Bakht Singh

Bakht Singh Chabra (1903 - 2000). Indian evangelist, church planter, and Bible teacher born in Joiya, Punjab (now Pakistan), to a devout Sikh family. Educated at Punjab University, he studied agricultural engineering in England (1926-1928) and Canada (1929-1932), embracing a Western lifestyle, including smoking and drinking, while rejecting his Sikh roots by shaving his hair. Initially hostile to Christianity—once tearing a Bible apart—he converted in 1929 in Winnipeg after reading the New Testament, influenced by Christian friends John and Edith Hayward. Returning to India in 1933, he began preaching as an Anglican evangelist, later becoming independent, sparking the 1937 Martinpur revival, a pivotal movement in Indian Christianity. In 1941, after a night of prayer in Chennai, he founded Hebron Ministries, establishing over 10,000 indigenous churches modeled on New Testament principles across India and South Asia. Singh authored books like How I Got Joy Unspeakable and Full of Glory and held annual “Holy Convocations” in Madras, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Kalimpong, drawing thousands. Married to Rama Bai at age 12 in 1915, little is recorded of their personal life. His contextualized gospel, blending Indian spirituality with biblical truth, earned him the title “Elijah of the 21st Century” in Indian Christendom. Singh’s words, “I have never asked any man for anything, but the Lord is richly supplying all my needs,” reflect his faith-driven ministry. Despite Parkinson’s disease in his final decade, his legacy endures through Hebron’s global network and writings, praised by figures like Ravi Zacharias.

This cassette contains message on the headship of the Lord Jesus Christ by the Lord's servant Brother Bhagat Singh, delivered during the special meetings held at Hebron, Hyderabad on the evening of 12th June 1966. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Rajgumun, that priest, a prophet's son, had uncovered. Sandeep's son had, but not even all one as he was shaven. So, when we men uncovered our head in a meeting, we acknowledge that our Lord, our head. In some countries, when they see their king pass by, they take off the hat. That's how they salute him. You find everybody is giving honor that way. Ladies won't do that way. Only men. By taking the hat off, they honor the king, or the president. In India, they may do this way. Or they may bow down. The thought is, we do honor those who are our head. So, when we uncover our head in a meeting, we acknowledge, we don't go to any man's place. We are going in the place of God. Lord is with you. So, we honor him. That's why ladies by uncovering, men by uncovering, they honor him. Now, when you come inside the meeting with head covered, all will be ashamed. Why did he come with the hat on? But in many cases, he is fine with that. Ladies won't cover their head. They become so happy, so proud, so indifferent, so blind. It's only if you have the knowledge in Andhra. It took us more than 10 minutes to ask the government to cover their head. They were so proud. They felt ashamed to cover their head. And the government got a privilege to honor your savior. Similarly, when you go home, let the man also take his place. But in many cases, wife isn't talking and husband is sleeping. Husband only is sleeping, that's all. Same is finance. The whole finance is in hand of the wife. And there is no harm in keeping money with the wife. But when you have to beg also for money, you are unscrupulous. There are so many husbands. They bring all their salary to the wife's hands. That is the best way to keep peace. That is the best way to keep order. And now we are hitting the whole thing. Supposing the husband keeps back some money, the wife finds out. She starts filling the pocket of the husband. How do you gather money? How do you keep the money? She doesn't have the whole thing. Then it creates a storm again. It's not God's order. The wife can keep the money. But she can't control it. They are not made the finance ministers. If I have many homes, how do you change? So only when the wife is happy, then the husband can buy a shirt or a trouser. But when she wants something, she buys it immediately. It's not God's order. If you want the power, Lord Jesus Christ, then please recognize the headship, Lord Jesus Christ. So we say, Lord is the head of the family. Same way, the husband is the head of the family. And the wife and children must respect him, obey him and be subject to him. And when they disagree on any matter, they can pray together and find God's will. But the order cannot be changed. And wherever the order has been changed, you find a strife in the family and jealousy and quarrel all the time. And the money is spent. And many homes, you know, plenty of money, but still investment. But one thing, wife has got it, not the brain they have got. They are not going to buy tomatoes and onions and tomatoes. You can give them that money for that purpose. You go and buy mutton and onion and tomatoes. You can set up for that portion. But for the house and other bills, you are responsible. You be a man. Don't be so coward. And remain like a henpecked husband. And that's where you find many home disorders. You learn the term unruly after birth. God's will is true. Ephesians 5, verse 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church. He is the savior of the body. That is the third headship of Lord Jesus Christ. He is the head of the local assembly, local church. Just as the wife has to keep herself subject to her husband and obey him in all things, Just as the wife has to keep herself subject to her husband and obey him in all things, For the healthy living church or family, We as elders must keep ourselves in the Lord's protection. Rather than governing the God people, we have to be in the Lord's protection. I see in 1 Peter 5, 1 Peter 5, from verse 2 and 3, Read the flock of God which is among you, taking you over to the side of, not by constraint, but willingly. As you look up, have in mind, Neither as if the Lord or God had his being a supple of the flock. So the elders have to be under the Lordship of Lord Jesus Christ. All the church matters and all the monasteries and activities must be planned and decided by praying together and finding the Lord's will. We have become very busy in our responsibilities. We haven't got enough time to pray and find God's plan for the weekly ministry and other ministry. So without finding God's plan, many begin to make plans for the ministry and service. And that's why you find in many assemblies, many churches, barrenness be there. Because the Lordship of Lord Jesus is not acknowledged. We are the only ones who rule and govern the people. And without praying together, they go on making plans. And how can they be blessing us? So we believe from the heart. Lord Jesus is the head. We must bow to him and come to him. For our weekly ministry and other ministry. So in a practical way, the headship of the Lord starts in a church life. Then there will be oneness and unity and love and sympathy and fellowship. After that there will be strife and partiality and partition. In the 54th week, on the 18th of January, and he will be the head of the body in the church. He will be the beginning. First born from the head. Now I think he might have the preeminence. Be the father in him, to all who put at work. Not only he is the head of the local church. Also he is the head of the church. Lord Jesus Church Universal. He is one head. And we have to preserve the oneness in the body of Lord Jesus Christ. And there can't be any schism, any division in the body of Lord Jesus Christ. Now we find in almost all part of the world, through name they are divided. We never have used three big weapons to divide God's people. Sometime with the weapon of the name. See 1 Corinthians 20 and chapter 1. Chapter 1 1 Corinthians. Verse 13. Verse 13. See they were divided because of the name. Some of them will be called by the name of Paul, Apollo or Cephas or Christ. Some of them will be called by the name of Paul. Some of them will be called by the name of Cephas. Some of them will be called by the name of Christ. Similarly some were divided through doctrine. Either circumcision or the doctrine. And see also in Galatians. And chapter 6. And verse 15. By the tragedy that circumcision represents not a circumcision but a new creature. So many were divided through doctrine and teaching. Other were divided because of the community or caste. Other were divided because of the community or caste. Galatians 3. 28. So we have to maintain the oneness in the body, logic, style. Then we settle where the enemy comes in. So some are divided because of the name. Now there are more than 700 names among the Christians in many parts of the world. And also among the believers they can be divided. By the caste and the creed and the wealth and the position of education. Like Madiga and Bala. Or Kumti and Reddy. Or white and black. Or Jewish and non-Jewish. Andhra, Tamil Nadu, North and South. Asian, poor, high and low. There are so many ways. But logic has a chance. And he loves all equally. So we have to maintain that one day when we go. If you wish to be identified with any activity of any kind, then courage will be among our people. Then by that oneness and unity we have the power, logic, style. So then we come under the headship. We have the motor. Of all the believers. He loves all equally. How can we be God-awful enemies to serious other people? Because the truth has yet to be maintained. And make every attempt, every effort to eliminate the causes of division and names on the table. So we simply please. Colossians 2nd chapter. Colossians 2nd chapter. And we are complete in him. Who is the head of all prosperity and power. That is truth-headship, logic style. Head of all prosperity and power. And we are complete in him. Matthew was reminded again before worship time. The Lord himself is our righteousness. It is not our Bible knowledge, not our what we do and say that is in the collections. But again and again in a subtle way we begin to take pride in our own knowledge. Even though you may know the whole of the Bible by heart. There is no proof we are righteous. Similarly you may do much for God day and night. And he is sanctified. This man is very righteous. Because he is living a simple life. Sleeping upon the floor, eating nothing. None of these things can make us righteous. We are complete in him. To make us righteous our Lord has to confound and defeat and put to shame all the heavenly power. To make us righteous our Lord has to confound and defeat and put to shame all the heavenly power. No power can condemn us. All these powers put to shame. It was in the same chapter. Like the second chapter. Verse 15. Having spoiled prosperity and power he made a show of trans-premium ultimate. And thus whatever you may do for Lord Jesus Christ. And whatever time you may spend in prayer and service. How much money you may spend in God service. We can never regard that as righteousness. Lord himself the living person is my righteousness. We are complete in him. Who is the head above prosperity and power. And that is why whenever we commit anything wrong. We are forgiven straight away. We become restless because you are saying you are forgiven. And our Lord will remain law abiding. There is nothing stopping us. We are right in him by service. He himself is my fullness. I am allowed to know him more and more. As you begin to glory in that righteousness. You become more righteous. And whatever you do thank God for the grace given you to do it. And whatever you do thank God for the grace given you to do it. That is the first question. But grace of God I am what I am. The grace of God showed upon me. And when I did not pray labor. More upon me than they all. Yet not I. The grace of God is with me. We count everything. We are so depending upon him. Then why take pride in whatever you are doing for him. That will not make me righteous. But my Lord himself is my righteousness. And through him I can rebuke and confound all the power darkness. Because the power of darkness will try to bring it down in your mind. God has not yet forgiven you. He is still punishing you. He does not love you. He will never use you. All these thoughts of self condemnation become miserable. My Lord is my righteousness. And I will be glory in that. We welcome all the remedy worship. I will be swiftly pleased. Thanks of the four. Because eleven. Four eleven. This is the stone. Which was set and not a new builder. It will become the head of the corner. Now obviously this is the head of the corner. Now the whole building has to be governed by that. So those who are building the stone building. First of all they prepare the corner stone. Then the shape of the corner stone is governed by the corner stone. So after much calculation they find out the dimension of the corner stone. They come up with a plan and prepare the corner stone. Then the time over. They have to stone the head of the corner stone. Then they have to do the same for the rest of the stone. Use the rejected Lord your side. Now he has the corner built. He build the two sides. Now when you come with heavenly plan. to build the church of God. Never receive God's power. You are chosen by God for that purpose. To build that heavenly found building.
