This sermon focuses on Revelation 3:20, emphasizing the urgency of responding to Jesus' call to open the door of our hearts to Him. It highlights the consequences of delaying or rejecting this call, the need to let go of sin, and the certainty of salvation when we invite Jesus into our lives.

Revelation chapter 3 and we're just going to read one verse this evening. I'm sure many will be familiar with this verse. It was originally written for Christians and indeed still is, but the Lord has been pleased to use it down through the centuries in the preaching of the gospel and in bringing many to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus. Revelation chapter 3 and verse 20 where the Lord Jesus says, Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come into him and will sit with him and he with me. Amen and God will bless the public reading of his word. Let's unite together in prayer just before we look at God's word together. Our Father again we thank thee for the influences of eternal things brought upon our minds through singing, through ministry, through prayer and now Lord as we turn to thy word we pray for the help of God and the help of the Holy Spirit that thou would speak Lord to every heart. We're conscious Lord there are those who are in need tonight and some who don't even know they're in need but Lord thou can come to them and thou can make them to know their need and heal them. We pray in Jesus name for help then. Lord afresh I give to thee all that I have and am. I claim thy cleansing and sanctifying power in my spirit soul and body and for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ for the extension of thy eternal kingdom and for the fulfillment of divine promises I take the promised Holy Ghost the blessed power of Pentecost to fill me to the uttermost I take and I thank thee that he the Holy Spirit will undertake in Jesus name. Amen and Amen. Behold I stand at the door and knock. This is no ordinary person knocking. This is the Lord Jesus the Son of God and I want to speak to you for a little time tonight on this concluding night on the last call. The last call because you see there comes a point where God our Creator who is so patient with us in our sin. There comes a point when God's patience wears out. You see sinner you wouldn't be alive tonight only for the mercy of God. Now you think that you enjoy the health you have and you live as you live because that's the way it's always been and everything's okay but I just want to tell you tonight that you're living under the mercy of God and the mercy of God is like a dam and over the years God has built that dam up and your sin like water has been coming up against it and you have thought over the years that sin doesn't have any consequences but you see God's mercy has been holding up and what happens in the lives of people is that eventually God says I've had enough. Now I can't tell when that happens in a man's life but the Bible says in the Old Testament God said that the cup of iniquity gets full and when it does God said that's it and what happens in the lives of men and women and young people is that God bursts the dam and all the consequences of unforgiven sin it comes flowing like a river and it sweeps you away to hell but the Lord Jesus God's lovely son comes and speaks and I trust tonight that God will speak to your heart if you're not saved or maybe you've got an old false profession you maybe prayed a prayer whenever you were a child I want to tell you my dear friends praying a prayer won't save you. I want to say something that even saying the right prayer asking Jesus into your heart won't necessarily save you. Will you say how do I know then whether I'm saved? Well the Bible says he that hath the Son hath life. If you've got a living relationship with the Lord Jesus then you're saved. If he's real our sister sang earlier he walks with me and he talks with me. Well that's true. A great preacher of a past day in Scotland Robert Murray McShane said this I know Jesus Christ better than any earthly friend. He's a real person and you talk to him and he talks back to you. I trust tonight that you'll come to him and if you're leaning on an old false profession that you let it go to hell where it deserves to go and you'll really be saved and you'll really be born again. The Bible tells us that whenever God created Adam in the garden that every day God would come. It's a lovely picture. I love it. Every eventide whenever I don't have meetings to go to and it's a lovely evening I go for a walk when I get a chance and I often think about this text because it says in the eventide that the Lord came to the garden and I can just imagine how the Lord and Adam would talk and I can imagine some of the things that Adam would ask the Lord because you see God is all-knowing there's there's no exhausting God's knowledge and I can just imagine that Adam would listen and ask the Lord questions and God would give him answers and you know Adam loved the Lord because there was no sin but the day came when sin entered and the Lord's voice couldn't be heard clearly anymore and you know we might be advanced we've got our high-tech society we've got computers we've got mobile phones we've got the mobiles we've got the internet I want to tell you friends according to the Word of God there's no part of creation is as dumb and as cut off from God as man the Bible teaches that animals are far more in tune with God the Creator than man is when you read the Old Testament you discover that there was a man called Jonah who disobeyed the Lord and the Lord sent a fish and the fish came up and swallowed him and then vomited him out as God told the fish then we read of a prophet in the Old Testament in Kings he was obeying the Lord he was at the brook Cherith and the Lord sent the ravens contrary to their nature God sent ravens with bread and meat day and night they came and dropped off the food the Lord Jesus on one occasions he turned around and said to Peter Peter you know we have to pay our taxes here and we haven't got the money but you take out a little line on a fishing rod and you throw it into the water and he the Lord Jesus said there's gonna be a fish will come up and it'll catch the bait and you pull it out and there'd be a coin in its mouth enough money to pay the tax man enough for me and they I want to tell you my dear friends that the animal kingdom understands their Creator but you see the full effects of sin bore heavily into the heart of man and the Bible says God speaketh once yet twice yet man perceiveth it not God speaks all you say I never heard God speaking that doesn't mean he didn't speak God speaks once yet twice yet man perceives it not God has spoken to you in your life you say I haven't heard it you're just so blind and so dead and so cut off from God you know my occupation if you could call it that it shouldn't be the calling of preaching should never be viewed as an occupation if it is you shouldn't be in it it's a calling from God it's something eternal it calls you from the realm of time into eternity where you're basically your occupation and mine is tonight is to 30 minutes to raise the dead that's my job tonight if you're in this meeting tonight and not saved you're dead you're as dead as people up around that bell lying in the cemetery spiritually you're totally cut off and it takes resurrection power it takes a miracle from God to raise you from the dead and make you a Christian and prepare you for heaven I trust that the Holy Spirit will do that miracle in your life tonight and that you'll become a real Christian well my dear friends you know God speaks God still speaks and thank God he does I have a wife she wasn't able to come tonight we had visitors come through the door as I was leaving but nevertheless she is an interesting testimony for she was a punk rocker some of the older folk will remember what they were but younger ones won't but there were basically people that had safety pins in everywhere but the right place they just were quite wild-looking they had their hair every shape and color and they looked the strangest character certainly I've often said if I had met her before she was converted her and I would have never crossed the street to admire each other because I was a strict Presbyterian and she was a punk rocker and we between never would have met but the Lord got hold of her and saved her and she was brought up in a good godly home in the Isle of Lewis or a little island called the Isle of Paris that joins it and she had a godly and has a godly praying mother and her mother kept praying the more her daughter got wilder and wilder and further and further from the thing she was brought up to know to be right and she got into company that was completely ungodly most of the friends that she had in her early days were were so warped and twisted and drugs and and in all kinds of immoral lifestyle most of them are now dead most of them are dead and she was in among them but her mother prayed for her and her mother never stopped praying for her and there was a wee prayer union of people that really knew how to get hold of God some old men and old women and they prayed for her and they wouldn't give up until God would hear their prayer and save her soul and she often tells in her testimony when she went down Princess Street in Edinburgh she had one of those ghetto blasters you know you see some young people it's amazing they're not all deaf they go about with this big thing and about ten speakers around their ears and they blast and dear help us everybody within 20 foot of them is deaf never mind them and she had one of those going down the street do you know why she had it on her ear do you know why she had that in her ears because she said as she was walking down Princess Street looking so worldly and ungodly and living for a wicked world she said God was speaking to her and she put the music on as low as she could to get rid of this voice but it wouldn't leave because God has a voice and God speaks to people and it's real and when God's speaking to you you know he's speaking to you you don't need a clergyman or an evangelist to tell you it's happening you know when God's speaking to you that voice is wonderful but you know friends sometimes you can put it off and sometimes people have put it off many years maybe there's some older folk in here tonight you're an elderly person and God doesn't speak to you now the way he used to maybe there's only a faint wee whisper coming I want to tell you tonight whether it's loud or whether it's a faint whisper you run with all your heart because if that voice stops you'll be damned you can't be saved unless God's speaking to you I could speak to you and read the Bible to you to your hundred-year-old if God doesn't speak in amongst all that you're a lost man or woman and if God never speaks to you I don't care how many prayers you pray or how many churches you go to my friend you're lost God has to speak to you the Bible says in Genesis chapter 6 he says my spirit shall not always strive with man God says don't be thinking I'll always come alongside and speak he said there are times when I come alongside I'll give you an opportunity but you know God's a perfect gentleman if you refuse him knocking the door and you don't answer God will leave you and you'll bear the consequences for all eternity there's a call in the voice or in the text I stand at the door and I knock this is God knocking I know but then there's a choice in the text he says I stand at the door and knock if any man hear my voice and open the door it's a choice I'm sure sometimes in the road of life you have maybe not felt like answering the door for whatever reason maybe you didn't like the person at it or maybe you just didn't feel able to answer it and they've knocked and knocked and knocked and knocked and you didn't answer do you know what happens eventually well if they've any common sense you know what happens they turn around and walk away and that's what God does as well eventually when he sees he's not wanted he walks away there's a choice in the text and the Deuteronomy chapter 30 we read of Moses that he said on one occasion to the children of Israel he said I call heaven and earth to record against you that I have set before you this day blessing and cursing life and death therefore choose life that both you and your children may live dear parent listen tonight or those of you who are interested in entering into a family and having a family listen the consequences of your decision will not merely lead to the destruction of you and your soul but ultimately it will probably lead to the damnation of your children as well and you'd have been better never to have any and to bring them into the world and lead them into making money and living for material things and doing all that so many do and ultimately to see them die and go to a lost hell for all eternity you'd be better not to have them the choice you see my dear friends there are many people and when the call of God comes to them the door remains closed and there's reasons why the door remains closed and there's some of you in here tonight and the door to the Lord Jesus oh you look lovely you're dressed up you look the part but I want to tell you if I had the eyes of the angels and I had the eyes of the Lord I would see a heart that was holding out against God and I would see a will that was bound towards Satan and darkness and sin some people keep the door closed to God because of a deliberate delay a deliberate delay it's not that they choose to go to hell because nobody in their right seeing mind would go to hell I have only had two men in my life came to me and said they wanted to go to hell either two people came and told me that but the amazing thing is the both of them took the time to come back and see me and told me they changed their mind so I have never yet met a person who wants to go to hell never yet but you know what this book tells me narrow is the way that lead us to life and few there be that find it broad is the way that lead us to destruction and many there be which go in there at not all will be seen oh I wish I could I wish with all my heart you have no idea how I wish that all would be seen but I'd be telling lies and I wouldn't be a representative of the Lord if I told you that you see not all will be seen only those who repent and come to Christ will be seen the Bible Bible says about a man when Paul was preaching was called Felix is a governor and when the Apostle Paul preached the gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit the Bible says that Felix the governor trembled he shook I've been in meetings where I have witnessed God moving on people and they physically shook I've seen it many times remember a man one time afterwards he was a Christian in the meeting and the Lord came during the meeting and spoke to him and afterwards he came around and he apologized because he couldn't stop shaking Felix trembled but listen he only trembled that's all I did there's no record of Felix ever becoming a Christian I worked with an evangelist shortly after I was saved for about a year and he told me a story about a woman in a mission much like this it went on a few weeks and this lady came to the mission and God was speaking to her oh when she went out of the meetings God still spoke whenever she got into her car and drove home God was still speaking when she got into her car God was still speaking showing her her sin showing her the judgment that was before it showing her that she needed to be saved and you know one night night after night she listened one night she got in into bed and it was so strong so strong that she took the pillow and pulled it up over her head and she shouted leave me alone and like that it was gone she had no more trouble with God she had no more concern for her soul she could have sat through any meeting and anybody preached it had no impact on her you say well how do you know the story because many many years later whenever it had got to the stage where it seemed that she was a lost cause she was in a meeting and God spoke faintly to her soul and she ran to the Lord and she told that evangelist the story oh my dear friends listen God was merciful but you could miss it you could miss it you see some people keep the door closed because of a deliberate delay others because of a divine departure God leaves God leaves. An evangelist from up outside Ballymena he's now with the Lord he was an elderly man when he died told the story of a campaign that he had in County Antrim one night during the campaign a young girl with her mother both saved and loved the Lord they came along and the son and brother came along a lovely big fellow in his strength and he was he was a beautiful ginger hair and a young man in his 20s came along but you know the evangelist got burdened for him because the Holy Spirit can show the preacher things that's happening in the meeting the Lord can point out people and you can just know what's going on inside them it's only the Lord can do it but the Lord does do it sometimes and as the preacher was preaching the Lord kept drawing his attention to this young ginger haired man and he felt such a burden for him as he was preaching and whenever the meeting was over they were going out and the evangelist felt constrained to take the young man by the hand and he said to him young man what about you getting saved what about you coming to the Lord and the young man pulled his hand out and he said I've plenty of time and the evangelist said what if you haven't what if you haven't and he went on out the next day the mother and daughter were sitting in the kitchen a large open area where there was glass around the kitchen and they could see out to the farmyard and there they were sitting doing whatever they were doing in the kitchen and suddenly a flash of light seemed like lightning to come right through the kitchen and they looked out and they ran they saw the young man lying in the yard he had been working with electrical equipment and he was caught with a current and the spark of light went shining through and when they ran out his body was shaking and the daughter went forward to put her hand and the mother pulled her hand back she said don't touch him he was as dead as a doodoo and he didn't realize that the last night was the last call see the Holy Spirit moved on the preacher and said what about tonight I have plenty of time you may not I want to tell you tonight you're just the right age to die and I guarantee you go around any cemetery in any town or village you'll find somebody lying in that grave and they're just the same age as you a divine departure you know one time a young man during the ministry of the late great DL Moody was a great American evangelist he had heard the voice of God the pull of God but boy he had his sights set on making money he had the world at his fingertips and he didn't want God to intrude and invade in upon it they thought when I become an old man I'll turn to God I'll get God into my life I'll get my soul sorted out but I want to enjoy sin enjoy the world I don't want to be held back or hampered in by the Bible or the people of God or Jesus and so he listened to the evangelist in his youth but he said some more convenient season I'll call and he did well in business he put God to the side and he he did well he got a business he got a mill running and and the mill was making him a fortune and a number of years passed by and he started started to turn down in health the money was rolling in they called the evangelist to his house whenever the evangelist came to point him and talk to him to the about the Lord and hopefully point him to the Lord he came over beside him and he sat down with an open Bible beside the man's bed as he was coming toward the end of the journey and the evangelist was talking and eventually said be quiet be quiet thought he was hallucinating he said I see Jesus in the corner of the room and he's talking the evangelist said what is he saying to you he said I can't hear him the mill the mills running too high my dear friend you can have a divine departure a divine departure thank God not everybody closes the door on the Lord there are those who open it and if you're to open the door and become a real Christian my dear friend you'll have to open it personally no man can redeem his brother God has no grandchildren you'll not be saved because your mom and dad were saved you'll not get in because your granny your granddad was saved you've got to come yourself personally to the Lord Jesus it's a very personal thing you've not only to come personally but you've to come willingly willingly you see friends to let the Lord Jesus come in the devil's got to go out on one occasion a little girl was telling the story of a dream that she'd had in the dream the Lord Jesus was knocking at the door she pulled at the door opening it and said Jesus I want you to come in but she couldn't get the door open sufficiently to let him in and she desperately wanted him in but she couldn't get him in and eventually she said Jesus I can't get you in he said is there anything behind the door and she looked down and there was a big bag and written across it was Jesus said you've got to be willing to move sin and then I can come in I want to tell you if you want to be sealed you've got to say goodbye to sin you've got to turn from your sin you've got to forsake it the Bible says he that covereth his sin shall not prosper but whoso confesseth and forsaketh it shall have mercy the Bible says as far as the east is from the west so far have you removed our transgressions from us you see all the sin that you have committed physically in your body the sin that you were born with that you inherited the sin that you have committed in your mind all that sins gonna face you someday it's gonna face you my dear friends if you're in this meeting tonight and you're not a Christian I want to say that I wouldn't change places with you for one second of time I don't care how wealthy you are I don't care how influential you are I don't care how important you are I wouldn't change places with you with an unsaved soul for one second you know why there's four simple reasons because in front of you you have got something to face it's called the great white throne judgment when God's gonna open the books and you're gonna watch a review and it's not gonna be like Eamon Andrews this is your life telling you all the lovely things everybody thought you do it's gonna be the sin you committed it's gonna be the things that nobody else knew about God's gonna pull that all out someday and you wish you weren't there my dear friends listen for all who get to the great white throne judgment it will be a relief for them to get into the lake of fire because Jesus isn't going to be making mild that day he's going to be the judge of the living and the dead and there's no mercy at the great white throne because that's in front of you that's why I wouldn't change places with that's in front of you because behind you you have maybe got 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 years of sin unforgiven it's all still held against you oh you have forgot it but God hasn't for the Bible says God required that which is past you don't even think about it anymore but God knows all about it and it's as clear in God's mind and as clear in his books as though it just happened that's why I wouldn't change places with you because there's a great white throne in front of you because there's all your sin behind you and because there's an angry God above you for the Bible says God is angry with the wicked every day you might have felt it but God's angry with you do you know why God's angry with you because he has provided salvation through his son and you ignored him today you break his law you disregard his word you disregard his son you blaspheme his name and yet you live with it as though impunity as though there's nothing going to happen to you as though you were God Almighty yourself God's angry with you every day that's why I wouldn't change places with you because you have a great white throne in front of you you've all your sin behind you you have an angry God above you and you have a burning hell beneath you you're walking a tightrope and listen at any moment that tightrope could break and you'd be in hell and before rigor mortis would set into your body or the blood would stop flowing around your bloodstream my friend your soul would be in hell that quick oh you look the picture of health but inside there's a dead soul and tonight as you sit in this meeting there is a battle for your soul there are holy angels the Lord himself is working for your salvation but there are dark devils and the prince of darkness works for to retain you because the devil has one ambition for you you better believe it he is an ambition for you and this is it that you'll wake in the belly of hell you know why because God hates the devil hates God but he can't touch God he's weaker than God he can't touch the Lord Jesus he can't touch the Holy Spirit they're God but what he has chosen to do is attack that which is the chief of God's creation man the devil knows himself that he's going to the lake of fire he knows his angels are going he knows his demons are going with him and he wants as many men and I want to tell you the devil has no holidays you'll not find the devil laying up in the Bahamas in July he's working and you say well I don't believe that well you're entitled not to believe that but if you die and waking up in hell you remember this meeting and in the fear and terror and horrors of hell you remember I was warned about this that fella told me that my dear friend listen you've got to be willing to say goodbye to your sin but you say preacher but but you know I mean there's things I do in my life there's sins there's habits there's things nobody knows about I can't stop them I can't break them I know that I know that but I want to tell you that there's somebody who's stronger than sin there's somebody who's stronger than the devil and his name is Jesus and the Bible says as many as received Jesus to them God gives power that's the thing you need power to become a son or a daughter of God you've got to come willingly and my dear friend listen you've got to come swiftly today if you hear his voice harden not your heart you see God speaking to some of you I could point out people tonight in this meeting God speaking to you God speaking to you but you could harden your heart and the devil says inside your skin he said don't listen to that don't don't don't you be going down that route you've got so much potential in your life you know take on God and later on you're not gonna die young you've got all your life in front of you the Bible says the devil was a liar from the beginning I want to tell you there's another voice as well and you'll know it you know it inside you there's another voice and the voice is saying everything that preacher saying is true everything in your conscience it's right my sin will have to be accounted for the God of the earth will judge sin Jesus is the remedy I do need to come to him I need to get rid of this sin and there's a pool a pool for your soul you need to come on to Jesus side the Bible says behold now is the accepted time now is the day of salvation finally friends there's not only a call in the text and there's not only a choice in the text but there's a certainty in the text I stand at the door and knock if any man hear my voice and open the door I will come in I remember 25 years ago sitting in a tent mission in Kilimanjaro when I as a teenager asked the Lord Jesus to save me and he came in and I got a certainty I got what the Bible calls the witness of the spirit and one day I'll be in heaven one day I'll be with the Lord Jesus one day faith will give way to sight because the Lord Jesus saved me that night I have a certainty about my soul I want to tell you friend if you don't know where you're going to go when you die it's most probable that you're going to hell the only people who be in heaven are the people who know that they're going they're the only people that be there the ones who know that they're going because when you receive Jesus you receive assurance and a witness I remember a number of years ago a young woman who had been a Roman Catholic nun in the meetings she came I don't know what she expected initially she thought I was there just to leave the meetings and then she hadn't been in meetings in a so-called Protestant Church before but she came along and the Lord started to speak to her and one night she stayed behind to talk to me and my wife and she said you know I never slept last night I spent all night reading the Bible she said I was through the nunnery or whatever you want to call it she said I was through all that I've been faithful to the church I've done all was asked but she said I have no peace no assurance don't know where I stand but she says you know God's speaking to me and I brought her to this text and said behold I stand at the door and not I said Elizabeth do you know what that means she says I do it means that the Lord Jesus is standing at my life and he wants in said that's exactly right you've got it the Lord Jesus wants to come into your life I said it says behold I stand at the door not if any man hear my voice and open the door Elizabeth do you hear the Lord's voice and she said something that was so beautiful I never forgot it she said he's breaking down the door in other words he's knocking so loud he so wants in I sense he's breaking down the door and I said well have you received him have you let him in no why not Elizabeth I'm afraid what are you afraid of why would you be afraid of the Lord Jesus why would you be afraid to let the Lord Jesus come into your life what harm will he do what will he do on you my friends I can say tonight what a wonderful change in my life has been run since Jesus came into my heart I have peace in my soul for which long I had sought since Jesus came into my heart any blessing I have ever had in my life anything that was worth any value anything that brought me hope anything that brought me peace contentment it all comes from Jesus all from Jesus and any true peace and true joy and any purity and any holiness and anything that's true it all has come from Jesus why would you keep me I said Elizabeth do you want to ask him in yes and in the most simple little prayer she prayed Lord I'm a sinner I have broke your laws and I'm guilty but I'm so sorry for my sin and Lord Jesus I turn away from my sin and I now open the door of my heart and my life to you come in Lord Jesus and save me now and make me your child my dear friends whenever she looked up I never needed to even ask has anything happened because if you look down the road tonight on the way home you'll be able to tell who's in the house and who's not because when you see the lights coming through the window you know that the lights on there's somebody there and when the Lord Jesus comes into a life that has been held and controlled by the devil and darkness and sin and when Jesus comes in the light shines through the windows and you can see it in the eyes and she said he's in I can't explain it I don't understand that but I just know that he's in I recently did a mission in Port-au-Prince a little lady well into her 70s another little Roman Catholic lady came every night one night she stayed behind she said I would love to be saved but I'm a Roman Catholic I said that's no problem whether you're a Roman Catholic or a roaming Protestant it doesn't matter the Lord has come to seek and save that which is lost whatever roaming type you're like it doesn't matter he'll save you and that little lady prayed the same prayer and my she looked up and she said I have peace 75 years in the church 75 years of devotion and then Jesus comes my friend tonight listen this lovely Lord Jesus he stands at the door and he wants to save you but you must open the door will you open the door tonight will you let him in let's bow in prayer together there's nobody somebody here tonight as we draw to a close and we say I'm not a Christian but preacher God is speaking to me tonight and I want to get saved I know what if to give up and I'm willing and I want to become a Christian friend I can't save you but if God is speaking to you tonight and you want to be saved and you're willing to pay the price and to give up your sin and come to him this is for your benefit not mine I want you to pray this prayer to the Lord from your heart dear Lord Jesus I realize that I'm a sinner and I have broken your law and I'm guilty I'm really sorry for my sin and I turn from it with all my heart and I invite you Lord Jesus to come into my life just now I open the door wide to you now come in Lord Jesus and save my soul thank you Lord Jesus for coming in and saving me help me now to live for you and to live the life that you want me to live and help me to serve you all the days of my life I ask it in Jesus name amen
