Logos Ii Toward the Launching
George Verwer

George Verwer (1938 - 2023). American evangelist and founder of Operation Mobilisation (OM), born in Ramsey, New Jersey, to Dutch immigrant parents. At 14, Dorothea Clapp gave him a Gospel of John and prayed for his conversion, which occurred at 16 during a 1955 Billy Graham rally in New York. As student council president, he distributed 1,000 Gospels, leading 200 classmates to faith. In 1957, while at Maryville College, he and two friends sold possessions to fund a Mexico mission trip, distributing 20,000 Spanish tracts. At Moody Bible Institute, he met Drena Knecht, marrying her in 1960; they had three children. In 1961, after smuggling Bibles into the USSR and being deported, he founded OM in Spain, growing it to 6,100 workers across 110 nations by 2003, with ships like Logos distributing 70 million Scriptures. Verwer authored books like Out of the Comfort Zone, spoke globally, and pioneered short-term missions. He led OM until 2003, then focused on special projects in England. His world-map jacket and inflatable globe symbolized his passion for unreached peoples.

Sermon Summary
The video discusses the importance of using video material in spreading the word of God. It highlights the fact that while there is a video update from Lagos, there is no audio update, which is still preferred by many people who listen while driving or doing other activities. The speaker expresses the hope of soon having an audio update from Lagos as well. The video also mentions the existence of old film strips about Lagos and the possibility of converting them into video format for historical purposes.
Sermon Transcription
Just a couple of days ago we had an important board meeting to talk about Lagos II. It's the board that is officially the overseers of that ministry. Dale Roton was there, David Greenlee, and it was a very, very important time as we sensed a unity to put the March 20th date for sailing somewhat as much as we can, considering unpredictable factors, into cement. We made one long phone call to Mike Pointer on how we need to pray for him as he carries such a huge load in the ship ministry on the technical side. The captain also, Tom Dyer, felt that March 20th was realistic, as well as the chief engineer, Dave Thomas, and many others. There have been delays, we're not going to go into detail concerning that, but we feel this is a good time for us to again unite, as we did when the ship Lagos went on the rocks. We united as a movement in prayer and in many other ways, and of course in varying degrees we have all tried to press on ever since to see Lagos II become a reality. I think with OM having so many visions and so many strategies, it's harder and harder to muster up a lot of effort, energy, and prayer for any one strategy. Over the past couple of months, here in Brownlee and Forest Hill, we especially have been trying to emphasize India, to see the Hyderabad Center become a reality. God has answered prayer, we have at least been able to pay for the land and the one building that was already on it. We have a long way to go, and we will still be continuing to emphasize that. And we will, of course, have to continue to simultaneously emphasize the thrust into Eastern Europe, which is so important at this time, the Muslim push, Love Europe, Latin America, all the other things that God has put us into. In wanting to share this burden and vision that God has put upon our hearts, I wanted to read a scripture that is very familiar to all of us, so you probably don't need to turn to it. The final words of the Lord Jesus Christ before he ascended into heaven. But ye shall receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me, both in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Quite a few of you have heard the heart cry concerning the year 2000. And it is exciting to see so many mission agencies, so many missionary fellowships and churches that are getting this vision to see this extra push toward the year 2000. There are different goals as to what should be accomplished by the year 2000. Mine, personally, perhaps isn't as great as some, but it's this goal that I've had almost all of my Christian life, that everybody in the world would at least have the chance to hear or to read the gospel of the Lord Jesus through a tract, through a New Testament, through a videotape, a radio broadcast, whatever. Now, for some that's not enough. They want to see a people's group in every... They want to see a church in every people's group by the year 2000. And I'm wrestling with that. I'm certainly praying for the faith to believe that. When I see a hundred million Muslims in India where the church doesn't yet exist, I find my prayers sort of choke a bit as they come out, if I'm realistic. And God wants us to pray in line with our obedience. We cannot pray for a hundred million Muslims in India and not do something about seeing those people reached. And there are many, many parts of the world where, if we're honest, it looks very black as far as ever seeing this vision, especially when we consider the state of the church and the lack of vision among many of God's people. Often we are in fellowship with people who do have a vision, churches that are doing something, and through that we can get a little bit deceived because the majority of people are not in this camp. And this is one of the many, many reasons I believe God has raised up the ship ministry. It's a ministry that has for 20 years jolted people into action for God. Let's face it, when the average OM team goes into town, most people do not go out to listen to them. And we had that experience for 10-15 years before we ever had any ships. But when Lagos came into town, the people came, sometimes we had to turn them away, we even had to have a system of tickets to try to control the number of people. In no year in my life did I preach so much as the years that I lived on Lagos. Rather than having to run hundreds of miles back and forth to meetings, they came to us. It was an unusual year with sometimes seven meetings even in one day. As we pray for Lagos II, let's remember the huge responsibility we have toward Doulos. Doulos is a bigger ship, she's a more complicated ship, she's much older, and we will have to be doing a lot in prayer, giving, and mobilizing to keep Doulos going. Right now she's in New Guinea. I've been trying to follow her closely as she's had a phenomenal time there in the Pacific. That's going to create some interesting challenges as many Pacific islands now want OM on their island and they want to send out workers from their island. That's all wonderful, especially for those who are naive and don't know what it is to count the cost just for OM to go one more week when it's this big with this kind of financial pressure. Sometimes I think after we bought Lagos II and we saw the huge task and the devil hit us with a few strong attacks, we sometimes wondered what we were in. And it has been a great battle over these past two years. Let's just remind ourselves of what Lagos II ministry is about. Often people ask, what does actually the ship do? And I think it's so important to understand, even those of us familiar with the ministry, that Lagos II is a pluralistic spiritual invasion. In other words, it's not one ministry. We would not have this ship if it were just book exhibitions. I believe that is one of the most significant aspects of ship ministry, both the educational and the Christian books. Also, in some years, a third of the income to keep the ministry going can come in from those books. So that's a tent-making project. Often the educational books and the overall cultural aspect, international aspect of the ministry, opens doors into countries and situations that are just phenomenal. What are some of the other ministries? The conference ministry, absolutely basic. In fact, without those conferences on board, again, I'm not sure it would be worth it. Thousands of people in each port come to conferences. Some of them are all day, some are two days, some are a few hours, dealing with everything from how to deal with cults and extremism to how to handle your marriage. It's not just a matter of us coming in with our speakers and preachers. This is lined up in advance, and people, ministers of the gospel from the very countries we are visiting, supply some of the leadership in order to carry on that ministry. Evangelism, of course, is in the lifeblood of the ship ministry. People coming on the ship receive the Word of God. Now in Lagos, too, there'll be a special lounge, a major feature, where after the exhibition people can go to watch a video or a film. There's a coffee bar where there can be personal evangelism going on. At the same time, teams are out in the streets, depending on what country it is, with sketchboards, preaching and presenting the gospel. Other teams are out in the inland of a country. It's not just in the port, but by different means of travel they go inland, and all kinds of things are happening at the same time. Lagos, too, and ship ministry is a ministry of renewal. I think we're often hesitant to speak about this, because the last thing we want is to go and give any idea that we are somehow God's instrument for renewal. The fact is, we need renewal. But God uses sinners saved by grace, learning about renewal, experiencing renewal, or whatever you want to call it, to bring other people to that same place. What is that place? I don't believe it's a place of boasting, where we say, I am now renewed. I believe it's a sinner's place, where we finally learn how to bend and break before the cross, in repentance and brokenness. And sometimes I feel the ship ministry would be worth it if all we did was distribute New Testaments, Calvary Road, and a few other powerful books that the Holy Spirit has used all over the world. I think of the prospects of Latin America, the fact that for the number of Christians in Latin America, and many of them are baby Christians, many of them are untaught, I have been told, by Latin Americans, and yet we have all of these powerful Spanish books. The distribution of Spanish books in comparison to the population of believers who speak Spanish is one of the most depressing statistics that could be released. In fact, a leader in this field told me if it wasn't for books in Spanish they sell in the United States, and that is a mission field, Spanish-speaking people in the United States, a lot of these books can never be published. We need to pray for a breakthrough in the Latin American situation, as Lagostube plans to go there, that believers would see the importance of growing strong in God and the place of powerful Christian literature in that. So one of the most exciting ministries, and it has many, many different aspects, from perhaps having a time of prayer with a captain, that's always a special experience for visitors, to maybe hearing the testimonies of a Lagos team, or going to an international night, and hearing something of the reality that there is in Jesus Christ. Many of you have read Paul Billheimer's book, Love Covers, and you know that one of our great burdens and great visions in OM and in the ship ministry is to build unity among God's people. Now this ship is not some great ecumenical project. Our whole ministry is based on truth and love. But we believe it is important for Christians to be speaking to one another. How many of you feel it's good for Christians to speak to one another? I believe it's good for husbands to speak with wives. How many believe it's good for husbands to speak with wives? I think we can get 100% support on that. Well, we are the body of Christ. We are the body of Christ. We should be speaking to one another. And sometimes through the ship ministry, believers in the same port for the first time in their life speak to someone. I remember in the early days sailing into a port where a church had split, where they had actually been in physical contact with one another, whatever you want to call that, fighting, I believe. And both groups came to Lagos. And there was some degree of reconciliation. I could go on and on about the ministry of the ship. I think for many of you hearing this tape, I don't need to do that. There's a whole book, Lagos, story. And in some ways, the ship ministry already has tremendous interest and attention compared to some of the smaller aspects of the work. And you can be sure, despite this special campaign, we will not be, by God's grace, neglecting the smaller aspects of the work. In fact, in Germany, where they just released a huge mailing for Lagos 2, we have decided not to use this special letter I've just written, but another letter which I've been working on that is going to point out to our German prayer partners some of the neglected fields in OM that actually owe the ship money because their survival has been linked with being able to use some of it last year, and they want to pay it back. And we want to see those smaller fields. There may even be a partial list of them in this special letter in Germany. We want to see those smaller fields increasing their income so that they can pay back money they owe and move on with their task. Now, sometimes when I get a burden on my heart, I like to put it in the form of numbers. Some of you have read seven major emphases. Some of you have heard my tape, Seven Major Messes in Operation Mobilization. This one is 15-point strategy to help Lagos 2 sail on March 20th. If it sails on March 21st at 1 in the morning, I'm not going to get too upset. I wanted to sail with the ship, but now I have to be in Chicagoland around that date, so it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to sail. The ship will sail to Belfast for a very special program. I hope to be involved in that program when I return from the States. Line-up is already taking place there and over in Glasgow and other ports right here in England, including London. A ship has to have deadlines. I mean, with all of our discussion about, well, we can postpone it if the weather is bad, and we can postpone it if this is wrong and that is wrong, and we are very sensitive to the weather, I can assure you. But we have got to set deadlines. And that increases the pressure. We don't want pressure, but people of the world have this pressure. Normal shipping companies have this pressure. We may have a little less than them. But we need to set deadlines, and so we have by faith. And here are 15 ways that you and I can do these things. And I talked to Dave Hicks on the phone who saw this outline that I'm sharing with you, and he said, well, I think we can do at least a few of these things. My vision isn't that every O-Emmer is going to do 15 spiritual and practical gymnastics for the sake of Lagos too. You have to take what you can and leave the rest. And this message is for O-Emmers. If prayer partners and friends hear this, because it's for them as well, that's fine. And we hope they will understand how much they can do, how much they are already doing to bring this to pass. But we feel that as we on O-Emmer take some new special united steps, that that will start a snowball effect. We haven't had much snow this winter over here. But that will start a snowball effect. I don't know what people do from the Congo who are listening to this tape and don't understand what I'm talking about, but no doubt someone will be able to explain that to them. We always have these semantic and linguistic problems when we speak to such an international body around the world. I was wondering what the people in Australia do with Charles Swindoll's book about winter. The whole book is based around winter and snow and freezing and cold and harsh weather. Anyway, that's a separate issue. Number one, mobilize our own people in O-Emmer around the world through memos, letters and tapes. All of us can do a little to just let people know. A lot of people sometimes even lack the most basic information. So we're going to be sending out a lot of letters. We know that God uses letters from the response we get from those letters. Memos have gone out and will continue to go out. And some cassette tapes like this very tape. Number two, we want to renew the challenge to our own prayer partners with a special letter, maybe more than one letter. I've already written a particular letter that's going out around the world, and we've heard that in some places like Australia and it's already at the printer. We hope this, in fact, will lead to the people who receive it contacting others, photocopying the letter, sharing it with others, reading it in prayer meetings. In a sense, gossiping this news even over the telephone so that there is built up a groundswell of interest and expectation because when something has been going on for two years and it's over two years that we lost Lagos, it does begin to lose its impetus. Most people would acknowledge, not everyone, that the Lagos II thrust has lost some of its impetus. If in your group, in your heart, it hasn't, fine. I'll just confess for myself that in the last six months with all the other things I have, Lagos II has lost some of its impetus. And when I see all the other needs in our land, of fields that don't get much publicity, that are not known and yet they're important ministries, especially in the last year, it's caused me actually to step back a little bit from Lagos II and I'm not even necessarily saying that's wrong, but I feel now, in my own situation, for the next month I want to make this absolute number one, next to my wife and family and worshiping God, the basics of spiritual life, I want to try to make this number one and see this ship sailing on March 20th and into her ministry of reaching, literally, we believe in the next few years, millions, yea, hopefully tens of millions of people with the Word of God. One of the most important factors in all this is that we have the people. Now we always need more people, specialists, staff, welders, seamen, but we have about 180 people who are going to sail on Lagos II. I was surprised by that number. I didn't know they had that many people. God's work is firstly people. It's not buildings and ships. He uses those things. It's people. And I hope that each one of us, in the next few days, can just spend a little time thanking God for the people He has raised up, not just on the ship, the tremendous backup staff in Mosbach and every major backup office around the world where we have permanent offices now in about 40 different nations. There are some offices we're not even supposed to know about that have already been formed to carry on OM's affairs in their country. And they keep a low profile because they're not official. They're afraid we alien leaders may find out about them, fly in and close them down. That's not really how we operate. Number three, Operation Fax. F-A-X. One of my goals in the next few years is to get a fax machine that I can carry with me in the vehicle. But at present they're a little expensive. I have my cellular phone. It's sitting up here this morning. It's one of the old-fashioned ones that nobody wants. Quite cheap. The phone calls aren't so cheap. And now you can get a little fax machine and it sits there on the seat next to you in the car and you can feed in letters. I can scribble something out and feed it in there. Dale Roton can read it on the ship. This is the age of the fax machine. Probably in a few more years the fax machine will become commonplace even in many homes. And soon, maybe a few more years, it will be cheaper to send a fax than to post a letter. We're in a very, very changing world. And we want to send out a barrage of fax, F-A-X, to, for example, people like the Lagos II Committee in the United States who have done so much to help in this project. In looking at the list of the people on Lagos II Committee in the United States I noticed over half of them put their fax number on that list. So they might get something from us in the days to come. What are we simply saying? We want to get the word out in every possible way to mobilize prayer, to mobilize action. If the person we send a fax to has a few close friends who have a fax machine he can send out that information to them and mobilize prayer. We hope we can continue to do that for the ship ministry in the future. Number four, Operation Lagos II Visits. This has been going on all along but we want to encourage people who are excited about this ministry want to understand more. Perhaps they're praying about getting involved financially or in some other way and if possible we want them to go to Amsterdam. There's nothing like seeing this ship. I know some of you have not yet seen it. Hopefully you will when it comes to Great Britain. But it is quite an emotional experience for most people. To see the ship, especially if you've seen it when we first bought it and the state it was in and to see it now and to see the work and to realize most of that work was done by volunteers and OMers working for Jesus. I think that's a great testimony in our day and age especially when sometimes people insinuate that any movement of volunteers who are looking to God for their own finance who are not operating in the same structure as worldly corporations they can't really do the job right because God has enabled those people some of them are professional people working with volunteers from all over the world to do great work in rebuilding that ship and enabling it to be the kind of vessel that can be used for the ministries that God has put upon our hearts. Number five is operation telephone. In the age of the fax machine the telex and whatever else the telephone is still a great way because to talk to people you can hear their voice you can get the feel. A fax from George Borah I'm told is not quite the same as a telephone call. I prefer a phone call to hear people's voices. Yesterday I called a prayer partner in Dubai it's amazing the way God links us with people. I was only in Dubai briefly I met this person somehow he got a burden for me I don't know, I guess it was looking at my shirt he brought me three new shirts the next day and he's a businessman in the stock market I went back to his house met his wife and ever since then he's been supporting the work not in a huge way he's a man like many people in business battling for survival most people in the business world are battling for survival just like many of us not a matter of pushing buttons seeing money come out of some kind of a machine the business world the world of stocks and bonds is rough and tough and often far more pressure than we have but what a joy just to phone him so many thousands of miles away and just have a few minutes on the phone to share something of the burden something of the situation and we want to use the telephone especially people who may receive this information to phone people locally that doesn't cost much ask them to pray ask them if their church knows anything about this ministry ask them if they'd like more information we've got to get on the initiative if we're going to reach the world for Christ whether it's the year 2000 or whatever we have got to take the initiative we cannot sit back waiting for people to knock on the door at 39 Honor Oak Road to ask what the international coordinating team is doing we have got to take the message to them just as yesterday we had meetings in London Bible College and then a pastor's meeting at 534T and then a church meeting even though it was a Thursday God's given us 7 days a week let's use all of them to get the word out to spread the vision Operation Prayer Letter number 6 we're hoping and praying that every O-Emmer might be willing to put at least a paragraph in their prayer letter which is in most cases already late in going out get that prayer letter out soon and put a paragraph in there about Logos 2 that will mobilize some prayer and action 7th is Operation X O-Emmers 50,000 of them the greatest source of prayer power manpower, friendship that we have in the world now many of them have their own ministry and we are trying to help them in their ministry so it's not a matter of us just suddenly expect O-X O-Emmers to all start sending all their money in for Logos 2 they have to do that as God directs there are quite a few cases where we are trying to help them get through college, supply free books help them get a new organization started I think there must be at least a hundred new organizations over the past couple of decades that trace some of their roots back to O-M and the ship ministry but we want to see a grass roots movement especially among X-O-Emmers who worked on the ship of prayer, of action to see this come to pass number 8 is Operation Two-Thirds World what does that mean? a burden to see people in the countries that the ship has visited get more involved in this project now this has been somewhat low profile because sometimes these people get excited and they want to give money and we can't get the money out of the country so it gets a little frustrating and Dale and I have had a little discussion about this we want to see we want to see the widow's might in some of these countries that sometimes are called developing countries or poor countries or countries with currency problems because we believe those believers want the privilege of getting involved in Logos 2 they don't want to be told later on it's too late for you to have an investment in Logos 2 whether they're Chinese believers, Russian believers with their rubles or some country in Africa, Latin America or wherever how I'm going to do this or how we're going to do this with the shortness of time and the complexity I don't know but I sense I should write a special letter just for countries where they have currency difficulties and make it possible for them to give perhaps through our special project literature fund I can use their local currency to publish Oswald Sanders book on leadership in their country and in turn give the hard currency that I have for his book, which I don't have right now to give to Logos 2 but a movement our size can do a lot of things in terms of moving money from one country to the other so let's pray that no one especially where the ship has visited and that's way over 100 countries will be left out in any case, our first burden is prayer and maybe they won't be able to give but they can pray and can you find one verse that tells me the prayers of someone with money from Norway have a greater impact than the prayers of someone with no money in a village of Pakistan this ship is not an OM ship, we've acknowledged that it's the Lordship and it's God's people and it's not just God's people from Europe or from a few other countries we believe God's people around the world so we want to get that word out and I believe we're going to see some amazing things some amazing things because also some of the people in those countries have wealth we must not think of people from these countries as all being poor, that is ridiculous and if they're wise business men they often have some of that wealth in the Swiss banks in the New York banks so maybe you want to pray for Operation Swiss Banks Operation New York Banks that whatever country a person may be from if they have some finance that could be set loose for this project through prayer may the Lord grant them the faith and the grace to do something number nine is Operation Lagos Story we've already as a team given away hundreds and hundreds of copies of that book to say thank you to people to encourage people to mobilize prayer we've just given away 300 of the Spanish edition almost before it came out because in Latin America they have such a financial crisis they cannot always afford to buy all these books so we give them the books from special projects and when they sell the books they can do whatever they want with the money number ten let's pray that the Lord will use that book Jerry Davey working with me in literature production coordination around the world has a goal working closely with Dave Brown and STL to see that book go out in more languages we're involved a bit right now in a French edition we hope it will happen we're praying for Lagos Story to go into other languages it's a powerful exciting book maybe even believers in East Germany and it is in German or in the Soviet Union it's not yet in Russian would be challenged through such a story so that's another part of this forward thrust number ten is Operation Thanksgiving in the midst of all of this we want to put greater emphasis on just thanking God for what He has done thanking God for what He did 17 years through Lagos and I hope you have read the book thanking God for what He's done through Dulaz thank the Lord for what He's doing for the ship graduates who are in all kinds of ministries all over the world other new ship ministries trace some of their vision back to their time on the OM ships so Operation Thanksgiving in a sense provides the oil and the ongoing reality of heart that is needed to keep this thing going forward number eleven is Operation Widow's Might I know that especially OMers don't have much money there may be a few exceptions praise the Lord but remember when we took the offering for India how much money came right out of ICT here in Bromley and I believe even as OMers if the Lord puts it on our heart to make even a small gift of one pound you can put it in the envelope send it to the team bookkeeper mark Lagos 2 if that's all you're able to give that's the widow's might and you may discover as with the loaves and the fishes God can take that one pound and multiply it in ways that you've never dreamed and you'll be able to tell your grandchildren I've just had the announcement that I've got another one on the way things are really happening in the Verwer family you'll be able to tell your grandchild as he goes on Lagos 2 10 well a few years down the road that you helped purchase the ship now of course you wouldn't want to boast so you may want to rephrase that but I'm sure no OMer wants to be left out of having a little seed investment in Lagos 2 so I'm praying something wild that OMers even people in other fields where they have financial difficulties may get involved if they forget all these other 15 programs they may get involved in Operation Widow's Might Operation OMer's Might read the passage of scripture if you need some encouragement and I want to say to anyone listening to this challenge please don't think that the gift you want to give to God's work whether it's OM or someone else is too small most of God's work is carried forward with small gifts it's the prayer, it's the tears it's the attitude of heart that often makes the difference. Number 12 is Operation Video Audio or Audio Video whatever order you like it in. This tape is part of this 12th point in this strategy we want to make greater use of the video material it's interesting I discovered through talking to Dale on the phone the day before yesterday that though we have a video update coming out from Logos 2 which only a few people get to see no audio update has come and audio is still where a lot of people are at because they can listen in their car, they can listen as I do in the bathtub in all kinds of places I like to listen to these tapes when I'm jogging it is definitely a problem to watch a video while you're jogging. Now I know someone will come up with an answer soon something that fastens on your head with a screen in front of you. You're jogging down the road watching a Logos 2 update. I'm hoping we're going to soon have an update on audio from Logos 2 that we can circulate there's existing material even the old film strip about Logos done by Peter Kahneman and others who's in this meeting this morning. That would be tremendous to watch as almost a historical view back on those very early days we'll have to resurrect some of those old slide sets, maybe put it on to video 13 is Operation Sunday School and Children we now have a children's book we have a children's book about Logos. It's a little expensive but you can give them a bonus book with it or a free handshake but I find that one of the easiest books to sell in meetings where there are parents and children. In fact you sort of feel bad after you do it because you challenge all the children to get their mommies and daddies to buy this great book and you hold it up in front of them. I was in a meeting some time ago where all the children marched out the morning service so I marched out with them and followed them and the people in the church wondered what was going on I got them all in a separate room they were going there anyway, challenged them about this book and it was exciting, except when the parents saw the price but it's not too big a problem for most people. We want to see Sunday schools that put Logos and Logos 2 on their Sunday school program maybe taking an offering, maybe helping buy the fuel because as we think of Logos 2 we're not just talking about getting it out of Amsterdam, we're talking about keeping it going. We need to see churches Sunday schools, youth fellowships of course individuals who will make the ship ministry a part of their ongoing program. Number 14 perhaps is the most important of all, operation prayer groups. We want to see more groups formed even if there are 2 or 3 people in homes wherever it might be who will pray for OM and who will follow the ship ministry and pray for the ship. We have the international update that goes out rather quickly, twice a month and contains prayer information that can enable groups like this to stay on the cutting edge of what is taking place. And then finally, though I'm sure you will think of many other things that can be done and may your creative juices flow after you listen to this little tape. But finally, operation long term. We want to pray, and I've already just touched on this, for people and groups and churches who will get involved long term. Sending people to work on the ship. Helping to finance the fuel and other needs on a regular basis. Helping us purchase literature that often in mass distribution has to go out free of charge in the countries where we go. Can we even imagine the opportunities that face this ship with these invitations right now to the Soviet Union, East Germany, Poland. If that doesn't excite us, I don't know what will. And we need to pray that God gives us an army of people who will be long term. Also people who are in the ship ministry. Some of you listening to this tape, I'm Dulac, I'm Lagos too. If some of you don't commit yourself long term to this ship ministry, it is not going to be able to continue. Presumption is always a great method of Satan. To presume that you're not really important in this whole thing and you can drop out and do something else and it will just go on and on. That's deadly. If you leave Lagos too and you leave the ship ministry or any other ministry, you need to make sure you've got God's word. Because if you leave a ministry where the Spirit of God is using you and you haven't got God's word to do it, you're going to end up in a dead end street. And that's always a sad state of affairs. Let's pray that God will take this 15 point program as we obey, as we seek the Lord for our part to help. I don't in any way think this is the great answer to Lagos too. This is just a small part of what I believe should be done to bring this to pass. And I hope that many will catch this vision. I share this vision after speaking with Dale Roton, speaking with David Hicks, speaking with other people, being at the board meeting. This isn't something that I'm just sort of doing on my own. This is a united thrust by OM worldwide. We know many OMers are absolutely on overload in what they are doing now. And we expect them to give most of their time and effort to what they are doing. Not to this. But as much as you are able, even in one or two points, even in just spreading the word about it, sharing this tape with someone, everybody can be involved. We have enormous potential with 200,000 prayer partners and friends. Some of them, of course, very much on the periphery. But can you imagine the potential of this army of friends and people that God has given us through 30 years of ministry around the world? It will unite and will move one heart, one mind, somewhat in the way that I have outlined here. Let's pray. Our God, we thank you for this opportunity to share from our heart this burden to see Lagos II a reality in terms of her ministry. We know already there in the port of Amsterdam there has been ministry. Groups coming on board, people coming to know you. Meetings in churches, lives being changed. We haven't even spoken much of what you have done in the lives of those who have come to work on the ship. And the spiritual growth that takes place, not in the absence of struggles and problems and heartaches and misunderstandings, like that old asbestos problem, but even in the midst of those things, growth and grace, spiritual reality, biblical discernment and understanding. Lord, we pray for those on the ship right now. We pray for those leaving our team here to join the ship soon. And we ask, Lord, that we may see a mighty forward move, not just in the next month, but in the coming years, that there may be the greatest harvest of people coming to know you that perhaps we've ever experienced as a movement. And that together with all those pushing toward the year 2000, we may see the world evangelized and reached for the gospel. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
