1 Give ear [listen carefully, pay attention] to my words [meditation, thoughts], O LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God]; consider [understand, give thought to] my groaning [heart-searchings, distress]. word study 2 Attend [listen carefully, pay attention] to the sound [voice, cry] of my cry [meditation, quiet complaint], my King [sovereign ruler, Lord] and my God [Yehovah, the Lord], for to You [as my Lord and Savior] I pray [make my request, offer my petition]. word study 3 In the morning [at daybreak, when the day begins], O LORD [my King, my God], You hear [listen carefully to, heed] my voice [my cry, my prayer]; at daybreak [early in the morning] I lay [direct, order] my plea [my prayer, my request] before You [toward You, to You] and wait [look up, watch expectantly] in expectation [with hope, for your response]. word study 4 For You [the Lord] are not a God [Elohim, the supreme Ruler] who delights [takes pleasure, has joy] in wickedness [evil, wrongdoing]; no evil [wrongdoing, sin] can dwell [sojourn, inhabit] with You [in Your presence, near You]. word study 5 The boastful [proud, arrogant] cannot stand in Your [God’s, divine] presence; You hate [abhor, detest] all workers [those who practice, perpetrate] of iniquity [wickedness, evil]. word study 6 You destroy [bring to an end, abolish] those who tell lies [speak falsehood, deceive]; the LORD [the Supreme Ruler, Yehovah] abhors [hates, detests] the man of bloodshed [bloody, violent] and deceit [dishonesty, cunning]. word study 7 But I will enter [come into the presence of] Your house [temple, sacred dwelling] by the abundance [multitude, full measure] of Your loving devotion [lovingkindness, trustworthy love]; in reverence [fear, awe] I will bow down [worship, give worship] toward Your holy [sacred, set apart] temple [sacred place]. word study 8 Lead me, O LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God], in Your righteousness [having God’s nature, being just] because of my enemies [those who oppose me, adversaries]; make straight [clear, direct] Your way [path, journey] before me [in my presence, before my face]. word study 9 For not a word [nothing they say can be trusted] they speak can be trusted; destruction [very wickedness, corruption] lies within them. Their throats [neck, voice] are open graves [sepulchers, places of death]; their tongues [language, words] practice deceit [flatter, tell lies, smooth words]. word study 10 Declare them guilty [hold them accountable], O God [Elohim, the supreme Judge]; let them fall [be brought down] by their own devices [evil plans, counsels]. Drive them out [cast them away, thrust them out] for their many transgressions [rebellions, sins], for they have rebelled [turned against, resisted] against You [in defiance of Your authority]. word study 11 But let all who take refuge [put their trust, go to for protection] in You [God, Elohim, the supreme Protector] rejoice; let them ever shout for joy [sing joyfully, be glad with cries of joy]. May You shelter [defend, cover] them, that those who love [are devoted to, have affection for] Your name [Your character, reputation] may rejoice [be joyful, exult] in You. word study 12 For surely You, O LORD [the supreme Sovereign, Yehovah], bless [bestow divine favor upon] the righteous [those who live uprightly, in right standing with God]; You surround [compass, encircle] them with the shield [a buckler, a protective barrier] of Your favor [lovingkindness, graciousness]. word study
