Joshua Daniel

Joshua Daniel (1928 - 2014). Indian evangelist and president of Laymen’s Evangelical Fellowship International, born in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, to N. Daniel, a mathematics teacher turned revivalist. Saved at 15, he began preaching at 16 to students in Madras, earning a Master’s in English Literature from Madras University. Joining his father’s ministry in 1954, he led Laymen’s Evangelical Fellowship from 1963, headquartered in Chennai, growing it to hundreds of centers across India, Cyprus, Guyana, and London. Known as the “boy revivalist,” he authored Faith Is the Victory and delivered thousands of sermons, aired on TV and radio in multiple languages, focusing on salvation and revival. Married to Lily, they had three children, including John, who succeeded him. His annual retreats at Beulah Gardens drew 7,000-9,000, emphasizing prayer and holiness. Daniel’s ministry, marked by tentmaker missionaries, impacted millions despite later critiques of family-centric leadership.

I spruced up a little and had to rush back to be on time for the meeting which I had to address. People who knew London did not understand how I would do it. Where I would eat or what I would eat, there were no considerations. What kind of money I had, well, it was very little. Sometimes not even six pennies for the bus ride. That was no problem. I would walk. Listen, friends. Nowhere in the world was anything set up. I had to live in rough dwellings. What I had or what was given to me was of no account. The burden, too, of the witness was welling in my heart. And communication in those days, the aerograms used to take between six to fifteen days. I had no money for telephoning. Those were no considerations. Every other fellow has got, what is that? What do you call it? Cell phone or mobile phone. For you to babble all along the road. And what are they achieving? They are bigger babblers today than ever before. Nothing really achieved. Here, wherever Paul went, the Holy Ghost said, Paul, tighten your belt. Guard on your spiritual armor. Worse times than ever before are ahead. Don't bat an eyelid. I am with you. That was faith. What is faith today? Nothing. My dear friends, some people have gotten to call the broad way the narrow way. Some people have gotten to call the broad way the narrow way. They want the narrow way taken out of their path altogether. Give me the broad way and call it the missionary way. Give me the broad way and call it the missionary way. Everything is so false. Not at all true to God's word or to life. Not at all true to God's word or to life. When they wanted to stone me in one spot, in Manipur, I said, the work of God must be established here. There you will see some of our brothers laboring and winning souls. Because God showed me here. Build a commodious hall. I gave it to some of the local engineers. When I saw the structure, I said, this is pure, very inadequate. Pull it down. One of our brothers, a civil engineering professor, I said, dig new foundations. The local people said, this is the way we build our houses. I said, no. The wind, strong wind will blow it down. Friends, you know, to be a true witness, you need faith. You see, there is something enduring in true faith. I continue on to this day. Witnessing both to small and great. If you turn to the 22nd chapter of Acts, 22nd chapter, 15th verse, what is the word that he heard? Thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard. From the 17th verse. And it came to pass that when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed, I was in a trance. I saw him saying unto me, Make haste, get you out, quickly out of Jerusalem. For they will not receive thy testimony concerning me. And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on you.
