Psalms 36:1-12

Psalms 36 Structure - Psalms 36:1-4 describe the character of the wicked. In contract, Psalms 36:5-9 describe God’s character. The Psalm concludes with Psalms 36:10-12 giving a plea for God to deliver him from the wicked. Psalms 36:1 (To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD.) The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes. Psalms 36:1 — “that there is no fear of God before his eyes” - Comments - This part of the verse is quoted in Romans 3:18. Romans 3:18, “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Psalms 36:7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. Psalms 36:7 — “the shadow of thy wings” - Comments - In the tabernacle, the mercy seat of God’s abiding place in the Holy of Holies was overshadowed by the wings of two cherubims. Note: Psalms 91:1, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
