2 Kings 7:1-20

2 Kings 7:3 And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die? 2 Kings 7:3 — Comments - Jewish tradition says that Gehazi and his three sons were these four lepers that delivered the city of Samaria. “Now there were four leprous men - 47a_17#47a_17— R. Johanan said: This refers to Gehazi and his three sons.”[61] [61] Babylonian Talmud: Tractate Sotah, Folio 47a, trans. I. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.” This view is supported by the fact that in the next chapter, Gehazi is standing before the king (2 Kings 8:4). We know that no leper would stand serving in the court of the king. 2 Kings 8:4, “And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.” 2 Kings 7:6 For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us. 2 Kings 7:6 — “to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host” - Comments - This was the army of the Lord going forth to fight (2 Samuel 5:24, 2 Kings 6:17). 2 Samuel 5:24, “And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.” 2 Kings 6:17, “And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.”
