain day once a year. That a prisoner was to be set free. And Pilate was going to make use of this opportunity. Because he found no fault in Jesus. And this was the way he thought that he would set him free. He said to the people. Who should I set free today? The people knew who Barabbas was. That he was a criminal. That he was guilty of the crime of insurrection. Or rising up against the government to overthrow it. And while he was doing that. He committed murder as well. Killing people. And when he was caught. He was brought before the judge. And the judge read the charges of Barabbas. And they were all on paper. And he hit the hammer down and said. Guilty as charged. Barabbas you are sentenced to die. On the cross to be crucified. That day when he said who should I set free? Pilate was hoping the people to say. Set Jesus free. But the crowd of people they responded to Pilate. And they all cried out. Let Barabbas go. And crucify Jesus. And that day Pilate could do no more. But the charges against Barabbas. They were transferred over to Jesus. We know there were three crosses that day. Two were already standing on a hill. Where two thieves were hanging. One cross still lay outside Pilate's courthouse. Which belonged to Barabbas to be crucified. But because Barabbas was set free. And the charges were transferred over to Jesus. Pilate said take him out to that cross. The soldiers took him out and they said pick up that cross. Take it to the hill of Calvary. That cross did not belong to Jesus. It belonged to Barabbas. Barabbas represented all of us. None of us in this room probably have never been guilty of murder. Or any great crime. But we've all been guilty of one great crime against God. And that's unbelief. Unbelief in His Son. Whom He sent into the world. To die for sin. And we stand guilty as charged. But the good news of the gospel is. That Jesus took our charges as well. The law screamed out. Death to Fred Evans. The law screamed out. Death to Greg Gordon. The law screamed out. Death to Bert Gennaro. But all the charges Jesus took. And we walked free. We walked free. If therefore the Son set you free. You're free indeed. And I'm a free man today. Free to serve the Lord. Free to praise the Lord. Free to rejoice in the Lord. Free to fellowship with the Lord. Because He took my place on the cross of Calvary. I don't have to struggle anymore to find my own way. Because I found the one who is the way. Jesus. The Son of the Living God. I thank the Lord today. On that same hill. Where Abraham sacrificed his son. Was the same location. Where another son was sacrificed. The Son of God, Jesus. But no one called out to the Lord, the Father. No one called out to say, stop it. But Jesus was put to death for us. And we are encouraged to heed the message today. We hear the story of Julius Caesar in history. A Roman emperor. One morning he was going to his castle. Where he worked, his palace. And a little boy came running up. He handed him a paper, sir, here, read this. Read this before you go. But Caesar said, as he put it in his belt. I'll read it later. I'll read it later. And he rode away in his chariot. To where he worked. And as he came through the door. In the shadows. Came out men. And they surrounded him. These men were assassins. And they surrounded Julius Caesar. They took out their knives. And they stabbed him. From all sides. Julius Caesar fell on the floor. His body soaked in blood. When they found him, he was dead. They looked at his belt. They found the paper that the little boy gave him. It was still in his belt. They took it out. They read it. It was a warning for him. Not to go to where he was going that morning. For there was danger there. There was danger there. But he didn't listen. He didn't read the warning. That was given to him. And as a result, he paid a price. He died. This is a warning. To every man. In it, it says, unless you repent. You shall perish in your sins. Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. This word is full of warnings. But to the people in Regina, take heed to the warnings of this book. Many have. But there's still a high percentage yet who have not opened this book. To heed the warnings in it. Instead, they laugh at it. Mock it. But I thank God this evening. That the word of God is true. That I gave heed to this warning. When I was 16 years old. I opened my heart to Jesus. I'm 60 years old now. And I thank God. That he saved my soul. And he can do the same for any person. So, Burt and Liz will sing a song. And if anyone needs prayer. I'll be glad to pray with you. Thank you.
