Psalms 53

BSA

1 The fool [one who is morally deficient, lacking wisdom] says in his heart, “There is no God [Elohim, the supreme Creator, divine Being].” They are corrupt [morally decayed, rotten]; their ways are vile [abominable, wicked, detestable]. There is no one who does good [what is right, just, and righteous]. word study 2 God [Elohim, the supreme Being] looks down from heaven [the spiritual realm] upon the sons of men [humanity, the children of men] to see if any [someone, anyone] understand [have wisdom, are discerning], if any [someone, anyone] seek [search after, desire to know] God [the one supreme God, Elohim]. word study 3 All have turned away [gone back, fallen away], they have together become corrupt [filthy, morally depraved]; there is no one who does good [what is right, anything good], not even one [no one, none]. word study 4 Will the workers [those who practice, those who do] of iniquity [wickedness, evil] never learn [come to know, understand]? They devour [eat up, consume] my people [God’s children, the faithful] like bread [as if it were food, without care]; they refuse [decline, reject] to call upon [invoke, pray to] God [the Almighty, the Creator]. word study 5 There they are, overwhelmed with dread [in great fear, completely terrified], where there was [no cause for fear, no reason to be afraid] nothing to fear. For God [Elohim, the one supreme God] has scattered the bones [broken, shattered] of those who besieged [encamped against, fought against] you. You put them to shame [to confusion, to disgrace], for God [the Almighty, the all-powerful] has despised [rejected, cast off] them. word study 6 Oh, that the salvation [rescue, deliverance from sin] of Israel would come from Zion [the city of God, the holy mountain]! When God [Elohim, the supreme Deliverer] restores [brings back, redeems] His captive people [those in bondage, held prisoner], let Jacob [the descendants of Jacob, the nation of Israel] rejoice [be glad, celebrate], let Israel [the people of God, the chosen nation] be glad [full of joy, happy]! word study
