Sarah Foulkes Moore

Sarah Foulkes Moore (March 31, 1890–March 25, 1973) was an American preacher, writer, and co-founder of Herald of His Coming, a ministry dedicated to prayer, revival, and preparing believers for Christ’s return. Born Sarah Margaret Foulkes in Wheeling, West Virginia, to James W. and Margaret Foulkes, she grew up in a Methodist family with a strong spiritual heritage—her father was a lay preacher, and her mother led a women’s Bible class. After her father’s death when she was 12, Sarah’s faith deepened through personal study and prayer, leading her to a conversion experience rooted in Methodist holiness teachings. She briefly attended Taylor University in Indiana but left due to health issues, later working as a schoolteacher in West Virginia. In 1937, at age 47, she married Willard C. Moore, a widower and traveling evangelist 11 years her senior, uniting their shared passion for prayer and ministry. In 1941, while living in a humble room in Los Angeles, they launched Herald of His Coming, an eight-page paper born from their burden for worldwide revival, funded by faith and printed on newsprint to reach the poor. Sarah’s role was pivotal—writing articles like “What It Means to Pray Through” and “Worldwide The Need-Worldwide This Call!”, editing content, and sustaining the work through fervent intercession. The couple led a spartan life, often fasting and praying late into the night, as the ministry grew to distribute millions of papers globally. After Willard’s death in 1950, Sarah continued leading the work until her own passing in 1973 in Pasadena, California, leaving a legacy of faith-driven evangelism and prayer that endures through Herald of His Coming. She had no children but nurtured a spiritual family of co-workers and readers.
