Ezekiel 34:26 Summary

This verse means that God wants to bless His people and the places where they live, and He will send them what they need at the right time, as seen in Ezekiel 34:26. He wants to make them a source of joy and prosperity to those around them, just like He promised in Deuteronomy 28:1-14. This is a result of His love and care for His people, and it's a reminder that He is always with us and wants to provide for us, as stated in Matthew 6:33 and Jeremiah 29:11. By trusting in God's promises, we can experience His blessings and be a blessing to others.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean for God to make His people a blessing?

When God makes His people a blessing, He is referring to the fact that they will be a source of joy, prosperity, and spiritual growth to those around them, as seen in Ezekiel 34:26, and this is a result of His covenant with them, as stated in Deuteronomy 28:1-14 and Jeremiah 31:31-34.

What are the 'showers of blessing' that God will send?

The 'showers of blessing' in Ezekiel 34:26 refer to the spiritual and physical provision that God will give to His people, similar to the promise in Leviticus 26:4 and Deuteronomy 11:14, where God promises to provide for the needs of His people and bring them prosperity.

How does this verse relate to the concept of God's hill or mountain?

In Ezekiel 34:26, God's hill or mountain is a reference to Mount Zion, which is a symbol of God's presence and kingdom, as seen in Isaiah 2:2-3 and Micah 4:1-2, and God's promise to bless the places around it is a promise to extend His blessing to all areas where His people dwell.

What is the significance of God sending showers 'in season'?

The phrase 'in season' in Ezekiel 34:26 indicates that God's blessings will come at the right time, similar to the promise in Psalm 1:3, where the righteous are blessed and prosper at the right time, and this is a demonstration of God's sovereignty and care for His people, as stated in Romans 8:28 and Jeremiah 29:11.

Reflection Questions

  1. What are some ways that I can be a blessing to those around me, and how can I reflect God's character in my daily life?
  2. How can I trust God to provide for my needs, even when I don't see the provision yet, and what does it mean to wait on Him 'in season'?
  3. What does it mean for me to dwell 'around God's hill', and how can I cultivate a deeper sense of God's presence in my life?
  4. In what ways can I experience the 'showers of blessing' that God promises, and how can I share those blessings with others?

Gill's Exposition on Ezekiel 34:26

And I will make them, and the places round about my hill, a blessing,.... Alluding either to the city of Jerusalem, and the places adjacent; or to the temple, and the houses about it.

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown on Ezekiel 34:26

And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.

Matthew Poole's Commentary on Ezekiel 34:26

I will make them, my returned captives, who were looked upon as cursed, reproached, and hated. The places round about; all the country. My hill; Jerusalem, or the temple, Zion, which is called holy hill, . A blessing; very prosperous, that men shall report them to be in a blessed condition, or a blessing to others among whom they dwell, or a pattern of blessing others, whom we shall wish like to them, whom we wish greatest good to. I will cause the shower to come down in his season; their land shall be most fruitful in the products of it, corn, wine, oil, &c., and all these blessed to them; whereas formerly their blessings were so cursed that they were no blessings, now they shall be blessed, and so be double blessings to them.

Trapp's Commentary on Ezekiel 34:26

Ezekiel 34:26 And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.Ver. 26. And I will make them a blessing.] By blessing them with all spiritual benedictions in Christ Jesus, so that they shall be felices et faecundi, happy and fruitful. There shall be showers of blessing.] Or, Very large showers of divine doctrine, and of righteousness.

Ellicott's Commentary on Ezekiel 34:26

(26) Bound about my hill.—“My hill” is Zion. (Comp. the similar figurative language in Isaiah 31:4.) The centre of the old theocracy is always spoken of in Scripture as also the centre from which goes forth the new covenant of salvation, and this was historically fulfilled in the coming of Christ and the cradling of His Church in the Jewish Church. The continuity of the Church was preserved quite as fully through the Christian era as through the Babylonian captivity, quite as large a number of the Jews having embraced Christianity as ever returned from the exile in Chaldea.

Adam Clarke's Commentary on Ezekiel 34:26

Verse 26. The shower to come down] The Holy Spirit's influence. There shall be showers of blessing.] Light, life, joy, peace, and power shall be manifest in all the assemblies of Christ's people.
