Exodus 25:26 Summary

[Exodus 25:26 tells us about the four gold rings that were made for the table in the tabernacle. These rings were important because they were used to hold the poles that carried the table, kind of like how we use handles to carry things today. Just like the table was special and needed to be carried carefully, we are special to God and He wants to carry us through life's challenges, as seen in Psalm 23:4 where He is our shepherd. The gold rings also remind us that God values and cares for us, and wants us to be prepared to serve Him, just like the servants in Matthew 25:1-13 who were ready for their master's return.]

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did God instruct Moses to make four gold rings for the table?

The four gold rings were to be used as holders for the poles to carry the table, as mentioned in Exodus 25:27, demonstrating God's attention to detail and care for the transportation of the table, much like He cares for us as seen in Exodus 19:4 where He bore the Israelites on eagles' wings.

What is the significance of the gold rings in Exodus 25:26?

The gold rings represent the value and importance God placed on the table and its purpose in the tabernacle, much like the preciousness of our relationship with Him as described in 1 Peter 2:9 where we are a royal priesthood.

How do the instructions for the table relate to our lives as Christians?

The detailed instructions for the table, including the gold rings, demonstrate God's desire for order and beauty in our lives, just as He desires our hearts to be pure and beautiful, as seen in Matthew 5:8 where the pure in heart will see God.

What can we learn from the specific location of the gold rings 'close to the rim' as mentioned in Exodus 25:27?

The placement of the gold rings close to the rim teaches us about the importance of being prepared to serve and be used by God, having our spiritual 'rings' in place, ready to be used for His purposes, much like the servants in Matthew 25:1-13 who were prepared for the master's return.

Reflection Questions

  1. As I reflect on the gold rings and the table, what are the 'rings' in my life that God is using to carry me through challenging times?
  2. How can I apply the principle of being prepared to serve, like the gold rings, in my daily life and relationships?
  3. What are some areas in my life where God is calling me to add 'gold' - to make them more precious and beautiful for His sake?
  4. In what ways can I demonstrate my love and care for God's 'table' - His church and His people - just as the Israelites were instructed to care for the table in the tabernacle?

Gill's Exposition on Exodus 25:26

And thou shalt make for it four rings of gold,.... As the ark had, and for the same use as the rings of that were, though whether cast, as they were, is not said: and put the rings in the four

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown on Exodus 25:26

And thou shalt make unto it a border of an hand breadth round about, and thou shalt make a golden crown to the border thereof round about. No JFB commentary on these verses.

Trapp's Commentary on Exodus 25:26

Exodus 25:26 And thou shalt make for it four rings of gold, and put the rings in the four corners that [are] on the four feet thereof.Ver. 26. Four rings of gold.]

Ellicott's Commentary on Exodus 25:26

(26) Four rings.—Compare Exodus 25:12. The table, like the ark, would have to be carried from place to place. Though it was less sacred than the ark, still provision was made for carrying it by means of staves and rings. The four corners that are on the four feet.—Rather, that are at the four feet. Not the top corners of the table, i.e., but the bottom corners. The table, like the ark, was, when carried, to be elevated above the shoulders of the bearers. So we see it borne on the Arch of Titus.

Cambridge Bible on Exodus 25:26

26. on (or at) the four corners of the four feet] The word for ‘feet’ is the one which ordinarily denotes the foot of a man or animal. The legs, it is probable, terminated in claws.

Whedon's Commentary on Exodus 25:26

26-28. Rings… staves — These are exhibited in the cut, and serve the same purpose as the like in the ark Exodus 25:12-15.
