Context — The Choice of Life or Death
18I declare to you today that you will surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.
19I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, so that you and your descendants may live, 20and that you may love the LORD your God, obey Him, and hold fast to Him. For He is your life, and He will prolong your life in the land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”Cross References

Deuteronomy 30:18 Summary
This verse is a warning from God to His people that if they disobey Him, they will face serious consequences, including spiritual and possibly physical death. However, as seen in Deuteronomy 30:16, if they choose to obey God's commands, they will experience life and blessings. It's like a parent warning their child of the dangers of disobedience, but also offering a way to safety and happiness, as seen in Proverbs 10:27. We can apply this to our own lives by choosing to obey God's commands and following His ways, as stated in Psalm 119:105, which says 'Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path'
