Context — Outside the Temple
6The side rooms were arranged one above another in three levels of thirty rooms each. There were ledges all around the wall of the temple to serve as supports for the side rooms, so that the supports would not be fastened into the wall of the temple itself.
7The side rooms surrounding the temple widened at each successive level, because the structure surrounding the temple ascended by stages corresponding to the narrowing of the temple wall as it rose upward. And so a stairway went up from the lowest story to the highest, through the middle one. 8I saw that the temple had a raised base all around it, forming the foundation of the side rooms. It was the full length of a rod, six long cubits.Cross References

This design shows God's attention to detail and care for the temple, as seen in 1 Kings 6:5-10. By studying the temple's design, we can learn more about God's character and how we can reflect His beauty and majesty in our own lives, as encouraged in 1 Chronicles 28:19.]
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of the side rooms in Ezekiel 41:6?
The side rooms in Ezekiel 41:6 were likely used for storage and as living quarters for the priests, as seen in 1 Kings 6:5-10, where similar side rooms were built in Solomon's temple to house the priests and store temple items.
Why were the supports for the side rooms not fastened into the wall of the temple itself?
The supports were not fastened into the wall of the temple to maintain its structural integrity and to prevent any potential damage, as the temple was a sacred place, and any alterations to its walls could be seen as desecration, similar to the instructions given in Deuteronomy 12:3-4 regarding the destruction of pagan altars.
How many side rooms were there in total according to Ezekiel 41:6?
There were three levels of thirty rooms each, totaling ninety side rooms, which demonstrates the grandeur and complexity of the temple's design, as also seen in 1 Kings 6:5-10.
What can we learn from the temple's design in Ezekiel 41:6 about God's character?
The temple's design, including the side rooms, showcases God's attention to detail and His desire for order and beauty, as seen in Psalm 93:5, which states that God's temple is beautiful and majestic, and in 1 Chronicles 28:19, where David says that God's temple plan was given to him in writing by God's hand.
Reflection Questions
- What does the intricate design of the temple, including the side rooms, reveal about God's nature and character?
- How can I apply the principles of careful planning and attention to detail, as seen in the temple's design, to my own life and service to God?
- What role do you think the side rooms played in the daily life of the priests and the functioning of the temple, and what can we learn from this about our own roles in the body of Christ?
- In what ways can I, like the temple, be a beautiful and majestic reflection of God's glory, as stated in Psalm 93:5, and how can I strive to maintain this reflection in my own life?
