[A’chor]

Achor signifies ’trouble,’ and was the place where Achan was stoned for having troubled Israel by taking the accursed thing. Jos 7:26. The valley was between Jericho and Ai, on the border of the tribe of Judah. Identified with Wady Kelt 31° 50’ N, 35° 24’ E. It will be a door of hope to Israel - putting away evil from among themselves, national self-judgement - in the future when they call to mind that it was there that God’s judgement began to fall on them, followed by blessing: so the tribulation of the latter day will usher in blessing. Hos 2:15; Isa 65:10.
