Psalms 8

1 O LORD [Yehovah, our sovereign God], our Lord [Master, Ruler], how majestic [excellent, noble] is Your name [reputation, character] in all the earth [world, creation]! You have set [established, placed] Your glory [honor, splendor] above [upon, higher than] the heavens [the sky, the heavens above]. word study 2 From the mouths [lips] of children [babes] and infants [sucklings] You have ordained [founded, established] praise [strength] on account of [because of] Your adversaries [enemies], to silence [still] the enemy [foe] and avenger [self-avenger, one who seeks revenge]. word study 3 When I behold [consider, gaze upon] Your heavens [the celestial realm, the sky], the work [creation, handiwork] of Your fingers [power, skill], the moon [the lunar body, a beacon in the night] and the stars [the celestial bodies, a multitude of lights], which You have set [ordained, established] in place— word study 4 what is man [a human being, mortal] that You are mindful [think of, remember] of him, or the son of man [humanity, mankind] that You care for [visit, look after] him? word study 5 You made him [a little lower than God, but little lower than the angels] a little lower than the angels [or God]; You crowned him with [great] glory [and majesty, honor and worship] and honor [majesty]. word study 6 You made him [to have dominion] ruler of the works [all creation, everything] of Your hands [power, authority]; You have placed [put, given] everything [all things, the universe] under his feet [in subjection, under his control]: word study 7 all [the entire flock of] sheep and [domesticated] oxen, and even [including the wild] the beasts of the field [the untamed creatures of the wilderness], word study 8 the birds [of the heavens, in the sky] of the air and the fish [whatever passes through] of the sea, all [everything, whatsoever] that swim [pass through, go through] the paths [deep waters, ocean] of the seas. word study 9 O LORD [our supreme Master], our Lord [sovereign Ruler], how majestic [excellent, noble] is Your name [reputation, magnificent] in all the earth [the world, creation]! word study
