Ezekiel 41:7
Ezekiel 41:7 in Multiple Translations
The side rooms surrounding the temple widened at each successive level, because the structure surrounding the temple ascended by stages corresponding to the narrowing of the temple wall as it rose upward. And so a stairway went up from the lowest story to the highest, through the middle one.
And there was an enlarging, and a winding about still upward to the side chambers: for the winding about of the house went still upward round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house was still upward, and so increased from the lowest chamber to the highest by the midst.
And the side-chambers were broader as they encompassed the house higher and higher; for the encompassing of the house went higher and higher round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house continued upward; and so one went up from the lowest chamber to the highest by the middle chamber.
The side-rooms became wider as they went higher up the house, by the amount of the space let into the wall up round about the house, because of the inlets in the house; and one went up from the lowest floor by steps to the middle, and from the middle to the upper floor.
The side rooms around the Temple became wider at each higher level, because as the structure around the Temple went up the Temple wall grew narrower A stairway provided access from the bottom story to the top, going through the middle level.
And it was large and went rounde mounting vpwarde to the chambers: for the staire of the house was mounting vpwarde, rounde about the house: therefore the house was larger vpward: so they went vp from the lowest chamber to the highest by the middes.
And a broad place and a turning place still upwards [are] to the side-chambers, for the turning round of the house [is] still upwards all round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house [is] upwards, and so the lower one goeth up unto the higher by the midst.
The side rooms were wider on the higher levels, because the walls were narrower at the higher levels. Therefore the width of the house increased upward; and so one went up from the lowest level to the highest through the middle level.
And there was an enlarging, and a winding about still upward to the side-chambers: for the winding about of the house went still upward around the house; therefore the breadth of the house was still upward, and so increased from the lowest chamber to the highest by the midst.
And there was a broad passage round about, going up by winding stairs, and it led into the upper loft of the temple all round: therefore was the temple broader in the higher parts: and so from the lower parts they went to the higher by the midst.
Each of those side rooms was wider than the one below it. The most narrow rooms were built first, at the bottom. Then a wider set of rooms was built over it, and the widest set was at the top. A set of stairs was built from the lowest level through the middle level to the highest level.

Context — Outside the Temple
7The side rooms surrounding the temple widened at each successive level, because the structure surrounding the temple ascended by stages corresponding to the narrowing of the temple wall as it rose upward. And so a stairway went up from the lowest story to the highest, through the middle one.

Ezekiel 41:7 Summary
[The side rooms in the temple got wider as you went up, which was a special design to help people move from one level to the next. This reminds us that God has a plan for our lives, and He gives us the strength to move forward, one step at a time, just like the Israelites were given manna in Exodus 16:4. The stairway in the temple also shows us that God wants us to come closer to Him, and He provides a way for us to do that, as Jesus said in John 14:6. By following God's plan and trusting in His goodness, we can grow in our faith and become more like Christ, as described in Romans 8:29.]
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the widening of the side rooms at each level signify in Ezekiel 41:7?
The widening of the side rooms at each level signifies the intentional design of the temple, allowing for a stairway to connect the lowest to the highest level, as stated in Ezekiel 41:7, and reflects the precision of God's plan, similar to the detailed instructions given in Exodus 25:9.
How does the structure surrounding the temple relate to the narrowing of the temple wall in Ezekiel 41:7?
The structure surrounding the temple was designed to ascend by stages, corresponding to the narrowing of the temple wall as it rose upward, demonstrating a thoughtful and intentional architectural plan, much like the tabernacle's design in Exodus 26:15-30.
What is the significance of the stairway mentioned in Ezekiel 41:7?
The stairway represents a path of ascent, connecting the lowest to the highest level, symbolizing spiritual progression and access to the higher places of God's presence, as seen in Jacob's ladder in Genesis 28:12 and the heavenly stairway in John 1:51.
How does the description of the temple in Ezekiel 41:7 relate to the New Testament concept of the body of Christ?
The temple, as a physical structure, foreshadows the spiritual body of Christ, where each member is connected and supported, with Christ as the cornerstone, as described in Ephesians 2:20-22 and 1 Corinthians 12:12-27.
Reflection Questions
- What does the concept of 'ascending by stages' in Ezekiel 41:7 teach me about my own spiritual journey and growth in Christ?
- How can I apply the principle of intentional design, as seen in the temple's architecture, to my own life and ministry?
- What are the 'higher places' in my spiritual walk that I am being called to ascend to, and how can I cooperate with God's plan to get there?
- In what ways can I, as a member of the body of Christ, support and connect with others to form a cohesive and beautiful spiritual structure, like the temple in Ezekiel 41:7?
