Joshua 18:3 Summary
This verse is about Joshua asking the Israelites why they are waiting to take the land that the Lord has given them. The Israelites had been given a great promise, but they were not moving forward to take possession of it. This is like when we know what the Lord wants us to do, but we are afraid or hesitant to take the next step, as seen in Joshua 1:6. We can learn from Joshua's example to trust in the Lord's promise and take action, just like the Israelites were supposed to do in Deuteronomy 1:8.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did Joshua ask the Israelites how long they would put off entering and possessing the land?
Joshua asked this question because the Israelites had been given the land by the Lord, the God of their fathers, but they were delaying in fully occupying it, as seen in Joshua 18:3, which is reminiscent of the Lord's promise in Deuteronomy 1:8.
What was the Israelites' responsibility in possessing the land?
The Israelites were responsible for trusting in the Lord's promise and taking action to occupy the land, as stated in Joshua 1:6, where the Lord commands them to be strong and courageous and to take possession of the land.
How does this verse relate to the Israelites' lack of faith in the past?
This verse relates to the Israelites' lack of faith in the past, as seen in Numbers 13:31, where they refused to enter the land due to fear, and now Joshua is urging them to trust in the Lord and take possession of the land.
What is the significance of the Lord being the God of the Israelites' fathers?
The Lord being the God of the Israelites' fathers emphasizes the covenant relationship between the Lord and the Israelites, as seen in Exodus 3:15, where the Lord identifies Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
