Joshua 23

Joshua 23:2

ALL Israel] That is to say, for all their elders, and heads, &c. as it is expounded in the words following.

Joshua 23:4

that remain] That is, as yet unconquered, which the people of Israel by Gods command were bound to root out by warre.

Joshua 23:7

come not among] 1: e. Have no familiarity with them, nor make marriages with them, as 5: 12.

nor cause to swear] 1: e. Let not the Judges admit an oath, which any shall swear by their idols. Deuteronomy 12:3.

Joshua 23:8

unto this day] 1: e. Since under my conduct, you came into the land of Canaan.

Joshua 23:12

go back] That is, back-slide from God and his true worship.

Joshua 23:13

scourges] Alluding to the manner of old times, when the sides of offenders were scourged. Ecclesiastes 30:12. 42. 5.

in your eyes] 1: e. A continuall grief and vexation unto you.

Joshua 23:14

I am going] 1: e. I am ready to die according to the course of nature, or my death neer approacheth. So 1 Kings 2:2. Hebrews 9:27.

in all your hearts] 1: e. You know most certainly.

Joshua 23:15

all evill things] To wit, which he hath threatned if you transgresse his law.
