Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the preacher focuses on the Gospel of John and takes his time to explore its truths. He starts by referencing the story of Jesus speaking to the woman at the well in John 4. He emphasizes the importance of knowing Jesus in this world, as it is through knowing Him that others will recognize that we are sent by God. The preacher also highlights the necessity of believing and following Jesus' teachings in order to avoid eternal damnation. He concludes by emphasizing that as believers, we are meant to be fountains and rivers of eternal life, as God has placed something deep within us through the new birth.
Sermon Transcription
I would like to spend the time with you tonight in the Gospel according to John. Now, as for me, I thoroughly enjoy my readings in John's Gospel, and I want to share with you something of the wonder of what God really has already been saying to us through the ministry of the Gifts, and to move on, to let us see from the Word of God just exactly what He has for each one of us, individually. Now, it's great to know what God can do for us collectively, but it's important for you and me to see exactly what God proposes to do in you and me as individuals, so that we're not left trying to sort of fit into somebody else. This is one of the great tragedies, really, in that people are struggling to fit into other people, often, instead of knowing what God can do in them, and then when the Lord has done this, then all the rest sort of just follows as sweetly and as simply as is possible, and here, then, we're relieved of much striving, for you know that oil and water just don't mix. You may struggle to synthesize them as much as you want, and get them to become one, and things like that, but you just cannot do it, but let oil meet with oil, and it will mix, and let water meet with water, and it will become one, so much so that you won't be able to tell which is which, and this is really what God wants of every one of us, and you will know, I hope you will know in your own individual experiences in your reading, and from times we've spent together in this room, in the writings of John, how blessedly John gets to the heart of the matter, and how he seemed, from his great revelations in the Spirit, to be able to transfer in words the very deepest thoughts of the heart of God. So then, it's what must really be in each one of us. We will take it quite plainly from the statements of Jesus. I love to do that, as though, you know, we can sort of spend lots and lots of times, and epistles, and find out what Paul says, and what somebody else says, and what someone else says. It's gorgeous to have the exact words that Jesus spoke, and to know in the utter simplicity and sincerity of his heart, he is saying this thing to you, and mark it what he says is the word. Nothing can get round it, nothing can avoid it, it is it. Amen. And of course you will know that this Gospel is full of the things that Jesus says, much more than the other Gospels, in that they tell us so much of what Jesus did. They record miracles and marvellous things, very few of them in John's Gospel. But he opens up on the great things that Jesus said. By the Spirit tonight, he wants to move into our midst, and talk to us just as though we were with him on the earth in those years ago, and in a much more blessed position, because he has gone home to his Father, and the Holy Spirit has come. And seeing that he said himself that the words I speak to you are Spirit and life, then the Spirit having come, how much more shall these spoken words be real unto us. Amen. They were the utterances of his Spirit. They were Spirit words. Praise the name of the Lord. He never talked nonsense. I never saw that Jesus cracked jokes. I never saw that Jesus ever did that. He was not a comedian. Praise his name. He spoke the utter sincere truth from God. If you don't take what he says, you'll go to hell. And there's no avoiding it. If you don't believe what he says exactly, and move on what he says, you will be eternally lost. All right then, in this precious Gospel of John, and surprisingly enough, seeing that I have already mentioned that the things I am going to speak about are the things that must be in you. They must be in you. Yourself. You must know them there. I'm going to start off with something just briefly, which of course you can't do for yourself in the glorious and famous third chapter. Perhaps you'd be surprised if at some point during these days together I didn't touch on this subject. There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. The same came to Jesus by night and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God. For no man can do these miracles that thou doest except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. And you know that it's quite impossible for you to give birth to yourself. You know that when you're born, you've got to be born someone else. And this is the glorious miracle and precious truth. In this same chapter, for instance, you read in the 16th verse that God so loved the world, the whole wide world, that he gave his only begotten son. And so we can, without any reservation, go anywhere in this world. And we can tell of the love of God. His great worldwide love. He loves them all. Praise God. You can go and tell them this, and if you like, you can be a complete Arminian. But when you come in the same chapter, and this is the strange thing, you'll find this paradox all the way through the Bible, if you've got eyes and not prejudice. You will find that it's in this same chapter that you're told of that which, which is absolutely an elective, determined choice of God, that he gives birth to children. And he doesn't give birth to them by the thousand and by the million and by the world. He does it one at a time. Amen. What a truth this is, beloved, to know that you have come forth from God. That God chose in his love to send the Holy Spirit into this world, having taken Jesus out of it. That he should come upon you, this blessed Spirit, and you should know the glorious inward experience, something which at last resolves itself into your consciousness, so that you know what's taking place, the long before you knew anything about it consciously, the Holy Spirit had started to work in your case and upon you. And then you were born of God. Amen. That's selective enough. Amen. Amen. That's a marvellous thing. That isn't something so much in yourself as in God, that God begat through himself, of himself, unto himself a son. Amen. That's the sovereign grace of God. Praise his marvellous name. Amen. That's an exercise in God. That's something that God felt. That's something that God did. It's something that God knew. Amen. I wish we'd stop almost dehumanising God, if I may use that word. When children are born on earth, everybody knows about it, and there are the feelings of it, and there's the wonder of it, and there's the experience of it. And God, oh beloved, he begets children. These things we know are not the faint pictures of the things. Somehow God's got it over to our poor human estate and mind, the thing that was ever eternally real in him, that he brings forth children. Think of it. Think of it. Amen. Oh, the wonder of it all. That's something that God does. Amen. Amen. But having been born of God, having been born, you and I have to see what Jesus says, and he's the only one qualified to speak, and those who latterly born of him and taken over by the Spirit speak from him and for him. He's the only one qualified to say what goes on in the Son of God. He's the only one. You don't need theologians to tell us, or even Bible teachers, as far as that goes. You've got a Bible. You can read it. You can spend time over it. That's what I do. And you can see exactly what Jesus says. You sit there and you say, well, what shall I feel like? What should it be like to be a real true child of God? What does it really mean? Don't you ever ask yourself those questions? Or do you consider that's dangerous introspection and run out somewhere and shove your head in the sand and do the ostrich act because of fear? But to come to this blessed book, which is the publication of the true signs of the children of God, this unavoidable thing as surely beloved as it's true in heaven, even God took the trouble to write it in this book so that you should have no shock when you meet the Lord and have to be taught certain things when they're in the book. You say, well, I didn't know that. When he's put them in the book for you to read, now because of our notorious laziness, tonight we're going to take up this Gospel of John and we're going through it leisurely. I've already spent nearly 20 minutes on the introduction. And we're going to have a nice hour or so and see what God says about these great truths. Firstly, and I don't suppose that I'm saying any new things to some of you, I want you to turn with me into the fourth chapter where you will remember that Jesus is speaking to the woman of the well. She has come with her pitcher to the water and she has come to get the water which still to this day out in there they call the water of life. It's quite normal water because they've got common sense enough to know that if they haven't got any water they'll die. I mean normal water, so would you. It's really water of life to you. And so she'd come to get a drink of the water and she meets Jesus who says to her in verse 13 Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again. And you could say and again and again and again. When I get back from this meeting tonight they'll say what will you have, fizzy or milk? You see, they'll know I'm thirsty again and I should probably have a drink before I'm through tonight. You get thirsty and then you get thirsty again and you get thirsty again. But here, beloved, Jesus says Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst. Never know what thirst is. Think of that. You know what thirst is in the natural realm. And Jesus knows that you know what thirst is in the spiritual realm. Deep inward thirst. And he says that if you drink of the water that I'll give you the water that I shall give him shall be in him. Praise God. Now do you know that the water is in you? You've got to know it if you're a child of God. The child of God, when he's born of God is born with the well in him springing up unto everlasting life. Born with it. Amen. Do you know that the water's in you? Springing up in you. Now do you know that? Jesus is just giving a description of spiritual life. That's what's happening in him. You say really? Yes, that's what's happening in him. This is the way it was going on in him on the earth. That's why he said I can give it to you. Simple as that. Praise God. He said you ask of me I'll give you living water. The water that I'll give you will so live in you that it'll rise and spring and spring up unto everlasting life in you. Your everlasting life is assured and you never have any more doubts about it and you don't have to go to the experts to get prayed with after every meeting or something like that because you know it's in you. It's all springing up all the time. It isn't out there. It isn't in the book. It isn't in the piano. It isn't in the wait list. It isn't anywhere else. It's either in you or out of you. It's in you like it is in Jesus. Is it there? If it's not springing up in you then it's not there because when it's there it springs up. There you are. Take the words of Jesus. The water that I shall give him shall be in him. A well of water springing up unto everlasting life. You don't have to even go with a nice golden pitcher and shove in the well and get it out and get a drink. It's springing up. It's springing up. Hallelujah. Oh, to think that in you there's a deep living well of water profound and pure and clear and you're drinking the water that's springing up in you. You're so pure. Think of it. You say, Jesus, you're so pure. Let me drink of you. He says, if you do it's destined to make you pure so the water's springing up in you. That's what he's saying. My, I'm taking deep draughts right now. It's springing up in me. And you know, the more you talk to it it's like a volley. Spring up, oh well. The more you talk about it the more it springs up. That's right. I read it in Deuteronomy. They sang to the well, it says. Spring up, oh well. Glory be to God. That's why we nearly take off when we sing these hymns. We're singing to the well. Springs up. The life inside. Is it there? Now, I want to suggest to you that all these notions is that you get a little trickle. It's anti-biblical. It's just not true. It's rubbish. You see. That's the old system. Down she went to a well with her jug. Got a nice jugful. Back she came again. See, and people think that this is the Christian life. And I want to deny it. And every time you go to Sherbourne Road you get your pitcher full and then you come back the next week and you get it more. I want to tell you you're deceiving yourselves. Or wherever you go. Amen. It's there. It's in you. It's marvellous. It's wonderful. And I want to tell you that God so ordains that he can put you down in the midst of a desert and you'll be springing up with living water. That's what it's all about. If you've not got that in the barren desert of your home or your circumstances you haven't got the living water. You haven't got it. This is self-assertive. This is springing up. This is inside. This never stops. It springs up. It's the only way God knows to let you live. Springing up inside you. Amen. So the Lord wants us to pass on. Now let's go into the sixth chapter. And we'll see what the Lord says here. And in the sixth chapter we go from water to bread. And this is what the Scripture says. The order in the psalm. You remember the psalm. It says of the child of God that his bread shall be given him and his water shall be sure. Do you remember that? Plays the name of the Lord. Now we've had the water dealt with first. Now we're coming on to the bread. I love John. He's a simple basic sort of a chap. He doesn't get as complicated. Just bread and water. Prison diet. So you see how you can live. If you're in prison it's all the same. Doesn't make any difference. You ask Paul. He had it when he was in prison. I had it when I was. And the whole truth in the sixth chapter of John is this. Jesus is speaking. In 53 he speaks to these people and he says, Verily, verily, I say unto you, except you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. You've got to have life in you. Praise God. You've got to have life in you. You know, a man's beside himself to talk about this. How can you explain to people Jesus was beside himself. In fact, in the end, to give it to you he had to get beside himself and hang on a cross and let his blood run out beside him on the floor. Let his water gush out of him onto the floor. Under the ground. To bring you to the consciousness of the wonder of this blessed thing. That you've got to have life in you, brother and sister. Life in you. And you, this will tell you, if you don't eat his flesh and drink his blood, you haven't got that life in you. You haven't. If your spiritual life depends on meetings and somebody operating gifts and talking about the body or whatever subject you love to hear people talking about, if it depends on that, then you haven't got life. You haven't got it. It's a beautiful thing to you and a wonderful idea and you love to have it and your ears itch to hear it preached to you. But oh, to have it inside you, the life in yourself. In yourself. Dependent on nobody for this, only yourself. In this, you don't need another's prayers, you don't need another's ministry, you don't need another's book, you don't need anything. Not in this. We do in other things, but not in this. You have it in yourself. Amen. Glory be to God. It's a marvelous thing when Jesus stands and talks to a man as one individual as Jesus was one man on the earth. And he had it in himself. Desperately concerned that you should come into this experience having it right there. Where you cease to feed on your own flesh. Or on your husband's flesh or on your wife's flesh. And you're eating his flesh. And you're drinking his blood. Glory be to God. I tell you, the cross has really got to work here. Cut you off from everybody and everything else. The cross has really worked here and supplied the flesh and the blood of Jesus Christ in available form to you. So that you can eat his flesh, drink his blood. Amen. You don't have to chew anything and you don't have to pick out the bones. That may sound funny, but it's right. It's a blessed, glorious feeling on Jesus Christ. And I tell you, if you were set down in the midst of Sahara, you might not last more than four or five days in the physical, but the water would spring up in you and you'd have more food in the inner man than the abundance of the veil of Eden could supply to you. That's right. This is it. To feed on him in the midst of rottenness and vileness. In the midst of temptation. In the midst of the floods of wickedness outside. In the midst of absolute putrefaction and filth. You can sit down and eat the flesh and drink the blood of Jesus Christ. Amen. Got life in you. Life in you. Life in you. Amen. Life. If it's there, it's strong, it's vigorous. Eat his flesh and drink his blood. That's man's need. Now, this is it. It's got to be in you. God will be in you. Oh dear, I've left my Bible, I tell you. Jesus Christ isn't the Bible. Praise God. It's Him. Him. Don't you see that God refrained from pouring out the Holy Spirit upon all flesh until He had the real flesh and the real blood to bring to you? Don't you see that you might feed on Him? Oh, blessed, blessed life. To be in this experience. It's got to be in you. In you. Got to be able to walk about. Feed on the Lord. You see, this doesn't depend on sitting down at a table or set meal times, you know, like we were told this morning, one o'clock. You see, it's got to be at one o'clock. Nothing like that. All the time. You just don't have a square meal now and again. This is the glory of the inward life now in permanent communion with God. Jesus Christ accessible. Jesus Christ available. Jesus Christ in a form that you can eat Him and drink Him in the Spirit, suited to your need. Amen. When He was on earth, when He said this, how can we eat Him? He wasn't in the form that they could eat Him. How can He give us His flesh to eat? How can He? I'm really speaking to you Spirit. This is spiritual flesh and spiritual blood. This is spiritual food. If you're alive in the Spirit, you must have it. The Holy Ghost has come because God knows you can't live without it. Isn't it precious? All inside. Amen. Glory. Amen. And when you eat His flesh, and you know what you'll do, if you'll really eat His flesh, you won't reject, we won't react to fleshy situations in your own fleshy responses. You will react as His flesh would have responded in a promiscuous age. When you're drinking His blood, beloved, your blood won't boil and seethe with passions on a natural level. It will react as His blood reacted. That's what it's all about. That's the fundament of your spiritual life. It isn't in gifts. They're wonderful things. It's in Him. As we shall presently see, we're passing on. It isn't in powers. God knows the church needs them. Don't let's misunderstand this. But all above all this talk we're hearing, it's Him. Amen. That wonderful life. How do you live on this earth? How do you live? That's the thing that counts. That's the crux of the matter. Because Jesus lived as He lived, He could say what He said and He could do what He did. And isn't it a marvelous thing? Now let's go into the 7th chapter. And you will know in this 7th chapter there was a feast of the Jews and Jesus goes up in the middle of the feast and He stands in the temple and on the last day of the temple, 37, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Out of your belly. I don't know whether you like the word. I'm not apologizing for it. That's right. Out of you. Not out of Him in you. Now notice it. That's not what He said. He says, Out of you. Out of your, shall I say the belly or the heart of the inward man. If it's really living this flesh and blood life that we've been talking about in the 6th chapter. Out of you can flow the glorious rivers. Out of you man. Not out of your sort of theological setup of what it should mean. You. You. You. You. Have you got it? That's right. Out of you. The you. That you've known for this last 30, 40, 20. How many years it is? You. Out of you man. Really. What do you think of that? What do you think of that? Out of you. You. You try and turn that straight. Oh you mean Jesus didn't. No, no. That's not what He said. Don't you act to scripture. Out of you. What is flowing out of you precious Lord? You've got to have real, the proper flesh and blood for this to flow out of you. That's why you've got to eat it. That's why you've got to eat this flesh and blood. Because of the water that flows out of you. What's flowing out of you? Is it a marvellous thing? Out of yourself. You know. It's, you couldn't believe this if it wasn't true, could you? But don't hesitate to believe it when it is true. What Jesus says. In other words beloved, and this is what we're coming to. We're going to see this glorious build up of the eternal spiritual life that you should have and be enjoying. In fact the only one there is. The rest is a deception. We're going to see it building up into it's great fullness and climax as we go through this great gospel of John. Oh it's a marvellous thing. That out of the very deep vital places of you. Out of the hidden secret places of you. It's you. Because God has sold out something in you. Because you've been born again from heaven for this. The living water supply of the earth. This is what God has designed. Men and women who are fountains and rivers and flowings of eternal life. That's what God's determined for you. Oh hallelujah. What's, I'm glad God gets down to this real basic thing. I don't, and then he doesn't come up meaty mouth and namby pamby. I'm glad he talks down on the basic things that have to do with life. They're rugged and they're real. And these are the eternal things. And make no mistake when you were fashioned in the beginning by God from dust and have come down through he patterns your reproductive and giving organs upon this eternal truth. That's why in John he talks this basic way. And everything you are and can do in the natural man, woman, in public and in private should speak to you of the functioning of the true spiritual. The spiritual man. Let it talk to you. For he came, this one at last was expressed in flesh and blood that you might see and you might hear and you might know what you should be and what God has determined for you and how by his grace he will make you to be a reproduction of the Lord Jesus Christ. Out of your belly flowing. Yours. Yours. This isn't some highfaluting hypothetical idea. It's basic down to earth living. Nothing dead coming out of you. Everything living. Vital. Life giving. Praise God. God let it seep in. There's nothing unclean. There's nothing dead. There are no waste products in the spiritual life. Nothing. Everything that rises in you must pass through you. And it must run out of you. This is the life upon which you've been formed in flesh and blood. The human is an analogy of the spiritual. And God wants you to see this. He stands and cries right in the midst of it all. In the last day he gave them their final chance on that occasion. Come to me he said. Come to me. They were going through all their paraphernalia of worship. What's flowing out of your belly now Jesus? Rivers of living water. Praise his marvelous name. Glory to God. So vitally alive. So gloriously full. So vitally overflowing. Amen. Oh let's go on. This is a great, great thing. Not only must you have these things in you. But I come to the great eleventh chapter. And you know that it's the story of the raising of Lazarus from the dead. And he's expected to go down and raise Lazarus from the dead. Everybody's expecting him to do it. At least I'm sorry. Go down and stop Lazarus dying. Everybody's expecting him to do it. Except his father. He's expecting him to raise him from the dead. That's right. Praise the Lord. There are times when Jesus doesn't bother about minor things. But he deals with major things. There are times. There are times when he delights to go into the minor things as well. He can do them. Such as giving you a bit of food if you're hungry. That. Don't ask for jam and don't ask for caviar. Understand it. He doesn't teach you to live extravagantly so don't you do it. Understand Jesus. Understand the basic lessons of even a miracle. The things he's saying that are never said. The things he's meaning that are never put into words. The way he's pointing out I'm the way he said. Even though he's not referring to it. But all his miracles he did in a way. And in truth. And from that eternal life. To show you how to live. And in this 11th chapter. He goes down at last to Bethany. The house of ripe figs as we were speaking the other night. And Lazarus is quite dead. At this time. But when he decides to go. The disciples say to him in verse 8. Master. The Jews of late sought to stone thee. And goest thou thither again. They were very unripe figs that they would have stoned Jesus with. A fig before it's ripe is as hard as a stone. A green hard rock like thing. Understand. He goes down to the house of ripe figs. Now there's a moment of maturity coming. Ripeness. Hallelujah. He doesn't care about what they've done to him before. He goes down. Jesus said. Are there not 12 hours in the day? If any man walk in the day. He stumbleth not because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night. He stumbleth not because he sees the light of the other world. Oh no. That's not what it says. It says it's because. Because. Did you read it? There's no light in him. He's looking for the light of the other world. But he hasn't got light in him. He's gone. You've got to have light in you. In you. You know. When I was a boy. I used to read the scripture union portion. And we used to pray the scripture union prayer. My word is a lamp unto my feet. And a light unto my path. And we were exhorted to read the bible. To be a lamp unto our feet. The light unto our path. But you see we were brought up under the old testament. They're all old testament. All the lot of them. Nearly all of them. Jesus says. You've got to have the light in you. That's right. You see. What I mean when I say. Nearly everybody's living in the old testament. Nearly everybody. They preach it like anything. We all sit there and say. Yeah that's right. Read your portion every day. Well so you should. Don't stop at a portion. Read a book. But the whole tremendousness about it. Is that Jesus didn't teach what the writer of the 119th Psalm taught. He comes and he teaches. That you've got to have the light in you. Not in this book. Amen. You've got to have the light in you. In you. In you. I hope it's going in. All this great truth. What Jesus is saying. Do you believe what Jesus says? Do you know he never did say. Now this will surprise you. Don't get shocked at me. You won't face truth. Jesus never did say. Read the bible every day. I never wrote it. Did he? Now did you realise that? Did you realise that? Mind you it's a good thing to read the bible every day. You need to read it every night too. Let's get mixed up about this. But he knew the superstitious value. The intents of men's hearts. And the way they can get off the thing he really said. And start trusting in other things. Amen. He said you must have the light in you. They could look at him and say. But Lord you've got the light in you. Well you really mean that I've got to have the light in me. Like the light's in you. Yeah that's what I'm saying. You've not only got to have light in you. You've got to have the light in you. For it's the life that is the light of men. There you are. Quoting John 1 to you now. That's the truth. In him was life. And the life was the light of men. The life's the light of men. The life is the light of men. The life will be your light. If the life's in you it'll be all light. And then it will shine through you. Like the water that's in you springing up. Flows from you. So the light will shine out of you. Simple isn't it? You see I love old John. Nothing complicated about John. All you need is a spiritual mind. That's all you need. There's no complication. Isn't it simple? Everybody makes it difficult. Jesus never made it difficult. They all say do this, do that, do that. They'd all got light on miracles. They'd all got light on miracles. Mark, Martha and Mary got light on miracles. All kinds of people make a better book. See? They all got light on miracles. They read all the nice books. If there were any. Well after all the Old Testament had been written. There's healings there. Can't write a better book than that. The Bible can you? On all these subjects. Set for him, set for him. You see? God. Jesus. Jesus. Jesus. The light was in him. You see? This is the. Let's just go forward one chapter into the twelfth chapter. And we'll see this thing. In the twelfth chapter. He says in the thirty-fifth verse. Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while you have light. See there are lots of people who are walking in the light. That's with them. That's what they were doing. They thought they were in the light. You see? But they didn't understand the light had got to be in them. Not them just in the light. That's what they didn't understand. Well he said. John Baptist said. You were all willing for a season to rejoice in his light. You walked in his light. Now you're all walking in my light. It's a better light. It's the real light of eternity. But you're only walking in it. It's with you. But he said. You've got to have the light in you. Amen. Then you're really walking in the light. You're shedding your own light on your own pathway. Aren't you? You're walking in the light. You know where you're going. You can see when others can't. Because it's night time you see. And they're looking for the light. To walk in the light of the other world. Or the light of the other person. Or the light of the book. Or the light of a preacher. Or the light of this or that and the other. And you always see these people. They look almost as though they've got sight. But they're not. They're really groping about. And here's the man. He's got the light in him. And he just keeps walking when other people can't even see the path. They don't know where he's going. And sometimes if he preaches. They don't understand what he's preaching. And they misreport him. And they did it with Jesus because he had the light in him. Don't you see? You do see, don't you? That's why in the logic of John. Before he started talking about the light in the 11th chapter. He talked about having your eyesight given to you in the 9th chapter. It's ever so logical. It's ever so simple. You've got to be born firstly in the 3rd chapter. And then we keep on going. Now we're seeing what this life is. It's an in life. Praise God. It's not just a life in. It's an in life. Amen. And he shines. And all the disciples. They were all apostles. Do you know? They'd all cast out devils. They'd all raised. They'd all seen the dead raised. They'd all helped feed the 5,000. They'd all healed lepers. Cleansed lepers. All the lot of them. They were walking in the dark. What do you think of that? That'll explain a lot to you. Explain a lot to you. If you'll just think. Amen. Is the light in you? The light's in you. Glory to God. When everybody finds it dark. You can't see any darkness. What are people worrying about? When they don't know what to do. And can't see where to go. And are groping around. I don't know what's the matter. It's all plain to you. It's all broad daylight. It's marvellous. This is what gives a man poise. This is what gives a man assurance. This is what gives a man authority. People are looking for authority everywhere. It's this that comes in the life. They're looking for somebody to put their hands on them. And give it to them. Because of the stupid noxious ideas that are being promoted. Hallelujah. Praise his name. We're moving beloved. It's all logical. The light's in you. Praise God. You can walk in the darkness. To everybody else. But light to yourself. Amen. You say how can there be darkness and light at the same time? Well I'll ask you. How in the world seeing that we're all living on the same earth. Will it be dark here at half past ten. And be broad daylight in New Zealand. How can you have it at the same time? We're all the same individuals. We're all living on the same earth. We're all in the same clothes. Breathe the same air. Wear the same kinds of clothes more or less. Do the same things. How is it that some are in the dark and some are in the night. The light. Oh wow wow. You could explain that. That's a scientific thing. Nothing's as scientific as this. Nothing's as scientific as this. Whilst millions are in the dark. A man can be in the middle of them like I told you. A man can sit in the middle of Sahara and feed on Jesus Christ. And sit in the filth of an awful office. And feed on Jesus Christ. And pure water can run out on him. That's right. Same way. When everything's dark. Glory be to God. It's broad daylight to him. Mine too. It's come. Amen. Amen. The son of righteousness is risen brother and everything's healed. That's right. Amen. Now then. Let's go on one more step. Or at least. Let's take another step. I know we're nearly finished yet. This time into the 14th chapter. In this wonderful chapter. Jesus said some precious things. Look at it like this. He's really speaking. And. In this. Verse 18. Let's start there shall we. I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you. Amen. Yet a little while. And the world seeth me no more. But you see me. Because I will live. You shall live. Also. I want you to understand. He didn't say. You are alive. It was yet future for them. They were going to. They were still quite dead. But they. At last they'd seen him. At last they'd seen him. They hadn't seen him really. Until about this time. You're going to live. Because I live. They were still dead. And they'd cast out devils. And they healed the sick. And they cleansed the leper. And they'd been with him in his great miracle ministry. What do you think of that? It'll explain a lot to you. If you'll allow it to. Amen. And so that he goes on. He says. You shall live. At that day. That is when you're alive. When I've come to you. And you're really living. At that day. You shall know. That I am in my father. And you're in me. And I in you. Amen. He then hath my commandments. And keepeth them. He it is that loveth me. And he that loveth me. He shall be loved of my father. And I will love him. And manifest myself to him. This is the thing I really want to talk about. Here's the great next thing of this spiritual life. Jesus Christ. Manifests to you. Where? On the cross? No. In the Bible? No. On the throne? No. Where then? In me. That's right. Amen. Praise God. He says you can see me now but listen. I'm going to manifest myself to you. When you're really alive. Praise God. I'm going to manifest myself to you. They just sort of blinked and rubbed their eyes open. They began to see him for the first time in this upper room. Before he's going down. And they're only just going to have about one week of knowing they've seen him. At last. He's going this way. And there. And there. And all this that we've been talking about is going to be in there. Marvelous. And they're going to have Jesus manifest to them. As he is now in all his glory. Is that right? Am I talking to you about your life? If I'm not. I'm sorry for you. You've got to quit stalling and trying to make out that you are this and that. And you've got to come and get it. Yes. This is what it is. Wish somebody had told me this when I was some of your ages. Yeah. I wish somebody had told me this. When I discovered this, I let everything else go for it. I admit it. Oh. Praise God. I can remember the days when he just manifested himself to me. I can remember the glory. The beauty. The sweetness. The making himself known to me. On the inward parts. The display of himself. This glorious one. Unto all my alive, quick and conscious being. Vividly alive. Have you ever come alive like that? Surely this is only for special people. Yes. Like you. God so loved you. That's what it's all about. To bring you through a process of birth through his own womb. And beget you unto himself. Glory. Oh. He says that. Precious Jesus. Glory. You'll know. He says you'll know. You'll see the confidence. He says you'll know. At that day, you'll know. You won't need a chap named Lord to come and talk to you really. Except that as they're talked out in your ears, your heart can say amen. Yes. Praise the Lord. Let's ask him again. You might have thought that. That's really what it boils down to. To manifest himself to you. So glorious. So full. So wonderful. Oh, so much what I wanted. So much what I need. So much God. So much my savior. So much life itself. That's right. That's what it is. Amen. This is only eternal life I'm describing to you. It's the antipast of heaven to use a famous phrase. It is the glory of the realization of the eternal destiny. It's called predestination. You have it in your heart. It's in your life. It makes you see how shabby and rotten and wanton the world is. It makes you want to finish with a whole claptrap of it. It makes you just want to live and live and live and live. In fact, if you had your choice for six months of the year, you'd go and shut yourself up on Bailden Moor in the shack up there. Or somewhere better. And just love the Lord. Just a talk like this reminds me. Oh, it comes back gushing over me. In ways when I remember the days when I first entered this. I'd go up in our bedroom and I'd shut the door. And I'd get there before God. And I'd lie across the bed and I'd love him. And I'd open up and I'd look around. And I'd enter into realms of knowledge and things. Of personal introduction and experience that needed no man to tell me anything. As the scripture says. I was alive. I was alive. I've had no second experience from that to make me talk. What we call a baptism in the spirit. Now. So, blessing God. Amen. Manifest myself. Think of it. If he just walked in this room now. We all got down there on our knees and he just displayed himself. There. And you want me to stop talking instantly. That's right. Now that's what it is. On the inside. You're not always consciously engaged there. But you're always spiritually involved there. Is that right? That's what keeps you fresh and sweet and glorious. That's what takes the frowns off your face and the bullying out of your voice. The edge out of your tones and the nastiness and the snarls out of you. How can you snarl at Jesus manifest to you? How can you do that? It's what makes you shut your mouth and take the strokes on your back. Stop whining and complaining. Most people's prayers have a long list of complaints. They call it prayer. Prayer. Whining a moment. Speak to my husband. Speak to her. I'll do this for you. That's one long whine out of the pit inside you. Instead of a marvelous engagement with God. Praise God. It shuts your mouth and opens your heart. Let's go on. This time into the 15th chapter. This precious, precious truth. You know I am God. The true God. And my father is the husband. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh away. Blessed father. Praise God. Isn't it lovely, father? That's how Jesus trusted his father. See, you never whined and moaned. Oh, take this horrible person away. See, my father takes it away. I don't have to bother about these things. I'm just the vine. I'm growing. I'm living. Father. See, this is what. If you only understood this, beloved. If you only understood. You see. You wouldn't have to keep asking God to do this and that and the other. Your prayer life would be 95% gone. And the real prayer life would start. Amen. My father takes the branches away. My father. Let's be honest. You know, I could sit down, I could have an hour on that. Just let that soak in. I don't even bother to think. Once I've read it, I sort of let it go. But. In about six months time, it comes out as ministry. Do you understand the ways of God? If not, begin to learn them. Every branch that bear a fruit. He purged it. That it may bring forth more fruit. Now you're clean. Through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me. And I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself. Except it abide in the vine. No more can ye. Except ye abide in me. And he goes on to say. First abide in. Without me. You can do nothing. Now what this verse says. Is not what you may think it says. You may think it says. That the branch cannot bear fruit of itself. But it doesn't say that. It says the exact opposite. The branch is expected to bear fruit of itself. When it's abiding in the vine. It says it cannot bear fruit of itself. Except it abide in the vine. It has to bear fruit of itself. But not from itself. You got that? Amen. Yeah. Let us think here. Because you probably thought it says. That no branch can bear fruit of itself. That's a distinct lie. It's opposite to what Jesus said. This is what it means. When you hear people say. People don't read the Bible. They don't. They read their ideas. The whole truth about it. Is he says. You've got to bear fruit of yourself sister. Brother. That's what you've got to do. And for this. You've got to abide in the vine. That's what you've got to do. And you've got to produce the fruit. So all the Bible. Yes that's right. He's the vine. You're only a branch in him. He's the vine. He'll produce the fruit alright. But it's got to be of yourself. Amen. None of your own efforts. There aren't any efforts. If you're cut off from the vine. You're dead. So that's it. No efforts about this. Don't get mixed up. Don't try and correct me. In case somebody gets me wrong. Make sure you haven't got it wrong. You've got to bear it of yourself. Now this is the spiritual life. Of yourself. It's no good you say. Oh Jim support me. I want to bear it of you. You see. Stop your nonsense. Stop your nonsense. If you prefer Jim to Jesus. You'll go to hell. Hallelujah. So every branch. Has got to bear fruit of itself. Of yourself brother. Unaided. Just abide and abide. Father of purges. Okay. Don't worry. It's alright. Just abide and abide. Hallelujah. I know some men that can't do anything without their wives to lean on. I know wives that can't do it. Or we have to work together. Dear oh dear. Well it is work too. This is fruit bearing. This is the whole glorious thing. You produce the fruit of yourself. A marvelous thing. To see the fruit hanging on the branch. There it is. Of yourself. Not by yourself. Not from yourself. Not unto yourself. Or for yourself. But through yourself. Of yourself. Isn't this a precious thing? This is what Jesus is expecting of you. This is the spiritual life. This is what that new birth is. In it's outcome. In it's growth. In it's development. In it's purpose. In the heart of God. That's what it is. Died in me. I'm the vine. But if he's the whole vine he's saying well I'm you. You're a branch of me. That's all you are. I'm you. I'm the whole vine. I am. The whole of it. All the branches. I'm it. Praise God. That's it. That's what he's saying. And once this truth really grips your heart. That it really is Jesus in you. In yourself. It's Jesus in yourself. That now the complete takeover has happened. In your emotions. In your character. In your makeup. In your expressions. In your issuings. In your walkings. In your comings. In your goings. In your talkings. In everything. It's him. Yourself. That's it. The real self of it. About which people used to speak and say he's selfish. She's self centered. You've got to be vine centered. Amen. Abiding in the vine. That self. About which they used to say he's stubborn. She's obstinate. He's full of pride. And she's as jealous as they come. That's it. Him he's hard. She's petty. Catty. That's right. That self. Amen. She's weak. He's strong. Of that self. That. Well how can that happen? Be born again. That's right. God does that. You have and do or produce all the rest. I've been telling the tale of your spiritual life. Have I? It's told from the lips of Jesus. It's recorded in the book. It's the precious eternal truths that angels desire to look into. It's the wonder of the ages. It's the glory of eternity. This Christ in me. You've got to bear fruit of yourself with the sum total of your makeup. You have to produce fruit of God. It's got to come of you. As you abide in the vine. Yes. That's what you're here for. For the Father. Amen. Bless God. You know don't you? That grapes are the abundant life of the vine. Got so much sap it starts to push out in little skins. It's the abundant life of the vine. That's what grapes are. The fruit. You've got to produce it. Have life. Be joined to the vine. Have it abundantly for important fruit. Amen. Have a drink. That's life springing up in you. Have it abundantly. Water's flowing out of your belly. Alright? That's John. That's the Holy Ghost through John. Against the spirit of the law according to you. This is the fruit of a man's lips and of his life and of his pen. The husband that has garnered it. This book. This John. His fruit. The abundance of his own life. And he got in it. It was in him. Every scripture is life abundant. Flowing from some man. Precious isn't it? Hallelujah. What scripture flows from you? Or at least what script shall we put it that way? We'll move off the U.R.R.E. In case somebody gets bogged. What script flows from you? Oh God. This is it. I turn over. And I think probably you'll make this final. If you have to go, good night. Don't be uncomfortable. And in the 17th chapter. Couldn't finish on a better note could we? Couldn't finish better. And you remember that I said that it all moves through from that glorious new birth. To Christ. Just Christ. You remember I said that? Now here we see it. Here's Jesus. Father. Verse 24. Father. I will that they also. Not just me. They also. Whom thou hast given me. Be with me. Where I am. That they may behold my glory. Which thou hast given me. For thou lovest me. Before the foundation of the world. Oh righteous father. The world hath not known thee. But I have known thee. In the world. And these have known. That thou hast sent me. I bring something from that. That if you don't know him in this world. Nobody will know. That anybody sent you. Nobody will know. Knowledge springs from knowledge. Like water flows from water. Nobody will know that God sent you. You may put the trumpet to your lips and blow it well for yourself. But nobody will know. If you don't know him. In this world. Where the world doesn't know him. These are spiritual laws and principles coming out. In the utterances of the lips of Jesus. You've got to talk like that. Everything's got to be spiritual law. And principle. Everything. It's got to govern everything you say. You've got to come out with nice ideas. You've got to be able to utter the truth of spiritual life and principle. On this earth. God. God help us. For the words of your lips have got to be the abundance of the life of your heart. If you want abundant life. It's not only in script. It's in speech. We'll go on. And he says. These have known that thou hast sent me. And I have declared unto them thine name. Do you know what it is? The name. Father. Where does that name come from? Because he begets children. So you're back again. That's the only way you can be a father. We are right back again. We're at the beginning. I've declared unto them thine name. Listen. And we'll declare it. Praise God. You only have one message. New verse. Father. I'm going to declare it. Sonship with the father. That was his message. You read the whole of this prayer. And the outpourings of the sacred heart of Jesus. And that's all it is. One with the father. That's all it is. And let's finish up. That the love wherewith thou hast loved me. May be in them. And I. In them. That's where it finishes. It's all finished now. The next is unto the cross. He has brought his statements to an end. He finished his statements. Talking to his father. In the ears of his disciples. And I know what it's all about. I. In. In you. Not sort of inside like I might tuck this inside my shirt there now. I've got a Bible inside my shirt. It's not there. It's in you by. Not by affinity but by identity. It's in you. This Jesus in you is being identified with you. So that people can identify Jesus Christ in you and with you. That's right. That beloved is a Christian. That's all I've told you what a Christian is. The love wherewith thou hast loved me. In them. That's it. It's almost beyond believing. Of course it's beyond believing. It's that which lies beyond believing. It's the receiving. It's the actual knowledge. The love wherewith father loves Jesus. In your own self. Oh. Praise God. Praise God. And I because of this. I'm in that man's character. I'm in that man's life. I'm in that woman's responses, principles. I'm in the basic laws of her being. Christ by the spirit. I'm in her thinking. I'm in her speaking. Did Christ come and talk to me then? When you spoke to me? I'm in them. I am. It's finished. You may go on and read through the other chapters but he's brought it all to conclusion. It's what Paul says. Christ liveth in me. And the life that I now live. In the flesh. I live by the faith of the Son of God. Who loved me. And gave himself for me. Not just on the cross but through the cross. For me. The cross enabled him to bring all that manhood that he lived in the flesh. Right into the spirit. And in the spirit bring it into me. And let it out in my flesh. Amen. Now that's what it all is. So you see that when Wesley has a sea. All the struggle then is o'er. Then war and fight will cease. Israel then shall sin no more. But dwell in perfect peace. All his enemies are gone. Sin shall have him no part. See? Israel now shall dwell alone. With Jesus in his heart. That's right. That's the truth. That's the glory. I. In. That's what he gave himself to death for. Gave himself to death. To come into you. The spirit. Will resolve you into Christ. And you will be resolved then as a human being. The problems will be gone for you. Your sin will have departed. Your life will have gone. And there. He's here. Oh, I could talk to you about it all night. Are you there? Come on, let's pray. Just believe it. That it hasn't happened. There are many people. Who. You, you have to live in terrible circumstances. You have to live out in the vileness of the world. I live an artificial life. I always tell people that. That we live artificial lives. We can't help it. If God sets us aside. And calls us out of rotten factories. And filthy offices. And terrible hospitals. That's not our fault. That's God. He does it. That's entirely up to him. But we're not living out in the world. Our temptations are different from yours. Nevertheless they're real. Now, because you live in these circumstances. The devil is very persistent. He doesn't give up as easily as Christians do. He'll lie to you insistently for days. And if he thinks he's getting in, he'll do it for weeks. And if you let him, he'll bind you up in it for years. He'll lie to you insistently, persistently and consistently. And the father allows it. Because it's the only way for you to taste blood. The devil's blood. If he's got any. It came out. You see, you've got to stand when he's actually convinced you. The devil's convinced you that it's not happened. Hmm. You've got to stand when the devil's convinced you. That you're still unclean and you're not being washed. Or you're not born again. You've still got to stand. That's all. The secret of your salvation lies in one man. Who when he was plunged into darkness. In extremity on the cross. Still believed. Amen. To redeem you. Amen. Amen. The author of your faith. Yes, Amen. Amen. Now you've got to believe the Lord. I've been through what many of you are going through. I lived all out there once upon a time. You see. I know what it's like. I know that as the days get shorter towards the coming of the Lord. It's going to get worse. But praise the name of the Lord. The darker the night the clearer the shining of the light. Glory. And you are to resist and believe the exact opposite. To what the devil says. You are to believe even if you get a sort of sense of a feeling that it's right. You see. You are to believe God. And declare the truth. You see. Amen. And the Holy Spirit will confirm the work in your heart. Because you believe God. In the end God will get you off all kinds of thrills and exaltations and ecstasies. On to the naked word of God. Amen. And then you will be the word manifest in the flesh. When you believe it. And you will be a demonstration of what God says. I will believe God. And you've lost nothing save a childish disposition to believe Satan. Amen. You will have lost nothing. You see that. And you will come through strong men and women in Jesus Christ.
