He gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities. He stored food in each city from the fields around that city.
And he gathered all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field which was around every city, he laid up in the same.
And all the abundance of grain was laid up in every city.
As Joseph supervised them, his helpers collected one-fifth of all the grain that was produced during those years, and stored it in the cities. In each city, he had his helpers store up the grain that was grown in the fields that surrounded that city.
So for those 7 years, Joseph told the Egypt people to get food from the farms and take it into the towns. And the people did what Joseph said. Everywhere in Egypt country, the people got food from the farms, and they took that food into the towns that were near the farms. Then they put that food into big sheds, to keep it safe.

46Now Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph left Pharaoh’s presence and traveled throughout the land of Egypt.
47During the seven years of abundance, the land brought forth bountifully.
48During those seven years, Joseph collected all the excess food in the land of Egypt and stored it in the cities. In every city he laid up the food from the fields around it.

Genesis 41:48 Summary
Genesis 41:48 tells us that Joseph collected and stored excess food in the cities of Egypt during the seven years of abundance, to prepare for the future famine. This shows us the importance of planning and preparation, and trusting in God's sovereignty, as we see in Psalm 37:3-7. By storing the food, Joseph was able to save many lives, including his own family, and fulfill God's plan, as stated in Genesis 50:20. This verse teaches us to be wise and responsible with the resources we have, and to trust in God's plan for our lives, just like Joseph did.
