Psalms 16
BSA1 Preserve me [keep me safe, protect me], O God [Elohim, the supreme power], for [because, since] in You [in Your presence, with You] I take refuge [seek protection, trust, put my faith]. word study 2 I said [spoken from the heart] to the LORD [Yehovah, my Master], “You are my Lord [Adonai, my Sovereign]; apart from You [without Your presence] I have no good thing [nothing beneficial, no welfare].” word study 3 As for the saints [holy ones, set apart] in the land [earth, territory], they are the excellence [truly great, noble] in whom [specifically them, the excellent] all my delight [pleasure, joy] resides [is found, abides]. word study 4 Sorrows [injury, pain, or sorrow] will multiply [to increase or grow] to those who chase [hasten after, run after] other [different, foreign] gods. I will not [absent, non-existent] pour out [to pour, to offer] their libations [drink offerings] of blood [the liquid that flows through the body], or speak [to lift, to raise] their names [a person’s identity, honor] with my lips [the edge or border of something, language]. word study 5 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] is my chosen [assigned, allotted] portion [inheritance, share] and my cup; You [as my Savior] have made my lot [allotted part, destiny] secure [stable, upheld]. word study 6 The lines [cord, measured area] of my boundary have fallen [to fall, been given] in pleasant [sweet, delightful] places; surely my inheritance [heritage, gift from God] is delightful [beautiful, polished to perfection]. word study 7 I will bless [praise, honor] the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] who counsels [advises, guides] me; even at night [in the night seasons, during darkness] my conscience [heart, mind] instructs [disciplines, teaches] me. word study 8 I have set [continually placed, intentionally positioned] the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God] always [at all times, continually] before me [in my presence, as my guide]. Because He [as my Helper, my Rock] is at my right hand [beside me, as my Protector], I will not be shaken [moved, disturbed, or wavering]. word study 9 Therefore [thus, in confirmation] my heart [the seat of feelings, will, and intellect] is glad [rejoices, full of joy] and my tongue [my voice, speech] rejoices [exults, praises]; my body [flesh, physical being] also [in addition, too] will dwell [live, rest] securely [in safety, with confidence, in hope]. word study 10 For [because of your covenant promise] You will not abandon [forsake or loosen] my soul [living being, essence] to Sheol [the underworld, grave], nor will You let [give or allow] Your Holy One [pious, faithful one] see [look upon or experience] decay [corruption, destruction]. word study 11 You have made known [revealed, shown] to me the path [way, journey] of life [eternal, spiritual existence]; You will fill me with joy [gladness, delight] in Your presence [face, before you], with eternal [perpetual, everlasting] pleasures [delights, satisfactions] at Your right hand [side, in your favor]. word study
