Psalms 14

BSA

1 The fool [one who acts stupidly or wickedly] says in his heart [the seat of feelings, will, and intellect], “There is no [nothing, not existing] God [Elohim, the supreme Creator].” They are corrupt [ruined, destroyed]; their acts [deeds, works] are vile [abominable, detestable]. There is no one who does [makes, performs] good [what is pleasant, beneficial]. word study 2 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] looks down [gazes, overlooks] from heaven [the visible universe, the abode of God] upon the sons [descendants, children] of men [Adam, humanity] to see [to look after, provide for] if any [there are those who] understand [are prudent, wise], if any [there are those who] seek [ask, worship] God [Elohim, the one supreme God]. word study 3 All [the whole, everything] have turned away [gone aside, departed], they have together [in unity, as one] become corrupt [filthy, morally depraved]; there is no one [none, nothing] who does [makes, performs] good [what is pleasant, beneficial], not even [also, too] one [a single person]. word study 4 Will the workers [those who habitually practice] of iniquity [evil, wickedness] never learn [gain knowledge, understand]? They devour [consume, eat up] my people [nation, those belonging to God] like bread [food, sustenance]; they refuse [decline, reject] to call [cry out, invoke] upon the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God]. word study 5 There [in that place, at that moment] they are, overwhelmed with [great, intense] dread [fear, terror], for [because, since] God [Elohim, the supreme Judge] is in the company [generation, midst] of the righteous [just, upright, those made right with God]. word study 6 You sinners [those who do evil, the wicked] frustrate [put to shame, dismiss] the plans [counsel, advice] of the oppressed [the poor, afflicted ones], yet the LORD [Yehovah, God] is their shelter [refuge, safe place]. word study 7 Oh, that the salvation [deliverance from trouble, rescue] of Israel [the descendants of Jacob] would come from Zion [the city of God, Jerusalem]! When the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] restores [returns, brings back] His captive people [those held in bondage], let Jacob [the father of the twelve tribes] rejoice [be glad, celebrate], let Israel [God’s chosen people] be glad [rejoice, experience joy]! word study
