Bakht Singh

Bakht Singh Chabra (1903 - 2000). Indian evangelist, church planter, and Bible teacher born in Joiya, Punjab (now Pakistan), to a devout Sikh family. Educated at Punjab University, he studied agricultural engineering in England (1926-1928) and Canada (1929-1932), embracing a Western lifestyle, including smoking and drinking, while rejecting his Sikh roots by shaving his hair. Initially hostile to Christianity—once tearing a Bible apart—he converted in 1929 in Winnipeg after reading the New Testament, influenced by Christian friends John and Edith Hayward. Returning to India in 1933, he began preaching as an Anglican evangelist, later becoming independent, sparking the 1937 Martinpur revival, a pivotal movement in Indian Christianity. In 1941, after a night of prayer in Chennai, he founded Hebron Ministries, establishing over 10,000 indigenous churches modeled on New Testament principles across India and South Asia. Singh authored books like How I Got Joy Unspeakable and Full of Glory and held annual “Holy Convocations” in Madras, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Kalimpong, drawing thousands. Married to Rama Bai at age 12 in 1915, little is recorded of their personal life. His contextualized gospel, blending Indian spirituality with biblical truth, earned him the title “Elijah of the 21st Century” in Indian Christendom. Singh’s words, “I have never asked any man for anything, but the Lord is richly supplying all my needs,” reflect his faith-driven ministry. Despite Parkinson’s disease in his final decade, his legacy endures through Hebron’s global network and writings, praised by figures like Ravi Zacharias.

Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the Lord's servant emphasizes the importance of having a genuine love for God's house. He refers to a scripture from Psalm 26:8, which states, "Lord, I have loved the habitation of thy house." The speaker explains that this love for God's house is necessary in order to truly understand its significance. The sermon also mentions a commitment made by the Lord to the servant through boxing, and the dedication of the saints to fulfill the Lord's ministry. The sermon concludes with the release of a CD to glorify the Lord.
Sermon Transcription
Praise the Lord. Loving greetings to all beloved saints, believers, and loved ones. On 25th December 1959, the Lord's Servant, Bhairavakshin, along with saints, dedicated a brown for worship to fulfill Lord's ministry with commission and commitment as promised by our Lord in His word from Psalm 26, Chapter Verse 8, to His servant, Bhairavakshin. On this joyful occasion, we are releasing this CD for Lord's glory. Now, we enter this building with the desire in His words, Lord, I have loved the habitation of Thy house. You find it was also at the entrance outside Pandav. It's only when we have a real love for God's house, we can understand His word from the heart. I do trust that all of us can say these words from the heart. Lord, I have loved the place or the habitation of Thy house. There must be a sincere love for the house of God. If we want to be blessed by God, then we should have in the heart a sincere, pure love for God's house. And the place where Thy honor dwelleth, the place where God's honor, God's glory is fully revealed. This building has not been built for man's glory or man's comfort or man's pleasure. We say for God's glory that has been our desire from the beginning. We want God's honor to dwell here. Therefore, whatever is said and done and given, it may be a weekly gathering or a Sunday gathering. Ordinary gathering or a special gathering. A small gathering or a large gathering. May this be a place where the honor of God shall dwell. Now shall we pray. Loving Heavenly Father, in the name of Lord Jesus Christ, we give Thee our heartfelt praise and thanks for this happy day. We thank Thee for commanding us, for commissioning us to make our shift on this compound. We thank Thee for the mean use of Thee to secure this building, this compound for Thyself and Thy use. And we thank Thee for the plan given and the step given for the building of this structure. Now we pray Thy honor may dwell here day and night. God, Thy Word, it may be a tabernacle of Thy glory. God, Thy Word, all who come here may come with love for Thy house, Thy habitation and Thy dwelling place. This is a place of mystery and of Thy heavenly house. May Thy foundation be fully revealed. May this be a house of joy. May this be a house of worship. May this be a house of prayer. May this be a house of fellowship. May this be a house of service. May this be a house of sacrifice. May this be a house of revelation. May this be a house of divine illumination. May this be a house of salvation. May this be a house of heavenly bread. May there be no lack of bread in Thy house. May Thy bond be broken. May Thy wound be healed. May Thy eyes be opened. May Thy life be transformed. May Thy life be filled with love. May Thy power be magnified. Thy will be highly honoured. All be given the same welcome. Thy word may go forth many parts of India, Islam, Pakistan, Asia, Europe, America, Africa, and part of the world. May be kept on the shelf by mighty wings. O God, bless us. Verify Thy promise here and give it to us. Thou hast said, Sir, Thou hast said from this day, I bless Thee. And Thou hast said, The glory of the letter house shall be given forward. And Thou hast said, It is blessed like a peace. May it be so. Loving Father, we adore Thee. Falling upon our face, we worship Thee. Loving Father, without weakness, work to us a new way. And give us a fresh relish of Thy glorious beauty. Now we are allowed to go empty from Thy house. Glory bless Thee. We pray in the name of Thee, Lord. Yes, our Saviour. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Saviour. And verse eighty-nine. When Moses brought God's double-knuckle on the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him of the mercy seat that was upon the Ark of Testimony, from between the two chariot-beams, and he spake unto him. When Moses brought God's double-knuckle on the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him of the mercy seat that was upon the Ark of Testimony, from between the two chariot-beams, and he spake unto him of the mercy seat that was upon the Ark of Testimony. While we have been thanking God for this building given to us to worship Him and have fellowship with Him, while we have been thanking God for this building given to us to worship Him and have fellowship with Him and have fellowship with Him, at the same time we have not found the building made by man's hands. at the same time we have not found the building made by man's hands. 7th Anniversary, 7th January 1948 Of it, the most high, twelve blocks in temples, made with hands, as saith the Prophet, Heaven is my throne, and earth is my prestige. But how shall ye build me, saith the Lord? Or what is the place of my vessel? Had not my hand made all these things? Heaven is my throne, and earth is my prestige. But how shall ye build me, saith the Lord? The people who are quoting these words, how many books have I read? The people who are quoting these words, how many books have I read? How many words? One or two? How many words? One or two? Book of Isaiah, chapter 66 Book of Isaiah, chapter 66 Verses 1 and 2 Now saith the Lord, Heaven is my throne, and earth is my prestige. But how shall ye build me, saith the Lord? Or what is the place of my vessel? Had not my hand made all these things? But how shall ye build me, saith the Lord? Now saith the Lord, Heaven is my throne, and earth is my prestige. But how shall ye build me, saith the Lord? Or what is the place of my vessel? Had not my hand made all these things? But how shall ye build me, saith the Lord? Or what is the place of my vessel? She is ready for us to be carried away by outward appearances. But we do thank God for all His favour He showed to us enabling us to build this structure, this house, for Himself, for His use. We would like to be carried away just by wood and timber alone. As I mentioned yesterday in our prayer meeting, every part of this building has a history behind it. We have waited for an hour together before we began the work. But before we actually chose the site of this pandal, we spent many days in prayer. The Lord Himself gave us a plan, showing exactly the location of the pandal site. Then we prayed, O Lord, show us the dimensions of the pandal. Going by our first plan, which we first thought of, we only had thought of about two-thirds of the site. Then some of us said to me afterwards, that it won't be enough for our use. I said, at least more than one-half of the whole pandal. But that is part of our feeling. There must have been larger pandals and not smaller ones. So after many days of prayer, we decided the exact dimensions. About the length and the breadth and the height. Then we began to pray about the material. What kind of wood and what kind of aromatics to be used. We are not concerned with the money, we are concerned with the Lord's plan. And there were many suggestions made. So many people of experience gave us suggestions. Then finally the Lord gave us a plan. We know how every part of it has a spiritual history. At worst, every part has a spiritual lesson. But we will be sure clearly about the next plan, the whole part. We have seen God's hand working with us. Now we have all these past three months. We have seen God's hand working with us. Then we have seen God's hand working with us. Then we have seen God's hand working with us. So we can say that every part of the structure has been soaked with prayer. Before these tresses went up, every time we had to pray to the Lord. Every time he stuck up, stuck up somewhere, again we called upon Him. And of course, something we had to pray for many weeks. Then the Lord gave us His plans so clearly. Even though the Lord had been so gracious, so faithful in giving us the plan and the material and the workmen, I ran up on the building. I ran up on the timber and the sheaths, everything which you see here. I ran up on the Lord. The whole structure is a reminder of God's faithfulness. So unless we keep ourselves humble before Him, all the world will be in vain. What did He say to us? In the same reference. In the same section. The heaven is my throne and the earth is my stool. Very high will He build unto me and with the place of my rest. The building may give us a pleasure for some time. But the question is, what will give God the pleasure? In which way the heart of God will be satisfied. In which way this structure and we are God's people can give God the pleasure. But before we actually gathered here, we were filled with joy. But God wants joy to us by turning to Him. And He tells us directly how that joy can be given to Him. Isaiah chapter 66 and verse 2. And verse, last part. But this man will I look. He will be Him, that poor and contrite spirit and tremulous at my word. That's how God can find rest and joy to us on a daily basis. That we may tremble at His word. May honor His word day and night. May obey His word in every small detail. Ask what it may. We have to be prepared to obey God's word. There are occasions when God has asked us to do things with demand of a high price. Now there is a smooth sailing in obeying God's word. We have sometimes suffered much for God's worship. So we keep ourselves humble before God. Then very easy. If at all any sort of prior very car coming to us. Then we make our lives extremely difficult. That's our prayer very first day. God may keep us humble before Him. And teachers have to be truly humble. Not to be humble outwardly before man. But to be humble before God. When we rise our need of God constantly. And you see in Psalm 42. Psalm 42 and verse 1. And the heart fell on water brooks. So padded my soul are with you God. My soul plunged for God. Living God. Then shall I come and appear before God. That's the longing of a man of a poor spirit. Man longs to be with God. We cannot do without Him even for a second. Our longing for God should be like a thirst in the heart of this man. You see the heart will not drink water from a standing dirty pool. While the other animal will drink water when they are thirsty from any pool. When they see some pool of water they go and drink water. But the heart will not drink water from the standing pool of water. The heart longs for a stream of fresh water. And sometimes the heart has to go for miles in search for a stream of fresh water. Now on the way there may be many standing pools of water. But she won't stop there. Even though the path may be full of dangers. There may be many wild animals on the way like tiger or leopard. Yet their heart goes on running fast. Running to find that stream of fresh water. Oh God my soul is panting after thee like a heart panting for fresh water. Oh God my soul is panting after thee like a heart panting for fresh water. Don't be satisfied with a standing pool of dirty water. That's how many believers have lost their joy, lost their peace, lost their hope. They began very young. They were full of real for the Lord when they were born again. But when trouble came, trial came, difficulties came. Very gradually they became cold. Now they are quite satisfied by drinking the water in a standing pool of dirty water. They have been saved by the Lord and the worldly glories. And in time of marriages, another worldly advantage is Oh they have carried away my love for the gold, silver and plastic things. They are quite prepared to enjoy the Lord. They share the arguments. It does not matter. We have to live in the world. After all we have only friends. It does not matter. We do these things at the time of marriage. But that's how so many Christians, so many believers, they are drinking water from this filthy, dirty, defiled pool. That is like a worldly advantage. Yes, God won't compel you. He won't force anybody. He shows the way. And leave it to us. Either way or the other way. He won't push you by your neck. You make your choice. Do you want filthy, dirty pool of water? Are you thirsty for the fresh stream of living water? That's why we are saved by God. To live with Him. To live near Him. To live for Him. And to drink from His fountain every moment. Even though we may have to go through many dark valleys. Be thirsty for living God. Be hungry for living God. And willing to wear Mahi God. Even though you have to pay some price. But afterwards, you will be doubly compensated. When the Mahi God speaks, when the loving God speaks, I show you His secrets. Now don't be carried away by signs and outward things. But long for the Lord to speak with you person to person. And that's why we are saved by God. You know the whole story. When the Nisibulli came out of Egypt, at the moment, in Egypt there are so many miracles. On their behalf, God sends and plagues upon Egyptians. But they were magnified. These people came out. And He kept them there for 40 days. He told them, God has given them the pursuit to build a house for Him. Why should God want a house? He is everywhere. He lives everywhere. I have never seen a great king going about in search for a hut. Imagine a great king going in your seat and you question him. Your Majesty, what are you searching for? And he may say to you, I am looking for a habitation for myself. You may say to him, Your Majesty, there are so many palaces. Why are you coming over here looking for a hut? Why do you want to live among us? You find it very, very hard to understand this. Why should a king of that stature come like a beggar? But this truth is still more mysterious. God is saying to those people, those who have grieved Him, those who have failed Him, O my people, demur the blood, build me a sanctuary. Even though they would have thought for centuries, they could not have understood the meaning of it. But they knew one thing. They were words of God. Because they have seen Moses on the mouth. They have seen God's love on the mouth. So they knew fully well that Moses was not a mad man. He was a man of God. It was a unique structure. No other building was ever built like that. Going by the dimensions, going by the material, it was unique. No engineer or architect ever had a desire for a building. It was God's house. The house was complete. And the cloud came upon it. And the fire came as a sacrifice. And from that day, God began to speak in a new way. He began to speak from between 4 beams about the mercy seat above the earth. You know that Tabernacle three parts. The outer court where everybody are in a holy place. The most holy place. In the outer court there is sunshine. Sunlight. In a holy place light made by oil. In the most holy place no door, no window, no hope. Only divine light. Sunlight, all light, only divine light. In a more holy place there is an ark of God. All there will go both sides. And the top of the ark was a golden plate a mercy seat. And the same golden plate standing both sides can serve him. And I told, God began to speak from between 4 beams from that day. You know God always spoken to Moses in the burning bush. Then he spoke to him from the mountain for 40 days. Then he spoke to him from the cloud. And now this is entirely different speaking. It's wonderful to see God speaking from the bush. Imagine the burning bush in the fire. And there came the voice of God from that bush. And the morning was full of wonder. I see your person. Yet I hear the voice The voice came from the fire. Then the voice came from the fire. Then God spoke to him face to face on the mountain. Giving every detail of heaven and earth. But now he is speaking a different way. He is speaking a totally different way. God was telling him Moses' heart secrets. God has been keeping in the heart many secrets. From eternity. But from that day God began to reveal to him all his hidden heart secrets of centuries. Centuries. From that day they became God's people. Even though they couldn't understand what God was saying but the fact remains God was speaking and he spoke clearly and he spoke lovingly and he kept on revealing his mind. That's why God had brought them out of Egypt. That's why he had told them to build a sanctuary. Not for the sake of gold and silver and brass and blue and purple and scarlet. God had no need for these things. He owns everything. But he told them how they can hear the voice of God How can a mortal man a wretched man a ruined man hear the voice of God so clearly? How can the mind of God be revealed to a wretched man? And the heavenly mysteries hidden from angels reveal to man. The mysteries hidden from angels also. For God had been hiding from angels for not being the real truth of his character. As long as God could speak but when people fail God he will no longer talk on that. It's only a perishing material. And that's a very solemn warning. Every building doesn't matter who builds it or how you build it it's only a perishing material. But when God does speak then he speaks clearly it's only them only them the house of God. And that's our longing for this poor structure. That the loving God the holy God the mighty God may speak to us. He doesn't want good sermon either we want some very good Bible teaching. We don't want to sign a miracle. That the loving God may speak from the heart we may gather for weekly meeting or Sunday meeting small loving gathering or only a small number day and night our prayer is God may speak out in hearts he may tell us everything he may not withhold from us what he has longing to reveal. Have you seen two friends for sometime they are thick friends they confide very freely they tell everything then through some words spoken they come a straining in between they come some distance although they just smile and meet together but the heart has been changed every time you want to say something they are coming in a voice don't tell him everything don't tell him everything be very kind be very polite give him tea and coffee it is no matter let him eat everything he money also but be careful don't tell him everything you can't trust him fully he will fail you he will betray you be careful it is very very painful when suddenly happen what we find very hard to bear it but when the time comes when the time comes again come confidence same with God also they are chaos when God is silent we pray and heavens are closed we come to a meeting nothing happened and there is a very sad thing happening when God the loving God is even though he spread our needs ask for our prayers but he is never tell everything please see book of Genesis book of Genesis chapter 18 chapter 18 verse 17 and Lord said shall I hide Abraham that thing which I do at that time Abraham never knew Abraham never knew he never knew what was going to happen he never even heard of God but God is saying how can I how can I hide this thing from my dear loving intimate friend God is saying I can't move a step further I can't do anything I am helpless I must open my heart inner mystery God is saying that way I won't wait then God himself came to Abraham his own loving way he opened the heart to Abraham then God said now I am quite happy and free to my God this is God's God longs to speak to us to reveal to us his heart in more secret let our prayer for this structure God may feel free to speak with us God may not withhold any mystery any secret any plan any word from us even though that word may hurt us it may be word of rebuke a word of warning whatever it may be that's a very hard command our prayer is oh God go to speaking from thy throne every meeting give us thy fullness oh Lord by heart secret why don't they rush oh that's our longing we say before God we have no desire for lie numbers of the crowd or outward miraculous signs we want to live close to God through the heart his own heart can be opened and God can say to us come along my son look into my heart and let me tell you everything do you want that experience that's why God told you that's why God began to speak from that day they as a nation did not appreciate that love of God they only wanted God when they were in trouble they only should feel God when they were in trouble God knows we have no time for God and their violence already in our cases we only think of God when we are in trouble oh how sad it is somebody of us only come to God in trouble oh do not wait for somebody to come to God promote him day and night and ask him to speak to you and tell him very clearly Lord reveal to me my heart secret things are hidden from him the great man see Matthew gospel and chapter 13 and verse 16 and 17 Matthew gospel and chapter 13 and verse 16 and 17 but rest your eyes for they will see and your ears for they hear but I shall show you many people like these men have tried to see those things you see have not seen them either been here have not heard them so rest your eyes for they will see and your ears for they hear but I shall show you many people like these have tried to see them have not seen them either been here have not heard them but I shall show you have not heard them and I shall give them to you that same word I repeat to you God wants us to know his secret I only go to God desire in coming house of God. Do you come for service? Do you come for a good Bible teaching? Do you come for a good fellowship? Or what is your motive? Please see for yourselves. And then you will know how close you got to you. So we pray from the very beginning. Holy God, the loving God may speak from within to all of us. Day by day, week by week, month by month, revealing us all things in the heart. And may it be our daily experience and daily enjoyment. Now shall we pray. In the name of Lord Jesus, our loving Savior, we thank Thee for this happy day. Thank Thee for those who have come to take their share of blessing. Thank Thee for those who have done first already. Now we pray the promise of number, chapter 7. And what? It shall be fulfilled in us day by day. Lord, take away our eyes from perishing things. And take away our eyes from things of not. Take away our eyes from signs and miracles. We get the hunger and thirst for the living God. Allowing to be with Thee and live truly. Without hearing Thee speaking from Thy heart, sealing all our secrets. Lord, make the house of revelation every day. Whether we gather on weekdays or Sundays. Whether we are here for a public meeting or just for a personal meeting, showing things beyond our own capacity. Lord, make us live with love. Give us the wealth, power and property beyond our capacity.
