Bakht Singh

Bakht Singh Chabra (1903 - 2000). Indian evangelist, church planter, and Bible teacher born in Joiya, Punjab (now Pakistan), to a devout Sikh family. Educated at Punjab University, he studied agricultural engineering in England (1926-1928) and Canada (1929-1932), embracing a Western lifestyle, including smoking and drinking, while rejecting his Sikh roots by shaving his hair. Initially hostile to Christianity—once tearing a Bible apart—he converted in 1929 in Winnipeg after reading the New Testament, influenced by Christian friends John and Edith Hayward. Returning to India in 1933, he began preaching as an Anglican evangelist, later becoming independent, sparking the 1937 Martinpur revival, a pivotal movement in Indian Christianity. In 1941, after a night of prayer in Chennai, he founded Hebron Ministries, establishing over 10,000 indigenous churches modeled on New Testament principles across India and South Asia. Singh authored books like How I Got Joy Unspeakable and Full of Glory and held annual “Holy Convocations” in Madras, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Kalimpong, drawing thousands. Married to Rama Bai at age 12 in 1915, little is recorded of their personal life. His contextualized gospel, blending Indian spirituality with biblical truth, earned him the title “Elijah of the 21st Century” in Indian Christendom. Singh’s words, “I have never asked any man for anything, but the Lord is richly supplying all my needs,” reflect his faith-driven ministry. Despite Parkinson’s disease in his final decade, his legacy endures through Hebron’s global network and writings, praised by figures like Ravi Zacharias.

1 Chronicles 28 All this, St. David, the Lord made me understand, I think, by his hand upon me, in all the works of this chapter. 1 Chronicles 19 Though you came in the morning by the study in the Dombar, the purpose of your having this time is good. 2 Chronicles 20 God wants us, as his servants, to become men of his own heart. 3 Chronicles 21 Those who are willing to fulfill all his will, only then he can give us the heavenly plan, heavenly pattern by which we have been saved by him. 4 Chronicles 22 So far we have seen how, first of all, we have to make sure that we have been called by him. 5 Chronicles 23 Many of us get deceived by our human zeal and imagine that we are called for God's service. 6 Chronicles 24 Instead of many years of failure, they were never called for the Lord's service. 7 Chronicles 25 Then they are nowhere. 8 Chronicles 26 Instead of God's service, there is no service. 9 Chronicles 27 They have wasted the best year of their life in the warming here and there. 10 Chronicles 28 That is why we have to make sure, first of all, that we have heard his advice. 11 Chronicles 29 And we have to be able to prove how the Lord called us and how he accepted us for his service. 12 Chronicles 30 It does not mean that we are exceptionally, highly qualified human beings. But we do know, for certain, that the Lord has a need of us and we ought to solve an obedient cause. 11 Chronicles 30 Then we have to see how the Lord took David through all the experiences to prepare him for the call. 12 Chronicles 30 Soon after God had called him to be a king of Saul, everything went wrong against him. 12 Chronicles 30 Then he was being prepared for his service. 12 Chronicles 30 Then we saw on Saturday morning how the Lord taught him how he had to seek his face constantly for every matter, every step. 12 Chronicles 30 Then he began to inquire of the Lord again and again. 12 Chronicles 30 But when he failed to inquire, he had to bear a very heavy loss. 12 Chronicles 30 I think that is in 1 Samuel, chapter 29. 12 Chronicles 30 Now the Philistines gathered together, all their armies, their armies. Their lives were spent by a fountain in Jezreel. 13 And the Lord of the Philistines passed on by hundreds and by thousands. 14 But David and his men passed the great reward upon the Philistines. We saw in the previous occasion, whatever he did, it was by consulting God. 14 But David and his men passed the great reward upon the Philistines. Here without consulting God, he had joined the Philistines against God. 14 But David and his men passed the great reward upon the Philistines. Here without consulting God, he had joined the Philistines against God. 15 But David and his men passed the great reward upon the Philistines. 16 But David and his men passed the great reward upon the Philistines. 17 But David and his men passed the great reward upon the Philistines. 18 But David and his men passed the great reward upon the Philistines. 19 But David and his men passed the great reward upon the Philistines. 20 But David and his men passed the great reward upon the Philistines. I, as God's servant, can never use worldly weapons, worldly ways, worldly methods for God's service. And if we use them, we suffer heavy loss. And if we use them, we suffer heavy loss. At that time, David met this. He became impatient. When the Philistines were going against Saul in battle, he also joined with them. But some of the lords, as a result, he became suspicious of David. And they sent him back. And feeling much grieved, he and his men had to come back. And feeling much grieved, he and his men had to come back. When they came to Zikla, their place, they are saying, they found their sorrow. The Amalekites had invaded the place. And they found that the Amalekites were beating the Amalekites with sticks. That is 1 Samuel chapter 30. And from verse 1. The Amalekites invaded the village and burnt it. And they took away their women and kept them. And that is why they are now against Saul. And they wept so much, they had no more power left to be. Because they ate with sticks. But the loss came because they had joined the Philistines without consulting God. And that is why these days God's people are suffering heavy losses in many places. And that is why these days God's people are suffering heavy losses in many places. And these children, boys and girls, have become slaves, captives to many sinful vices. And much of money is being wasted. But again we find they were repentant and they consulted God. And God forgave them. And they were able to recover all the loss and much more. But again they began to consult God for everything. And that is 2 Samuel chapter 2. And from verse 1. And it came to pass of this, David required of the Lord saying, Shall I go up into any other cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? He said, Unto Hebron. See here, the very same lesson had to be learned by him by many painful, bitter experiences. We as Gospels have learned that lesson again and again. Now in our zeal we will be deceived many times. Now we will discover how much loss we will incur because of our failure in finding God very clearly. That's why we have to learn that lesson in a very clear way. Not in any very vague way. If we read 5.17. Therefore we need not advise but understanding what the will of God is. We remain fooled before God unless and until we learn that lesson of finding God's will. Not only occasionally, but we have to learn how to find God's perfect will every day, for every matter, every year. Sometimes we have to wait for some time. Only then we can be brought in the perfect heavenly plan of His service. First of all, there are several conditions to be fulfilled to learn the lesson of how to find God's will. Psalm 143 and verse 10 teach me to do thy will for thou art my God. Thy spirit is good. Lead me into the land of rightness. Willing to learn how to find God's will. Go with that longing to the Lord again and again. Secondly, Matthew 26 and verse 49. Last part. Never left alive will by the thought of will. Willing to die to our own will. Most of us are very, very strong-willed persons. And it takes God many years to break our strong will. Thirdly, Psalm 40 verse 8. I lied to thy will, O my God. Yea, the lie is in my heart. I lied. I lied. Willing to do God's will with great joy, not half-heartedly. To do God's will. Fourthly, Romans 12 and 2. We are to conform to this world, but be transformed by the doing of your mind. That you prove what is that good and acceptable and holy God. Not to imitate the world in all their ways. Have to be transformed every day in the world. Be transformed every day in the world. Be transformed every day in the world. Then, fifthly, Proverbs 3. And verse 5. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart. See 5. See 5. Go to Him with a strong faith. Sixthly, the very same verse. Lean not unto thy own understanding. Don't depend upon your own wisdom of never-never to find God's will. Seventhly, 6th verse. Proverbs 3.6. That we learn to seek His will at every step, in every matter. We are these seven conditions to be fulfilled. We really are anxious and desirous to find God's will. Then there are seven proofs to be sure of God's will. Then there are seven proofs to be sure of God's will. You see for yourself how they can be applied in your own case. First of all, the witness of the Holy Spirit. First of all, the witness of the Holy Spirit with our own spirit. Isaiah 30. Verse 21. And then he also said here what we have been saying. This is the way. Walk in it. When you turn right hand and when you turn left. I've just quit a fire. I've just quit a fire. A small fire. When they had gone to our flag here, the Queen of Galatia, the Queen of Britain or the Holy Spirit of God, feed the world in Asia, they would come to Mysia, they would go into Mycenae by the Spirit of the Lord. So we keep our spirits very sensitive, then the Holy Spirit will settle in our spirit. It may come like a small voice. This is the way to walk in it. That may give a very strong impression, a very strong allergy, showing to you, don't do this, don't go there. We have to wait patiently till we get that registration. Now secondly, the witness of the Word of God, Psalm 119, and verse 105, Psalm 119, verse 105, Thy Word is a lamp unto My feet and a light unto My path. Now we see on the main road some lights to guide us, and they keep on burning the whole night. We are there at 6.30. But when you have to find your way to some dark lane somewhere, you have to have your own light. And that's why we have the Word of God, for those purposes. There are certain fundamental divine principles you can never change. The Apostle Paul would never allow us to lie. He never asked you to do a thing which is against your own nature. He would never allow you to take any revenge. He would never allow you to do any harm. He would never allow you to cheat anyone. That's why I need the Word of God constantly to keep me in conformity with divine laws. On no occasion God is going to ask me to do anything against the Word of God. We have to be familiar and obedient to God's Word. Therefore our personal problems and needs, God uses the Word of God to guide us. All of us have different needs. And He may give you a fragment or a one verse or a chapter or many verses to confirm His will. That's why during our devotional time we have to be very, very patient to hear God's voice. Not only do we read our Bible in the morning for our instruction, but also for our guidance. For example, many years ago I was having my quiet time in North India. I read James 6, chapter 31 as my portion. I read the third verse. The Lord said to Jacob, return and learn from your father and your kindred and I will be with you. The Lord said to Jacob, return and learn from your father and your kindred and I will be with you. Somehow that early morning that verse stuck in my mind. As I began to meditate again and again the same verse came, return, return. Even though we had arranged a special meeting in one place, I told my companion, Lord is speaking to me to go to my father. I will come back within two or three days. You can carry on the meeting. I went to Punjab to my father's place. I had a former father who was very sick. Not to put a wrong medicine in his eyes, because the doctor had put a wrong medicine in my father's eyes. And he almost became blind. In terrible pain. And the doctor gave every hope. So when I went to my father, he got pain. When I went to my father, he was in unbearable pain. Like a child crying and crying. He said to me, my son, I knew you will come. I saw you coming and praying for me, laying your hands. You can't even pray when the doctor says, no hope, I will pray. I will pray. And he said, Lord heal him. The other man was in the same hospital. All the same tradition. My father said to me, He asked me to pray for him. He asked me to sit. The doctor said, no hope, but I am okay. He asked me to heal. So I came back. That was fine, God was there. To be very, very slow and prayerful is your daily portion. And you will find a fragment or many verses confirming his will upon the matter of the heart. Then thirdly, The witness of the fellow believers, Has a confirmation. See for example, Book of Daniel. A second chapter. From verse 17. Also, message of 18. And verse 20. The two or three are gathered together in my name. There am I in the midst of them. See if God wants it. He could have revealed that thing to Daniel by himself. But they prayed together. That is why God revealed to him the great secret. And you will find this again in God's word. Where two or three are gathered in my name. Many of us are too proud. To share our matters with other people. Sometimes we think we are too spiritual. Sometimes we cannot tell other people. That is why we miss God's message. Now we have fellow believers and God's servants to help us to find God's will. I have found that again by experience. How by praying together, we have been saved from many many mistakes. And we have to wait for many days. Till all of our minds. But you don't have to wait. To seek the prayer fellowship of God's servants. Others around you. To find God's will. You have to pray together with them. To find God's will. You don't have to forget to ask God's will. Many people make their own plans. Then they become elders. Now you can only turn the date of the marriage. After they have made their own plans themselves. Only then they want their prayer afterwards. They don't value all their prayers. The result is unhappiness in the family. Then they become again elders. Now please come and bring peace among us. Now please be very careful. Please be very careful. You are the full benefit of the prayer of your elders and shepherds. Then the fourth movement. Book of Isaiah. Chapter 32. Verse 17. Isaiah 32. And the work of righteousness shall be peace. And the effect of righteousness shall be quietness and assurance forever. It should be inward peace. Growing inward multiplying peace. It should be inward peace. It should be outward peace. This was the Gospel. Chapter 20. Verse 13. Next same day evening. First day of the week. Those who are stuck. In their deaths. Please be unto you. And You befriended not their disciples?" Verse 91, Let us hear them again freely here atтов. Whenever the Lord does come in any situation, there must be His peace. He brings peace with us when He comes to us. If He is speaking to us concerning any matter, then there must be His own peace in our hearts, like a river. Great peace and perfect peace. There are four groups. Fifthly, a very strong faith. That's the Apostle. That's chapter 21. That's the Apostle chapter 21. From the verse 10 to the verse 14, possibly. He was very sure of God's will. That gave him a very strong faith. Even though his own companion has told him, do not go to Jerusalem. Because the prophet Agabus had prophesied. He only said that man will be bound at their feet. That's all. But he never said, David, don't go to Jerusalem. There was the human affection of the friends of Paul to state him, don't go there. Even our own loved ones can prevent us sometimes from doing God's will. And we require a strong faith. As Paul is saying, what do you mean to break my heart? I am ready not to be bound only, but even to give my life. Even to die. Because he had the assurance of God's will. Not going but the whole story we know. God's purpose to him there. When he was reading the whole story, he had to go to Jerusalem. This is from the verse 27. From the verse 23. For they should by means like God, who I am in myself, saying, kill or call, thou must be brought before Caesar. Thus when you are in God's purpose of will, he gives you a strong faith. And makes you willing to pay any price in doing it. Even though there may be a path full of hardships. There are many occasions when we have to face many hardships to do God's will. But the faith gives victory. Then simply, some signs to be fulfilled. Look up Genesis. And chapter 24. From the verse 11. Look up Genesis. Chapter 24. Verse 11. Responsibly. Abraham has given him a very very difficult task. As soon as we showed him, God's angel will go before him. We were traveling and praying. Then he came by a well. Again he began to pray. O Lord God of my master Abraham. I pray thee, send me good feed this day. Behold I stand here on a well of water. Let it come to pass. Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee. I may drink. He shall say, drink. I will give thee chemicals. When I say, let down thy pitcher, I will give thee chemicals. He is not going to be deceived by any outward attraction of the girl. Neither by the family or her qualifications. To make sure of that God's choice, he put that sign. Not a very easy sign. To draw water for ten camels. You cannot do it. No, they are okay. But God will give you some signs. He can give you many many examples. Now before we came to Jehoshamma. We all liked the house. There were perfect peace among ourselves. But nobody knew that we had no money to pay rent. Not even one rupee even. The landlord was demanding deposit for two months rent. The landlord gave me many many verses as I came over here. Then I prayed. Lord, if this is thy choice of house, In the very morning you must give us that money we require. Without anybody knowing it. Before we go to the landlord, money must come in. And in a serious way, the very same amount came with the two of us. That's how God confirmed that this was his choice for us. Like that, God can give you many many signs. Then finally, He will do that on the 13th. And on the 21st. He will on the 13th. On the 21st. Make you perfect in every good work. Do His will. Working in the wealthy side. To your side. Home be glory forever and ever. Amen. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now you go on praying. Now Lord, I accept this thought in my heart now. May thy name be highly and fully and greatly magnified to it. May thy name be highly and fully and greatly magnified to it. He has a simple seven chests. As a confirmation of his perfect will. Less than in one month, one year, ten years, thirty-five, forty of you. But our mission will be Entirely different by learning that lesson. And maybe Lord is taking you through some of these situations. Very very painful for the very same purpose. And maybe Lord help us. Loving Heavenly Father. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Human limitation is given by the Lord. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are Thy forgiveness for not learning how to find Thy will earlier. That's why we have made many mistakes and suffered heavy losses. Mother, thank Thee for Thy grace and compassion available to forgive us. Now we say in the words of Psalm 143 and verse 10, Please be Thy will, O God. May that be our daily experience. With great delight, may we survive Him and save the world of some 44 states. I delight to have You, O God, in my heart. May this Dharma Sastra be with you and may it always be with Thy mind. May the Lord help us to find Thy will in every small matter, every day. And may we have no plans. We pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now after Him, able to keep us from falling and present us in the presence of His glory, sitting joyfully to the only Son of our Savior, the Lord be glorified in His power, now and forevermore. Amen.
