Context — Gehazi’s Greed and Leprosy
25When Gehazi went in and stood before his master, Elisha asked him, “Gehazi, where have you been?” “Your servant did not go anywhere,” he replied.
26But Elisha questioned him, “Did not my spirit go with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time to accept money and clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, menservants and maidservants? 27Therefore, the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and your descendants forever!” And as Gehazi left his presence, he was leprous—as white as snow.Cross References

2 Kings 5:25 Summary
[This verse shows how Gehazi tried to deceive Elisha by saying he didn't go anywhere, but Elisha knew the truth. This reminds us that honesty is important, as seen in Colossians 3:9-10, where we are told to put away falsehood and speak the truth. We should always try to be truthful, even if it's hard, because God sees and knows everything (Psalm 139:1-6). By being honest, we can build trust and strong relationships with others, just like Elisha and the prophets in 2 Kings 2:3-7.]
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did Elisha ask Gehazi where he had been, when it seems like he already knew?
Elisha asked this question to give Gehazi an opportunity to confess his sin, as seen in 2 Kings 5:25. This is similar to how God asked Adam and Eve where they were in Genesis 3:9, giving them a chance to come clean about their disobedience.
What can we learn from Gehazi's response to Elisha's question?
Gehazi's reply, 'Your servant did not go anywhere,' shows that he was trying to deceive Elisha, which is a form of lying. This reminds us of the importance of honesty, as emphasized in Colossians 3:9-10, where we are told to put away falsehood and speak the truth.
How does this verse relate to the concept of accountability?
This verse highlights the idea that we are accountable to God and to others for our actions. As seen in Romans 14:12, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God, and Elisha's question to Gehazi serves as a reminder of this accountability.
What can we learn from Elisha's approach to confronting Gehazi's sin?
Elisha's approach shows that he was more concerned with Gehazi's heart and spiritual well-being than with simply punishing him. This is similar to how Jesus approached the woman caught in adultery in John 8:1-11, where He showed compassion and encouraged her to sin no more.
