Luke 22

Worsley

1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, called the passover. 2 And the chief priests and scribes were consulting how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people. 3 Then entred Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, of the twelve. 4 And he went and conferred with the chief priests and the captains, how he might betray Him unto them. 5 And they were glad and agreed to give him money: 6 and he accepted and sought an opportunity to betray Him unto them in the absence of the multitude. 7 The day of unleavened bread being come, on which the paschal-lamb was to be slain, 8 sent Peter and John, saying, } 9 And they said unto Him, Where wouldst thou have us prepare 10 And He said unto them, 11 Master inquireth Where is the room, in which I may eat the passover with my disciples?} 12 ready.} 13 And they went and found as He had told them; and prepared the passover. 14 And when the hour was come, He sat down and the twelve apostles with Him. 15 And He said unto them, 17 And taking the cup He gave thanks and said, among yourselves.} 18 of the fruit of the vine, till the kingdom of God shall come.} 19 And He took bread, and gave thanks and brake and gave to them, saying, given for you; do this in remembrance of me:} 20 as also the cup after supper, saying, the new covenant in my blood, shed for you.} 21 at table with me:} 22 determined; but wo to that man by whom He is betrayed.} 23 And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do it. 24 And there was also a dispute among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest: 25 but He said unto them, 26 not so: but let the greatest among you be as the younger; and he that presides as he that serveth.} 27 not he that sitteth at table? but I am among you as one that serveth.} 31 And the Lord said, you that he may sift as wheat:} 33 And he said unto Him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee both to prison and to death. 34 But He replied, 35 And He said unto them, } and they said, Nothing. 36 Then said He unto them, bag likewise; and let him that has no sword, sell his garment and buy } 37 written must yet be accomplished in me, “And He was numbered with transgressors,” for the things concerning me are an end.} 38 And they said, Lord, behold here two swords. And He said unto them, 39 And He came out and went, as He used to do, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed Him. 40 And when He was at the place, He said unto them, 41 And when He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s-cast, He kneeled down and prayed saying, 43 And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven strengthening Him. 44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was like clotted blood falling down upon the ground. 45 And when He rose up from prayer, He came to his disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow; 46 and He said to them, 47 And while He was yet speaking, behold a multitude; and he called Judas, one of the twelve came before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss Him: 48 and Jesus said to him, 49 But when they about Him saw what would follow, they said to Him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword? 50 And one of them smote the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear: 51 but Jesus said, and He touched his ear and healed him. 52 Then said Jesus to the chief priests, and officers of the temple, and elders, that were come to Him, 53 hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.} 54 Then they took and led Him and brought Him to the high priest’s. And Peter followed at a distance. 55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and sat down together, Peter sat down among them: 56 and a -maid seeing him as he sat by the fire, and looking hard at him, said, This was also with Him: 57 But he denied Him, saying, Woman, I do not know Him. 58 And after a little another seeing him said, And thou art of them: but Peter said, Man, I am not. 59 And about an hour after, another confidently affirmed saying, In truth this also was with Him; for he is a Galilean too: but Peter answered, 60 Man, I know not what thou sayst. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, the cock crew. 61 And the Lord turned and looked upon Peter; and Peter called to mind the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, 62 And Peter went out and wept bitterly. 63 And the men that laid hold on Jesus, insulted and abused Him; 64 and when they had blind-folded Him, they struck Him on the face, and asked Him, saying, Prophesy who it was that smote thee. 65 And many other things spake they against Him, blaspheming 66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people, and chief-priests, and scribes, assembled together, and ordered Him up into their council: 67 and said Art thou the Messiah? tell us. And He said unto them, 68 question ye would not answer me, nor discharge me.} 69 hereafter shall the Son of man be seated on the right of the power of God.} 70 And they all said, 71 And He said unto them, I am. And they said, What need have we of any farther evidence? when we ourselves have from his own mouth?
