Psalms 52

BSA

1 Why do you boast [take pride, glory in] of evil [mischief, wrongdoing], O mighty man [powerful one, strong leader]? The loving devotion [kindness, goodness] of God [the supreme Creator, loving Father] endures [lasts, remains] all day long [continually, daily]. word study 2 Your tongue [plots to make people suffer, deviseth] devises destruction [mischiefs, very wickedness] like a sharpened razor [sharp blade, cutting words], O worker [one who works] of deceit [deceitfully, with cunning and guile]. word study 3 You love [have a strong affection for] evil [bad, morally wrong] more than good [what is right, righteous], falsehood [lying, deceit] more than speaking [telling, proclaiming] truth [what is real, accurate]. Selah [pause, reflect] word study 4 You love [have a strong desire for] every word [that may destroy, devouring] that devours [destroys, hurts people], O [you who are] deceitful [false, treacherous] tongue [language, speech]. word study 5 Surely God [the Almighty, All-Powerful] will bring you down to everlasting [eternal, never-ending] ruin; He will snatch you up [take you away, seize you] and tear you away [pluck you out, uproot you] from your tent [dwelling place, home]; He will uproot you [root you out, destroy you] from the land of the living [the earth, the world of the living]. Selah [a pause, a moment of reflection] word study 6 The righteous [upright, those who do right] will see [behold, perceive] and fear [reverence, be in awe]; they will mock [laugh at, scorn] the evildoer [the wicked, those who do wrong], saying [and utter these words, declaring], word study 7 “Look at the man [who rejected God’s help] who did not make God [his strength, refuge] his refuge, but trusted [had faith, relied] in the abundance [multitude, wealth] of his wealth [riches, possessions] and strengthened [empowered, secured] himself by [in, through] destruction [wickedness, mischief].” word study 8 But I am like [a green, flourishing] an olive tree flourishing in the house [temple, dwelling place] of God [the loving Father]; I trust [have faith, rely] in the loving devotion [mercy, kindness, lovingkindness] of God [the Provider] forever [to the age, eternally] and ever [always, continually]. word study 9 I will praise You [without end] forever, because You [God, Elohim] have done it [accomplished Your purpose]. I will wait on [trust in, hope in] Your name [Your character, reputation]— for it is [truly, indeed] good [excellent, kind]— in the presence [before, among] of Your saints [faithful ones, holy people]. word study
