Sermon Summary
Lewis Gregory emphasizes the importance of knowing the Truth, which is Jesus Christ, as the ultimate liberator, transformer, and source of wholeness. He highlights that Jesus is the Living Word, the embodiment of God's truth, and the sole Creator, Savior, and Ruler of all things. Gregory underscores the unique attributes of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, and the significance of being in union with Christ, which enables believers to be like Christ and find their completeness and purpose in Him.
The One and Only
Someone recently said, “Mention one way in which you and Jesus are different. I bet you can’t!” This type of thinking is becoming quite prevalent among those who are talking about God, Jesus, oneness, union, grace etc. I praise God for the renewed interest in God and spiritual things. But individual beliefs, ideas and philosophies about God are not the same as the Truth of God. It doesn’t really matter what you think, say or believe. The only thing that really matters is the truth. And only when you know the Truth, can the Truth make you free. TRUTH liberates, transforms and makes whole. What has your version of the truth done for you? Jesus Christ is the TRUTH! It was Jesus Christ Himself who said, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17). And so we are told in John 1:1 that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Then we learn in John 1:14 that “The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Thus we see that Jesus Christ is the Living Word. He is the truth about God because He is the truth of God. Not only is what Christ says true, but also He alone is TRUTH! And TRUTH is REALITY. Everything else is an illusion, a mere imitation of reality. Christ alone is Eternal TRUTH and LIFE. (John 14:6) There may be many copies, but there is only One original! And His Word is Truth: Spirit and Life! So what does God’s Word say? “I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God” (Isaiah 45:5). “But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by Him” (1 Corinthians 8:6). “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). There is one and only one GOD who was embodied in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the sole Creator, Savior and sovereign Ruler of all things. “For of Him, and through Him, and to Him are all things” (Romans 11:36). Jesus Christ is the Redeemer; we are the redeemed. He is the Creator; we are the creatures. He alone is the Center, Source, and Substance of all things. And He alone holds all things together. Christ alone is the head of the body, the Church of the living God. And Christ alone is preeminent over all things (Colossians 1:14-19). Christ alone is all-powerful, all-knowing and omnipresent. Furthermore, Jesus Christ is the only one who has been given a Name above all names. And to Him alone shall every knee bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11). These are but a few of the many unique attributes regarding the Lord Jesus Christ. To be sure, when we receive Christ, we become one with Christ, which makes us like Christ. I personally became aware of this when the Holy Spirit revealed to me the truth of 1 John 4:17, “as He is, so are we in this world.” And then I saw it. “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, because I have been made one with God through my union with Christ.” The Apostle Paul’s testimony in Galatians 2:20 is now my testimony! The realization that I am complete in Christ and thus can now do all things through Christ, totally transformed my life. But make no mistake about it: this is only because of being in union with Christ. Apart from Him we are nothing and can do nothing (John 15:4-5). Christ is our life (Colossians 3:4). We have no life in and of ourselves. Christ Himself is Life, and we are made alive because of our union with Him. Thus, our life is a derived life. All we are and have is derived from Christ and Christ alone. It is He that has made us, and not we ourselves. (Psalm 100:3) We are what we are and do what we do, solely by the grace of God! (1 Corinthians 15:10) Jesus Christ is “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Rev. 19:16). He is the KING we are the kings. He is the LORD we are the lords. And all because of our union with Christ! Hallelujah! There is only one KING . . . all hail KING JESUS! And there is only one LORD . . . JESUS CHRIST is LORD to the glory of God. Therefore, to God and God alone be the glory!!!
