Sermon Summary
Mike Bickle discusses the profound connection between the earthly Jerusalem and the heavenly Jerusalem, emphasizing that during the Millennial Kingdom, the New Jerusalem will descend and serve as the eternal capital for the redeemed. He explains that this convergence allows for a dynamic relationship between the two cities, where the resurrected saints will inhabit the New Jerusalem while engaging in assignments on the Millennial Earth. Bickle highlights the significance of Jesus' throne being present in both Jerusalems, symbolizing the unity of the heavenly and earthly realms. He encourages believers to understand the fullness of God's plan, which includes the healing of nations through the leaves of the Tree of Life from the New Jerusalem. Ultimately, he paints a picture of a glorious future where the two realms will operate together in harmony.
Sermon Transcription
I want to talk about the Millennial Kingdom. I want to talk about the capital city of the Millennial Kingdom. There's a convergence of the earthly Jerusalem in the Millennium with the heavenly Jerusalem. That's 1500 miles city, one translation calls it. It's probably 1,380 miles technically. That city will descend and it will have a dynamic connection with the earthly Jerusalem. Now we'll live in the new Jerusalem, but we'll work on the Millennial Earth because distance, time and space, travel will be effortless and very, very fast. You can be in the new Jerusalem and be in your assignment anywhere in the earth in a moment's time. Paragraph A, the scripture describes two Jerusalems in God's plan, the heavenly Jerusalem and the earthly Jerusalem. This session is going to focus on the relationship of these two cities. During the Millennial Kingdom, this city is the capital city of the earth, the Millennial Earth and the, after the Millennium, the new heavens and the new earth, it's the eternal capital for the human race of the redeemed forever and forever. The very name new Jerusalem intentionally identifies with the earthly one. I believe the heavenly one was named first and then my assumption is the earthly one was named to reflect the one that was long before it. But the two of them have the same name in the Bible because they are meant to be understood as being connected in a dynamic way. For those that are new with us, paragraph B, the Millennium is a thousand year period. Again, this is the place where the saints will live, the resurrected bodies, that's where we'll live forever in the new Jerusalem. Paragraph C, the centerpiece, we say this several times through this session, so I'll be very brief here. The centerpiece of God's eternal purpose, Paul made it clear that God's going to join the heavenly realm and the earthly realm together here on the earth. That's, without understanding that, it's going to be difficult to grasp these many passages in the Millennial Kingdom. Because there's that heavenly dimension of the supernatural and there's the earthly dimension of human process. The natural realm, the two realms come together forever. Paragraph E, it's necessary for God's fullness to happen for both realms to be together. The natural, the spiritual, the supernatural realm together on the earth. Without both realms together the people of God won't experience the fullness. There's this dimension right through the New Testament about the fullness of God. It requires both realms together. In one of our sessions we looked at there's a supernatural eternal dimension related to the new Jerusalem. There's the physical paradise dimension related to the Garden of Eden. There's the Kingdom of David dimension that has righteous political and social dimensions. There's the spiritual dimension that we will function as a house of prayer and there will be a relational community dimension. All of these five are expressions of the fullness of God that we'll have with the full supernatural realm and the full physical material realm joined together forever on the earth. Beloved, that is an exciting future. Well I just wanted to give that quick review. Top of page two. Three times in the book of Revelation John emphasizes the new Jerusalem is coming down. Now when it says coming down it means to the earth. That's clearly the implication when he says coming down. Out of heaven, coming down from the heavenly realm, down to the earth is the idea. Now there's very few things in the book of Revelation that are emphasized three times. So the point being this was a priority to the Holy Spirit in communicating to John. This is a a key piece of understanding God's long-term purposes. The new Jerusalem will come down to the earth. The reason I say that it's emphasized three times and that's unusual for anything to be emphasized any activity three times in the book of Revelation. That tells you the supreme importance of this because I talked to some believers and they think what's this new Jerusalem coming to the earth thing? I go well actually it's an important theme in the Bible. This is the time when heaven will literally be on earth. We talk about heaven on earth a little bit right now by the presence of the Holy Spirit in the born-again believers in the church. But there's a time when heaven will fully be on earth. Paragraph B, Jesus' throne is both, I mean after He returns His throne will both be on earth in Jerusalem, the earthly Jerusalem, the Millennium and it will be the heavenly new Jerusalem. His throne will be in both places clearly from Scripture. Revelation chapter 22 tells us the throne of Jesus is clearly in the new Jerusalem. Where's the throne of Jesus? New Jerusalem. No question. But Ezekiel 43 tells us the throne of Jesus is in the earthly Jerusalem. And we know in Jeremiah 3, we have the passages right here, that the throne of God will be in the earthly Jerusalem in Israel. So beyond the earth in Jerusalem the throne of God will be on the Millennial earth but the throne of God will be in the new Jerusalem. So does Jesus have one throne or two? Yes. That's not the really the best answer but really He has one throne that has two expressions. There will be an expression of His throne in the new Jerusalem, an expression of His one throne on earth. So there's this dynamic convergence of the two realms around the throne of Jesus. Now again when you think of the throne of Jesus, don't think about a chair you know overlaid with a little gold with a few diamonds on it. Paragraph C, Jesus spoke about His throne twice in the in the gospel of Matthew. He called it the throne of His glory. Beloved this is a remarkable reality. This is a vast, glorious, I mean it's indescribable in its magnitude, in its glory, in its implications. When Jesus said the throne of glory undoubtedly again some people think of a you know a really nice looking chair with some gold on it and some jewels on it. No the throne of His glory, it's in the new Jerusalem, it's in the earthly Jerusalem. It's one throne connected in both realms. I believe that His throne is the connect point of the two realms. I suggest that His throne is not a little chair but it's a vast governmental complex. It's His throne house. It's His throne palace. It's His mountain throne city house. It's all one vast reality. His house, His resting place, His throne, His palace is one big massive reality that He referred to as the throne of His glory. It's far more than a chair overlaid with some gold. Now there's the Scripture doesn't give detail so this is speculation some of what I'm saying but I believe it's biblically informed meaning I believe there's that it's in the spirit of what the Bible presents but you can't be dogmatic about the details. We know the throne's in the new Jerusalem and we know the throne's on the earth that we know He only has one throne. That part you can be clear about. So I picture that here in the the possibility of a governmental complex called the throne of Jesus. The north end of this governmental complex extends into the new Jerusalem. Below that's a 1,500 mile city. His throne the north end extends that way. The south end is based in the Millennial Temple. He's gonna build the temple after He returns. There will be a tribulation temple. It will be built by the Jews in this age. It will be destroyed. Jesus will build a Millennial Temple and what that will look like it will be far beyond anything Solomon came up with. And His throne will be in that temple and His throne will be in the new Jerusalem. Again one throne in two expressions. Look down in Ezekiel 37. Look at 37. Talk about His temple or His sanctuary. It says they shall dwell. Here's the promise of the Lord Israel. They shall dwell in the land. Ezekiel 37 verse 25. Nation of Israel they'll dwell in the land I have given to Jacob my servant. This is the very physical land your fathers dwelt. So there's no spiritualizing this. It's the land where Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It's the land of the fathers is the idea. The land of Israel. Your people shall dwell there. Yes they'll dwell there. Their children will dwell there. Their children's children. He goes forever the nation of Israel will be in that land. And it's not a new land in the distant forever. It's the same land that David lived in. It's the same land that Abraham lived in. There's no spirit. It's really difficult to spiritualize this verse. The prophet Ezekiel says the land that your fathers lived in is the land your great great great great grandchildren forever will live in the same land. So some people say well that land is spiritual but you can't get around it. The Lord made it explicitly clear and He goes let me tell you something more about that land. Not only will you live there the nation of Israel forever. This very land. My temple will be there. My sanctuary. Sanctuary and temple interchangeable idea. And my temple will be there forever. In that same geographic area that Abraham, Isaac, David, Jacob and the forefathers they walked on. This is one verse of many why I believe the earth will continue forever. That at the end of the millennium when the Lord cleanses the earth with fire I believe that the earth is renovated not annihilated. I believe that He told them you'll live in that very land forever and my temple will be there forever. His governmental complex. His temple. Turn to page three if you would. There's four reasons why I believe the New Jerusalem is in close proximity to the earthly Jerusalem. But it's close to the New Jerusalem but not on the earth during the millennium. Let me say that again. People say well where is that New Jerusalem? Is it on the earth? I go no, no it's not on the earth. Huh. But it's not in heaven either. Nope. It's not in heaven. Came down from heaven. Okay. Jesus' throne is in it. And Jesus' throne is on the earth. Okay. So it's got to be close to the earth if Jesus' throne is in both places. I don't believe one's down here the other's far away in the heaven, you know in heaven far away. So I believe there's four reasons. I mean there's more than four. But these are four that that I think through and think about. And I'm sure there's more than this. That why I believe the New Jerusalem is close to the earthly Jerusalem. That the people on the millennia in the millennial earth will have access to it. They'll actually be able to go into it. I don't know who will. I know the kings of the earth will. But I don't know how many people will. But people will have access to that city. That supernatural city. Paragraph B. One reason is the size of it. Okay. When you study Ezekiel 48, it's clear that the millennial Jerusalem, whether it's, it depends on if, because Ezekiel says it's 4,500 cubits. But some scholars say that's 4,500 rods. So whether it's a cubit or a rod, I have the details in there. I don't want to go into that right now. My point being, the millennial Jerusalem is either about 10 square miles or the millennial Jerusalem is about 80 square miles, depending on if it's rods or cubits. But the point is, the millennial Jerusalem is less than 100 square miles. But the heavenly Jerusalem is 1,500 miles. So the very size and dimension of the heavenly Jerusalem makes it clear it can't fit on the, in the dimensions of the millennial Jerusalem. The millennial Jerusalem is less than 100 square miles. And the heavenly Jerusalem is 1,500 in each direction. It simply doesn't fit. But we know it's close to the earth, but it's not on the earth. Or it would, I mean it wouldn't, it wouldn't fit in that 100 square mile or less area that the prophets, the prophet made very, very clear, Ezekiel, the size of the millennial Jerusalem. So we know the two Jerusalems are still distinct in the millennium. They're connected but distinct. You can read that and go through it a little bit slower later, and I think it will make sense if you thought, hmm. So it's less than 100 square miles, the one on the earth. The one coming from heaven's 1,500 miles each direction. But they're connected, so the one in heaven can't actually, it would dwarf the earthly one. It would, I mean it would completely, I mean 1,500 miles, it would be gigantic. It just doesn't, the size correlation doesn't fit. Paragraph D, the leaves. We find out in Revelation 22 that inside of the New Jerusalem, there's a Tree of Life. The Tree of Life that is parallel to what showed up in the Garden of Eden way back in Genesis. The Tree of Life is in the New Jerusalem. Now this Tree of Life, here let's read it. It's on either side of the river that's coming out of the throne. The Tree of Life will bear 12 types of fruit, and every month it will have new fruit. That's interesting. But the leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the nations. Well the nations inside of the New Jerusalem don't need healed. But the leaves are inside of the New Jerusalem, but they're for the healing of the nations. They're not for the healing of the nations inside the city. The city is the perfection of glory. Those leaves will be used for the healing of the nations on the Millennial Earth. So somewhere, either angels are bringing those leaves down to the earth. I don't think that's the answer. I think that people with natural bodies on the Millennial Earth will actually have access to those leaves and those trees. They will actually bring those leaves back to the earth, and it will facilitate healing in the nations. I believe those leaves will have supernatural properties. And I believe that they, I mean my assumption is that people will eat the fruit, and they'll use the leaves, and it will touch their bodies in a way that has healing. But I believe it will be involved in healing the agriculture, in healing animals, because those leaves I believe will be brought out of the New Jerusalem, and they'll be used across the Millennial Earth. And they'll meet, I'm guessing, I mean this is speculation in this part, how it will heal the nations. This part's pure speculation. But the analogy I gave in one of the other classes is when the pilgrims came over from Europe, they brought all kinds of plants, and they came to America and planted them, and mixed them with other things, and vegetables, and gardens, and things happened that were new in America because of the transplanting of these seeds, I mean the bringing of these seeds, etc., etc. Well I think there's probably unending amount of combinations of ways that these literal leaves and these seeds will impact the natural Millennial Earth. And it will take a while. I don't think that, you know, let's take a handful of leaves and kind of spread them over the nations. I think that the kings of the earth will go into that city, and they'll have access to that, and they will, it will impact their agriculture, probably their atmosphere eventually from the agriculture, and the animal life, and the health, and the food. You'll, I'm guessing that it's possible it could be mixed in all kinds of ways. I don't know. Again that part's speculative. But we do know those leaves are for healing of the nations. And we know there's no nations that need healing inside of the New Jerusalem. I've read some commentator, commentaries on it. And they just do, they just ignore that detail. Or they spiritualize it. And they say, well it's not actual leaves, and the nations aren't actually healed, because the nations are already healed, because the second coming of Jesus. But I think this is literal. I think it means what it says. So I think the New Jerusalem will be close enough to the earth for the kings to have access to those, to the tree of life, and to the leaves that bring healing to the nations. Paragraph E, the kings. On the Millennial Earth the kings will come into the New Jerusalem. It's very clear from the Scripture. Let's read it. Revelation 21, verse 24. And the nations of those who were saved. So the saved nations, the nations that make it through the Great Tribulation. You know in Matthew 25 it talks about the sheep nations and the goat nations. The sheep nations. The Lord will separate all the nations when He returns. And the nations that are considered the sheep nations, they will, are the nations that will be saved. They will continue on through the Millennium. The goat nations are the ones that will be done away with as national entities. Well the nations of those that are saved, those saved nations that make it through the Tribulation and on to the Millennial Earth, the kings of those nations, they will bring their glory into it. And it is the New Jerusalem. So the kings of the nations with natural bodies, they will present the glory of their nations to the Lord Jesus. To the King of kings, they will present the glory of the nations to Him in person. And I'm assuming they'll have a personal audience with Him. He's the King of all the kings. And He, they will present their glory and honor of their nations. That means their, I don't know exactly what that means, but certainly their national resources and achievements. And I don't know exactly what it means, but whatever has been produced that is glorious in God's eyes, what their nation has produced, they will present it as an offering and a gift to the Lord. And they'll go into the New Jerusalem to present it. And it says it again in verse 26. So there's no mistaking it. They will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. They will bring into the New Jerusalem that which is not originally in it. It's not the glory of the nations that are there, because there'll be every tribe and tongue and nation of believers from all of history in the New Jerusalem with resurrected bodies. But this is not that. This is people from the earth, kings bringing their glory into that city. Goes on in Revelation 22 and John highlights a blessing. He said this is a particular blessing in Revelation 22, 14. For the obedient ones, He's talking about on the earth, that they would have the right to the tree of life. They would enter through the gates into the city. So He's right after the description of the New Jerusalem, He goes, let me tell you this. There's a blessing. There will be people, multitudes I'm assuming, many, many, many. They'll have a right to go through the gates of the city. And they'll have a right to have access to that tree of life. But right outside the city, outside of it, there will be the immoral and the murderers and the idolaters outside the city. And that could be a description of just believers from history and the outside the city means. They're in the lake of fire. That might mean that. And it could. But it, I think it's also very possible, it's talking about that there will be people with natural bodies that will have, they can choose immorality or obedience to God. And there's a faithfulness, I mean a blessing that is given to them. They'll be able to enter through those gates and partake of that tree. While at the same time there's immorality and idolatry and other activities that are going on outside of that city. And so you can't be sure if this verse is talking about a blessing for those in the millennium or just those throughout redemptive history or both and. But I believe it's possible it means both and. Paragraph F, a fourth reason why I believe the New Jerusalem is close, but not on the, on the millennial earth. The angels. It says the angels in Revelation 21, verse 12, their angels are at the gates. They're at the gates of the New Jerusalem. There's 12 gates and there's angels at these gates. Now these aren't little gates. When you figure there's 12 gates in a city that's 1500 miles each direction, it's about every 500 miles there's a gate. You know, go here to Denver, it's about 500 miles. There's one gate between here and there. So there's angels. I don't believe it's a little, you know, three by three gate or something. It's probably a pretty massive gate. And there's angels there that are determining, is the idea. We don't know exactly what they do there, but there are angels there at gates. And typically people are put at gates to determine who can come and go through those gates. And we know that, verse 27, again, that there shall be, Revelation 21, 27, there shall be by no means those that enter into that city, anything that defiles. So there are, it seems as though the angels at those gates are there as gate, as watchmen of the gates. And they're gatekeepers. And that nobody is able to enter into those gates except for they have a right of entry. Now we have a parallel passage. I think it's parallel. I mean, I believe it's reasonable that it's parallel. You can't be dogmatic about this. But I believe that the Bible is suggesting a picture. And the Bible leaves it vague on purpose, so I don't want to get detailed in any kind of dogmatic way. I want to keep it speculative and just thinking, huh. But what we're trying to do is get a closer picture in the most general broad strokes way of what this inheritance looks like, so that we think more about it. Because as the one preacher said, if you, if you don't think rightly about heaven, you don't ever think about heaven. You don't think about heaven at all. And the reason a lot of people don't think much about heaven, they just think about worshiping on a cloud, walking on streets of gold, that's about it. And they can't think much more about it. But if we can picture this, again, broad strokes in very, very general terms, informed only by what the Bible suggests, it helps us get at least a, a general idea of what the possibilities might be by, be alike. You just can't be dogmatic about it. But at the same time, we don't need to ignore these passages. But a parallel passage was in Genesis chapter 3, where after Adam sinned, you could read it there in verse 22, after Adam sinned, the angels stood guard at the, at the Garden of Eden, so they couldn't have access to the Tree of Life. It's though the angels are there with this flaming sword. I mean, it's Adam and Eve. I mean, what are they going to do? Come gang up on the angel? I mean, there's only two of them. But they have this flaming sword standing at the gate, so to speak, guarding the entrance and protecting the Tree of Life. So they could not go there. And I'm assuming the angels in the New Jerusalem have a parallel function related to the Tree of Life, the angels before it. Because we know that the New Jerusalem has a Garden of Eden dimension to it. And so I think it's possible that there are angels at the gate, and there's people with natural bodies, kings of the earth have access to go into it. Others may have access to it. There may be the blessing. Remember there, we just read it in chapter 22, 14. Blessed are those that obey the commands of God. That might, that blessing might extend over into the Millennial Kingdom as well. That there are people that have access to those healing leaves, that Tree of Life with the leaves that heal the nations, but only the obedient can get through it. And it's very, to me it's probable, in my thinking, it's an opinion of course, that angels are there guarding and allowing only the right people to come through. But the point being is, the city of the New Jerusalem is close enough to the earth for this dynamic to be in place. And again, you could add a fifth reason, is that the throne of Jesus is in both places. And I don't think it's figurative. I think His literal physical throne is in the New Jerusalem, and His literal physical throne is on the Millennial Jerusalem. And I believe it's one throne. It's a vast throne of glory. It's a vast governmental complex, is my opinion. It's far more than a little gold-laid chair, as I mentioned before. Top of page four. Jesus, paragraph 8, He rules in heaven as the Son of God, but He'll rule on the earth as the Son of David. He'll bring the two dimensions together. He's the only man that can bring the heavenly divine realm together with the earthly human realm. Because He's fully God and fully man. He's the Son of God and the Son of David, with a throne in two places. And I believe it's at His throne is the convergence of the two realms. All authority is His in heaven and earth. He has full authority in both realms. And I believe the government of heaven and government of earth will come together in the throne of Jesus at the time of the Second Coming. Come together on the earth. Paragraph B. Now the New Jerusalem descending to the earth, the New Jerusalem coming down to the earth, will create a whole new dynamic. A whole new situation will happen for the earth. A glorious one. Because the natural and the supernatural realms will come together and they'll operate together in a dynamic way. The veil between the two realms will be lifted. And that's hinted at as well in Isaiah chapter 25, where it talks about the veil being lifted. And it seems as though it's talking about the veil between the two realms. But the idea is that this room is full of angels right now. And when Elisha, his servant, was afraid, Elisha said, Lord, open his eyes. Let him see the reality of what's here. And the servant's eyes opened in 2 Kings 4. And he saw that the mountains were filled with the chariots of angels. He went, oh my goodness, they're here. Elisha said, they always were here. They didn't just come here because your eyes opened. There's a veil between the two realms. Well, that veil will be lifted. I mean, beloved, can you imagine you will live in that realm with a resurrected body, fully physical, on a natural earth, the supernatural dimension of the New Jerusalem forever and forever and forever and forever. That's your destiny. That's who you are. That's what you're about. It's worth it, pressing into God and obeying Him. It really is. Where we're going and who we are and who we're connected to right now is so remarkable. Paragraph D, my opinion, I think that when the two realms come together at the throne of Jesus at the Second Coming, that's, that veil's lifted. That's where the explosion of the glory of God, you know, I quote, unquote, explosion of the glory of God, it breaks out of Jerusalem like a ripple effect and it covers the whole earth. And that's what the thousand years is about. It takes that long for the healing leaves, for the river of life, for all the righteous laws and policies to spread progressively through human process, but with supernatural dynamics throughout the whole earth. And to be tested, to be seasoned, to mature, and to fill the nations, I think it will actually take a thousand years for that to happen. But a portal will be opened in the Spirit. You know, we hear people say, well, there's a portal open. Well, when Jesus's throne comes down from heaven and Jesus's throne's on the earth and there's the two dimensions of His throne, beloved, that's a serious open heaven right there around the person of Jesus that will touch the entire earth over time. I mean, it will, the whole earth will end up in the Garden of Eden kind of conditions with the supernatural realm of the Spirit taking place and the earth will be filled with the glory of God. I mean, that's happening in part now through the church, through God's servants, born-again believers. The earth has dimensions of the glory of God, but beloved, there's coming a day where this will happen in fullness. The earth will be full of the glory of God in the truest, most literal sense we full of the glory of God. Paragraph E, Jacob had a little bit of insight into this. He's having this dream, Genesis 28, verse 12, and this dream, there's a ladder set up. The ladder's going from the earth, it reaches heaven. Angels are going up and down this ladder. Jacob's going, wow, this is intense. Angels going up and down. There's a particular geographic place in Bethel, verse 17. He said, how awesome is this place. I'm going to focus on that phrase, this place. There's a geographic place where there will be an open heaven, I believe. I mean, a portal is way too small of a word. He said, this place is none other than the house of God. It is the very gate of heaven. Bethel is 12 miles from Jerusalem, and in the millennium, it will be a part of the millennial territory of Jerusalem. And I believe that Jacob actually gained insight into where that reality of that place in Jerusalem, because again, Bethel would then be encompassed within the boundaries of the millennial Jerusalem. That place is none other than the house of God. It's the gate where the heavenly realm enters into the earthly realm and touches the earth in a magnitude beyond measure. Now again, that's happening by the Holy Spirit through believers being across the earth right now. But I'm believing that when Jesus' throne comes together in the two places, I mean, brings the two realms together, that house of God dimension with an open heaven, it will ripple out throughout the whole earth as the full open heaven. It was in John 151 when Jesus referenced this verse. He goes, there's coming an open heaven where you'll see those angels ascending and descending. And he talked about that in John 151. Let's turn to the top of page 5. My opinion, again, I can't be dogmatic, but many people over the years have believed this and taught this, commentators have, scholars have. So it's not a new idea. I got it from others, from other commentaries. But when I compared the Scripture with the Scripture, I've read it from a number of different scholars. I go, yeah, I think you're right. Others disagree with this. They have a different opinion. But I believe that the new Jerusalem will descend to the earth twice. And again, that's a view that's been taught by the different scholars and commentators over the years. I've learned it by, the reason I say that, because some folks, I've talked to some young people, they go, did God show you that? I go, no, actually I learned it just by comparing Scripture from Scripture by reading a number of folks who write on the subject. And to me it's clear from the Scripture. But again, it's not so clear you can be dogmatic about it. But I think it's, the Bible informs this opinion, and I think it's a, you're in the right vein of truth to see it this way. Again, I don't have negative ideas about people who see it on the other way. But the idea that the new Jerusalem will descend at the beginning of the millennium, and it will be in proximity to the earthly Jerusalem, near it, in a dynamic convergence with it, we don't know exactly how that is going to be. It's going to be close enough to the earth, where the kings of the earth can go in it, get the leaves, bring their glory in. But still it's not on the earth, because it's 1,500 miles, and the earthly Jerusalem is only going to be, you know, less than 100 square miles. We don't know the exact size. And so, when you read the book of Revelation, I think you can see the two different descendings of the new Jerusalem, at the beginning of the millennium and at the end of it. Now, I don't want to spend a lot of time on this, but, because I think it'll take you a while to read it, compare the verses, go back, look at it again, take you a few minutes to connect with it. But I think I've laid out the key ideas here as to why. And one of the reasons is there's a parenthetical section, there's a parentheses. Throughout the book of Revelation there's five sections that are parentheses, meaning the storyline that unfolds in a chronological way is put on pause. And the chronological storyline that unfolds is paused, and an angel talks to John and says, let me tell you some behind-the-scenes information. That's a parentheses. And there's five sections in the book of Revelation from, in my opinion, and again, there's plenty of others that I got this understanding from others. It wasn't a particular special revelation or anything like that, like some imagine. I said, you give me too much credit. But just through studying it, the Bible, and from the resource of teachers throughout the body of Christ. But there's five chronological sections in the book of Revelation. And this final one, this fifth one, like all the other five, the storyline's on pause. There's a parenthetical situation that's telling you, a parentheses, what's happening behind the scenes, giving more information to help you understand the storyline as it unfolds. And I believe that one of these, descending of New Jerusalem, is at the very end of the storyline, the very end of the Millennium. The New Jerusalem descends. But the one in chapter 21, verse 10 of the book of Revelation, that's a parenthetical section. It's describing what's happening during the Millennium. In paragraph C, again, without taking a little time to compare it and get familiar with the ideas, if you're not familiar with the, with the language of this, it might be a little hard to get in three minutes. But if you study it and look at it, you go, okay, I can, okay, it makes more sense now. I'm getting used to the idea of, I mean, I'm getting used to the ideas of what's happening in those chapters. But in paragraph C, you'll notice a very intentional similarity. There was one of the angels, of the seven angels, he had one of the seven bulls, he showed John the harlot in chapter 17. One of the angels with the seven bulls showed John the bride in chapter 21. And there's parallels to these two parenthetical sections that I believe are meant to be understood as parallels together. And again, that's, it's a very simple thing I've just said, but if you're not familiar with the details of these couple chapters, it may take you a few minutes on your own just to read it, get together with a few people, talk about it, compare the verses with each other and go, okay, I can see. And in one of these parallel, I mean, one of these parenthetical sections, the angel shows John the bride. The other one, he shows John the harlot. One of them, he takes John to a high mountain. The other one, he takes John to a wilderness. And there's very similar language in both of them are, are parenthetical sections or parentheses in which the storyline has been put on pause for a few moments. Paragraph D, if you see the structure of Revelation 21 and 22, like I've just described, you can see the two descents of the new Jerusalem, one at the beginning and one at the end of the millennium by reading it through that structure. And again, if you're not familiar with those chapters and you're kind of new at them, it may take you a few minutes to read over it and to compare it. But I think it's worth your time to do it. It's not really confusing. Just, you just got to get familiar a little bit with the terminology of those chapters. Roman numeral six, Jesus' throne of glory, His mountain city house. You know, that's not the exact terminology, but of, I mean, the scripture calls it His mountain. It calls it His city. It calls it His house. But it never does the scripture put it as one term, you know, a mountain city house. But all those ideas are combined together and they overlap. Paragraph A, Jesus' throne of glory can be compared to a mountain, can be compared to a city and a house. It is His glorious resting place on the earth. In Isaiah chapter two, it says, in the latter days, the mountain of the Lord's house will be established on the top of mountains. Those are two different uses of the word mountain. They're used differently in this one verse. The mountain of the Lord's house, you can take it figuratively, like many do, and they just say it's the church. Because a mountain is a symbolic of government. And I think that that's a biblical approach. And I believe that you can use this verse that way, but it's only a partial understanding of it. I believe the Lord's house, His throne of glory, is a mountain. It is, it's not just figurative. It is a mountain in size. It's a vast governmental complex. I mean, the New Jerusalem is 1,500 miles. And His throne is in it. I mean, it's a vast house. Not a little throne in a little house. It's a, as Isaiah said, the mountain of the Lord's house. I think that's actually talking about Jesus' throne of glory. Though we could use that verse symbolically in the church age to talk about how the church is impacting different spheres of society. But that, I don't believe, is in all the fullness of what was in God's mind when He gave this to Isaiah. It will be established on the top of the mountains. Zechariah 14 makes it clear that what happens, all the mountains surrounding Jerusalem, there's going to be a great earthquake. And they're all going to be leveled as a plain. And Jesus' temple will be built on top of all of those current mountain areas. At this point in time they're mountain areas. But in Zechariah chapter 14, all those mountain areas are going to be leveled and made a plain. And the temple and the throne of the Lord will be put on top of that. That's literally going to happen, not figuratively. So His mountain house, a vast throne of glory governmental complex, will be on the geographic area around Jerusalem. It's full of mountains, but one day that mountain will be leveled and Jesus' mountain house will be on top of that mountain. And I think it's absolutely what it said, means what it says, and says what it means. Though I'm all for taking it spiritually in this hour and gaining some insight about what's happening in the church, but that isn't the full meaning of what's going on here. Many people will say, come let us go to the mountain of the Lord. It's the mountain house. That's the throne of glory. That's where Jesus is giving wisdom to the nations. They all come to His mountain house, the mountain of the Lord. Moses saw that. Look at paragraph B. Look at paragraph B. It says that, Exodus chapter 15, the Lord told Moses, you will bring them in and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance. I mean, Moses is saying this to the Lord. You will bring in Israel and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance. That's the place of your sanctuary where your temple will be. Okay, top of page six, Psalm 48. We'll go two, three minutes more. They won't have a Q&A time. Notice in Matthew chapter five, Jesus called Jerusalem the city of the great King. It's like He was saying very, I can feel His affection. That city is my city. I'm the great King. That is my city forever. I was at the right hand of the Father back before, and that was my city. That's the city Abraham was looking for. That's the city my throne would be in forever. I can just imagine Him bursting out this exclamation, calling Jerusalem the city of the great King. That was personal to Him. Psalm 48, this is one of the most remarkable passages, Psalm 48. I believe it's talking about the Jerusalem in the millennium in connection with the new Jerusalem, His mountain house, His throne of glory. Now read, this is quite remarkable. It says here, great is the Lord. He's greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in His holy mountain. So the city of God, the house of God, the mountain of God are all coming together. Verse two, beautiful in elevation, meaning the city is actually elevated as the highest point in the earth. Beautiful in elevation, I believe means geographic elevation. It would be the highest point, certainly in that area, maybe the whole earth. Nowhere does it say the whole earth, but we know it's the highest point. His mountain house is on the top of all the mountains, is certainly in that Middle East area, probably the whole world. This city will be the joy of the whole earth. It's the city of the great King. This is a city, the new Jerusalem, the city of Jerusalem, the throne of glory as the centerpiece of that city. Look at verse four. This is remarkable what verse four says. The psalmist says, for behold, the kings, they assembled, they passed by together. They saw it. They saw the city. So here's these kings. They marveled when they saw the city. They were troubled. They ran away when they saw the city. Fear took hold of them and pain as a woman in birth pangs, as when you, Lord, break the ships of Tarshish with an east wind. Verse eight, here's what they'll say. As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the Lord, the city of our God, God will establish this city forever. I think he's talking about the city of the Lord, the mountain of the Lord's house, the throne of glory, the convergence of the two Jerusalems, the two realms coming together, the millennial kings who come into that city, the new Jerusalem, to bring their glory and honor into the city. Let me just kind of say it in kind of a, just make up a scenario. This is obviously not exactly how it will be, but I can imagine a new king. You know, he's the new king over a nation. The millennium has been going on for a couple hundred years, and one of these seasoned kings says, hey, have you been to see the world headquarters? Have you been to the governmental palace of Jesus, the king of kings? Well, no, no, no. I've, you know, I've, I've, I know all about him. I've seen him in various ways, but I've never actually been in that city before. I've never had a, as one of the kings brought to the great palace to have my first meeting. And they, verse eight, it says, if we heard, so we have seen it. It's, so they hear stories about it before they go. And when they go, they pass by the city. Verse five, they see it. And when they see this city, they are so filled with marvel. They are so troubled. They're terrified. They look at the city. They go, this is beyond anything we ever imagined. And fear actually grips them and marvel at the same time. And they say in verse eight, as we have heard, so now we have seen the city of our great God. And I believe this is giving us a snapshot, a, a sneak peek into the human dynamics that will happen when kings behold the city. Now notice verse two, it's the joy of the whole earth. It will end in paragraph D. He will make Jerusalem a praise in all the earth. It's not just that the nations are going to say, you know what? We finally understand Jerusalem's important and we praise Jerusalem. The throne of glory will be in that city. The convergence of the two realms, the mountain of the Lord's house. The kings will be terrified when they see. The whole earth will be talking about that city of Jerusalem in the convergence of these two realms together. And Jesus will be king of kings. And look what it says. We'll go one more verse in paragraph E. All the nations, they will worship the king. Look what it says in Zechariah. Everyone who's left of all the nations after the great tribulation in the world, they will worship Jesus, the Lord of hosts. They will go to the city of Jerusalem and they will worship the king in that day. Amen and amen.
