Sermon Summary
Michael Koulianos emphasizes the vital role of the Holy Spirit in revealing Jesus to believers and transforming them into His likeness. He explains that God's primary goal is not just to use us but to shape our character to reflect Christ, which often involves enduring trials and long suffering. The Holy Spirit is described as the Spirit of the Father and the Spirit of Jesus, guiding and teaching us in truth, and helping us navigate life's challenges. Koulianos encourages the congregation to rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance and to foster a deep relationship with Him, as He is essential for understanding truth and living a Christ-like life.
Sermon Transcription
All right, could I have that chair there for a minute? Thank you Lord. I want to give you a few scriptures. I'm going to sit today just because it just kind of seems to fit where we're going to go together this morning. Before I go there, I want to give you a few scriptures in line with the Holy Spirit. Say this out loud, the Holy Spirit reveals Jesus to me. This is His chief objective. All right, say this out loud, according to Romans chapter 8, God's desire is to conform me into the image of His Son. That is God's goal. You got it. Say this, the Holy Spirit reveals Jesus to my heart, to my mind, to my body, and makes me more like Jesus. All right, you can stop repeating me or this will take twice as long. Joking, it's awesome. Before God's desire is to put us on platforms and use us, it is His desire to make us like His Son. Because He loves His Son, and His Son is perfect, and there is no one like His Son. So this is the Lord's chief objective. When you get this, it makes it much easier to endure trials. Did you know long suffering is valuable to the Lord? Who here knows what long suffering is? It means to suffer a long time. The Lord can use it. I said the Lord can use it. It is actually a characteristic of the Lord. Calvary was not a quick process. Neither was the whipping post, neither was the mockery, neither was Pilate's court, neither was Herod's court, neither was the night in prison in Caiaphas' dungeon. All of these were slow drips. And forging the character of the Lord in us is a slow drip process. It is the Holy Spirit through the Scriptures and through fellowshipping with each other that this process takes place. But before the Lord is into using us and putting us before the masses, His main goal is to make me and you like Jesus. Amen. All right, now we are going to hit machine gun rapid fire, and then I want to go somewhere with you as a family. Number one. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the Father. Now we have talked about the Holy Spirit now for four weeks. This would be the fifth. And we talked about how He is God, and we also have addressed the love of the Holy Spirit. Now I want to talk to you about His different characteristics and different roles. He is the Spirit of the Father. That's Matthew 10.20. For it is not you who will speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Say, Amen. John 3.34. Write all these down. I want to equip you. I want you to meditate on these, and then we are going to go back to it next week. John 3.34, For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure. That is John 3.34. John 15.26, When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth, listen, who proceeded from the Father, He will testify about me. John 15.26, This is Jesus saying He proceeded from the Father. He is the Spirit of truth, so it is impossible to know truth outside the Holy Spirit. I want to say that very clearly. You can agree with doctrine and still not know truth. Do you understand? The Pharisees did not know experientially truth when He stood in front of them, yet they were well aware of the ink and parchment. Does that make sense? No Holy Spirit, no truth. If you want a truthful church, we have to be a Holy Spirit church and a church of the Scriptures. Okay? Because remember what Jesus said when He rebuked the Pharisees asking about the resurrection. He basically touched on two things. Number one, He said, You don't know the power of God nor the Scriptures. He said, You don't understand these two. So to really be a church of truth, we need to be a church of the presence of the Spirit and a church of the Scriptures. So He's the Spirit of the Father. Amen? I'm going to give you about ten next week, but I'm going to give you about three or four in each of these departments or categories as we go on. Number two, He's the Spirit of Jesus. That's Luke 23, 46, and John 15, 26. Again, it is also Acts 16, 7 where the Scriptures say, But after they came to Mesia, they were trying to go to Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them. I've heard people say that that was not the Holy Spirit. It was the Spirit of Jesus. Not true. This is the Holy Spirit here. He is the Spirit of the Father and the Spirit of Jesus. Say this out loud. The Holy Spirit is the agent or person of the Godhead working on the earth today. Don't say this. The Father is in heaven. Jesus is enthroned at His right hand. The Holy Spirit is on the earth revealing the Father and Jesus. Of course, they are present because they are one. But it is the Holy Spirit who is at work revealing Jesus to the glory of the Father. All right? Say amen. Talk to me a little bit. All right. The Holy Spirit is your teacher. That is Isaiah 11, 2. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him. The Spirit of counsel, say counsel, strength, the Spirit of knowledge, and the fear of the Lord. So here we see counsel, strength, and knowledge. All of these point to Him as my teacher. Let me help you here. Who you don't want teaching you right now is the world. That was better than your reaction. And very timely. You don't know how many people I talk to and they say, I don't know who to believe. Should I do this? Should I not? Who is lying? Who is telling the truth? What do they have up their sleeve? What agenda is at work here? You know, all this stuff. And you get innocent people who just want to be all right and they don't know who to believe. Well, that is the hour we are living in because of the Spirit of Antichrist who is actually the Spirit of deception. Well, more than ever, we need a teacher. We can trust the Holy Spirit. You need to know where to go, where not to go, who to listen to, who not to listen to, when to say yes, when to say no, when to buy Michael that PGA Tour gift card, or not. I'm joking. I don't need any more. I've got a bunch of them. Luke 2 26. Listen to this. This is speaking of Simeon. It had been revealed to him, Simeon, by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Simeon, an old man who had given himself to fasting and prayer, is in the temple of the Lord, and the Holy Spirit revealed to Simeon that he would see Jesus. So here we see the Holy Spirit teaching Simeon and guiding him toward the Lord Jesus. Let me help you here. This is how you know it is the Holy Spirit at work, one of the ways, and the most important way. Is He leading you to Jesus? That will produce less cosmic believers and more believers who shine, who are filled with love and forgiveness and wash feet and are tender and humble. The Holy Spirit. Amen? So He's the teacher. Number three, He is the guide. He is the guide. Luke 4 41. I hope you're just taking notes. This is good, good meat. Luke 4 chapter 1. Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit into the wilderness. Who led Jesus into the wilderness? Say it out loud. Here's a question. How would the second person of the Godhead, the Son, be willing to be led by the Holy Spirit if the Holy Spirit were not God Himself? Does that make sense? Peter was not leading Jesus around. That would have been a wild one. It would have been much more chaotic than had John been leading Jesus. John the Beloved. John would have said, let's just stay right here, Lord. Just love this intimacy. Let me just lay right here on your chest. Peter would be like, give me a sword. I want to take out Caiaphas. Let me lead you there. That wasn't happening. Jesus was led of no one but the Father and the Spirit. This speaks to the divinity of the Spirit. The question is this. How much more should we embrace the Holy Spirit as our guide if He guided Jesus? Acts 15.28. It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials. So this is what we call the great meeting of the apostles. It really changed history. Acts 15. There were some in the church saying you must be circumcised. There were others saying no, you should not. You are saved through the grace of God by faith. No, absolutely not. And here you hear the language. I want you to hear how close they would have been to the Holy Spirit for them to even utter these words. It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us. That's intimacy as a people. May that be our portion as well. No, really, may that be our portion as well. May we be able to gather as a family in God's presence and go, this seems right according to the Spirit. May our teams be able to know where the meeting should go according to the Spirit. Does this make sense to you? What we should do next, what city we should go to next, where we should not go. This is what it looks like to have the Holy Spirit as your guide. Amen? All right, I'm going to stop there and then I just want to have a quick family talk with you. And let me just pray for our friends watching from around the world. Father, in Jesus' name, let your glory and presence fill those houses. Play with me church. And before we go, Lord, clothe every person watching with the glory of the Lord. Let your power fall in the prisons, Lord. Use those sons and daughters of the Lord in those jails that are watching. And let a revival break forth in there, Lord. Let holiness reign there. Lord, I thank you for people who are being healed even right now in their homes and coming to Jesus. In Jesus' name, amen, amen.
