1 I love [have affection for, deeply cherish] the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], for [because, since] He has heard [listened to, given attention to] my voice [sound, cry]— my appeal [earnest prayer, supplication] for mercy [help, favor]. word study 2 Because [for this reason, since] He has inclined [bent down, stretched out] His ear [to hear, to listen] to me, I will call [cry out, pray] on Him as long as I live [all my days, throughout my lifetime]. word study 3 The ropes [cords, snares] of death [the state of being dead, eternal separation] entangled me; the anguish [pains, terrors] of Sheol [the underworld, the grave] overcame me; I was confronted by trouble [distress, sorrow] and sorrow [grief]. word study 4 Then I called [cried out, invoked] on the name [identity, character] of the LORD [Yehovah]: “O LORD [Yehovah], deliver [rescue, save] my soul [living being, essence of life]!” word study 5 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] is gracious [full of mercy, showing love and care] and righteous [just, fair in all His ways]; our God [Elohim, the supreme God] is full of compassion [merciful, having pity and kindness]. word study 6 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] preserves [to keep, watch over, protect] the simplehearted [easily influenced, naive, or weak]; I was helpless [brought low, languishing], and He saved [delivered, freed from danger] me. word study 7 Return [to a state of peace, come back] to your rest [a place of quietness, peaceful home], O my soul [the essence of a person, living being], for the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] has been good [dealt bountifully, treated well] to you [upon you, in your life]. word study 8 For [because of Your great love] You have delivered [rescued, saved] my soul [living being, essence] from death [separation from God, eternal darkness], my eyes [sources of vision, understanding] from tears [sorrow, weeping], my feet [path, journey] from stumbling [falling, losing balance, overthrowing]. word study 9 I will walk [go, habitually proceed] before the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] in the land [earth, territory] of the living [where people are still alive, having life]. word study 10 I believed [had faith, trusted], therefore I said [spoke, confessed], “I am [exist, have being] greatly [exceedingly, very] afflicted [troubled, oppressed, humbled] [sorely, deeply].” word study 11 In my alarm [fear, distress, being startled] I said, “All men [humanity, people, every person] are liars [deceivers, dishonest, untruthful]!” word study 12 How [in what way, what means] can I repay [return, give back] the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] for all [every, the entirety of] His goodness [benefits, acts of kindness] to me [toward me, upon me]? word study 13 I will lift [take, offer] the cup of salvation [deliverance, victory] and call [cry out, invoke] on the name [reputation, character] of the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God]. word study 14 I will fulfill [pay, complete, make] my vows [promises, solemn oaths] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] in the presence [before, in front of] of all [everything, every person] His people [nation, congregation, those belonging to Him]. word study 15 Precious [valuable, highly esteemed] in the sight [eye, gaze] of the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] is the death [passing away, end of life] of His saints [pious ones, faithful followers, holy ones]. word study 16 Truly, O [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] LORD, I am Your [faithful] servant; I am Your servant, the son [descendant, offspring] of Your maidservant [female slave, handmaid]; You have [loosed, opened] broken my [restraining] bonds [chains, fetters]. word study 17 I will offer [sacrifice, give as an act of worship] to You a sacrifice [offering, gift to God] of thanksgiving [praise, gratitude] and call [cry out, invoke] on the name [character, reputation] of the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord of all]. word study 18 I will fulfill [pay, complete] my vows [promises, solemn oaths] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] in the presence [before, in front of] of all [everything, every person] His people [nation], word study 19 in the courts [surrounding areas, villages] of the LORD’s [Yehovah, the covenant God] house [dwelling place, temple], in your midst [center, among], O Jerusalem [city of peace].
