26Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.”
27So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea returned to its normal state. As the Egyptians were retreating, the LORD swept them into the sea. 28The waters flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had chased the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.Cross References

Exodus 14:26 Summary
In Exodus 14:26, God tells Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea, which will cause the waters to flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots. This verse shows us that God is all-powerful and in control of creation, just like He was when He created the world in Genesis 1:1. It also reminds us that God will judge those who oppose Him and His people, as seen in Psalm 2:1-4. By trusting and obeying God, just like Moses did, we can experience His power and provision in our own lives, even in the midst of challenging circumstances.
Frequently Asked Questions
What was the purpose of God telling Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea?
The purpose was to demonstrate God's power and control over creation, as seen in Exodus 14:26, and to bring judgment upon the Egyptians who were pursuing the Israelites, much like God's judgment in Genesis 19:24-25.
How did the Egyptians respond to the miracle of the parting of the sea?
The Egyptians were thrown into confusion and tried to flee, realizing that God was fighting for the Israelites, as stated in Exodus 14:25, and ultimately met their demise as the waters flowed back over them, as described in Exodus 14:28.
What can we learn from Moses' obedience to God's command in this verse?
Moses' obedience demonstrates the importance of trusting and following God's instructions, even when they seem impossible or unclear, as seen in Exodus 14:26, and is reminiscent of Abraham's faith in Genesis 12:4.
How does this event relate to the broader story of salvation in the Bible?
The parting of the sea and the destruction of the Egyptian army foreshadow the ultimate salvation and redemption that God would provide through Jesus Christ, as described in Isaiah 43:2 and 1 Corinthians 10:1-2.
