1 Chronicles 13:1

ANd David, &c.] After David was setled in his kingdom, had taken Zion, and built his city, he thinks of bringing in the ark thither: whereby he manifests his piety to God, his desire of Gods presence, and blessing accompanying the same.

consulted, &c.] Because it was a great solemn work, he adviseth with others how it may most solemnly be done.

1 Chronicles 13:2

If it seem good, &c.] Unlesse you can shew good cause to the contrary, and that it is not agreeable to Gods will.

let us send abroad] Heb. let us break forth and send.

that are left] For the Philistines had slain and driven many away.

in their cities and suburbs] Heb. in the cities of their suburbs.

1 Chronicles 13:3

bring again] Heb. bring about.

to us] Into the great city of the kingdom.

we enquired not] Nor our subjects. For in Sauls time the ark was but in a private place, 1 Samuel 7:1-2. And the publike worship of God was much neglected.

1 Chronicles 13:4

was right, &c.] It seemed good and right to them.

1 Chronicles 13:5

David gathered all Israel together] 1 Sam. 7. 1, 2. 2 Samuel 6:2.

from Shihor, &c.] From south to north. See Joshua 13:3. and the notes on 1 Kings 4:21.

Kirjath-jearim] Here the ark had abode a long time, 1 Samuel 7:2.

Baalah] Joshua 15:9.

between the cheubims] See the notes on 2 Kings 19:15. This and the verses following to the end of this chapter are recorded almost, word for word, in 2 Samuel 6:2, &c.

carried the ark] Heb. made the ark to ride.

1 Chronicles 13:8

singing] Heb. songs.

trumpets] Or, cornets, 2 Samuel 6:5.

1 Chronicles 13:9

Chidon] Called Nachon, 2 Samuel 6:6.

stumbled] Or, shook it.

1 Chronicles 13:10

because he put his hand to the ark] Numbers 4:15.

Perez-uzza] That is, The breach of Ʋzza.

brought] Heb. removed.

the house of Obed-edom] As chap. 26. 5.
