BSA

1 On the eighth [following the seven-day ordination] day Moses [the Israelite leader, mediator] summoned [called out to, invited] Aaron [the first high priest] and his sons [descendants, family] and the [respected, elderly] elders of Israel [God’s chosen people, Jacob’s descendants]. word study 2 He said to Aaron, “Take for yourself a young bull [calf, a son of the herd] for a sin offering [to atone for sin, a purification] and a ram [a strong male sheep] for a burnt offering [a sacrifice completely consumed by fire], both without blemish [perfect, unblemished], and present them before the LORD [in His presence, to His face]. word study 3 Then speak [to instruct, command] to the Israelites [sons of Israel, descendants of Jacob] and say, ‘Take [to get, acquire] a male goat [he-goat] for a sin offering [a sacrifice to atone for sin], a calf [a young male, nearly grown] and a lamb [a young ram, old enough to butt]—both [together, as one] a year old [in their first year, at the prime of life] and without blemish [unblemished, perfect, without defect]—for a burnt offering [a step to the altar, a sacrifice completely consumed by fire], word study 4 an ox [cattle, like a bull] and a ram [a strong male sheep] for a peace offering [a voluntary sacrifice to show thanks, expressing gratitude] to sacrifice [to slaughter, offering to God] before the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], and a grain offering [a gift of flour, a meal offering] mixed [blended, combined] with oil [olive oil]. For today [this day, a specific time] the LORD [Yehovah] will appear [be seen, reveal Himself] to you.’” word study 5 So they took [received, got] what Moses [the Israelite leader] had commanded [given orders, appointed] to the front [presence, face] of the Tent [tabernacle, nomad’s home] of Meeting [appointed time, sacred season], and the whole [all, everything] congregation [gathering, crowd] drew near [approached, came close] and stood [stood firm, remained] before [in the presence of] the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God]. word study 6 And Moses [the Israelite leader] said, “This [the thing, this matter] is what the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] has commanded [given orders, appointed] you to do, so that the glory [great honor, splendor] of the LORD [the supreme God] may appear [be seen, visible] to you [toward you, in your presence].” word study 7 Then Moses [the leader of the Israelites] said to Aaron, “Approach [draw near, come to] the altar [the place of sacrifice] and sacrifice [offer, present] your sin offering [a gift to atone for sin, to make amends] and your burnt offering [a completely consumed sacrifice, a total dedication] to make atonement [to cover, to reconcile, to restore] for yourself and for the people [the nation, the community]. And sacrifice [offer, present] the people’s offering [a gift from the community, an oblation] to make atonement [to cover, to reconcile, to restore] for them, as the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] has commanded [given orders, instructed].” word study 8 So Aaron [the first high priest, Moses’ brother] approached [drew near, came close to] the altar [a place of sacrifice, where offerings are made to God] and slaughtered [killed, immolated] the calf [a young male, nearly grown into a steer] as a sin [guilt, punishment for sin] offering [a sacrifice, atonement] for himself [to atone for his own sins, for his own guilt]. word study 9 The sons [descendants, offspring] of Aaron [the first high priest] brought the blood [the liquid that flows through the body] to him, and he dipped [immersed, inserted] his finger [a toe] in the blood and applied [put, placed] it to the horns [corners, protrusions] of the altar [a place of sacrifice, worship]. And he poured out [drained, emptied] the rest of the blood at the base [foundation, foot] of the altar [a place of sacrifice]. word study 10 On the altar [place of sacrifice] he burned [made a perfume, offered] the fat [richest part], the kidneys, and the lobe [caudate lobe, flap] of the liver [heaviest organ] from the sin [guilt, punishment] offering [sacrifice, atonement], as the LORD [Yehovah, God] had commanded [given orders, appointed] Moses. word study 11 But he burned up [with fire, completely consumed] the flesh [the body, living thing] and the hide [skin, leather] outside [beyond the boundary, in a separate area] the camp [encampment, group of people]. word study 12 Then Aaron [the first high priest, brother of Moses] slaughtered [killed, immolated] the burnt offering [a step or stairs, often used to describe the ascent to the altar for a burnt offering]. His sons [descendants, those who follow in his footsteps] brought him the blood [the liquid that flows through the body, essential for life], and he sprinkled [scattered, poured] it on all sides [around, surrounding] of the altar [a place of sacrifice, where offerings are made to God]. word study 13 They brought him the burnt offering [victim, sacrificed animal] piece by piece [in its order, with the pieces thereof], including the head [the topmost part of the body], and he burned [made perfume, offered] them on [upon, above] the altar [place of sacrifice, where offerings are made to God]. word study 14 He washed [with water, purified] the entrails [inner parts, midst] and the legs [from knee to ankle] and burned [offered, made perfume for] them atop [upon, above] the burnt offering [step of sacrifice, ascent to God] on the altar [place of sacrifice, worship]. word study 15 Aaron then presented [brought near, offered] the people’s [nation, community] offering. He took [got, received] the male goat [hairy, wild goat] for the people’s [nation, community] sin [guilt, punishment] offering, slaughtered [killed, massacred] it, and offered [presented, sacrificed] it for sin [atonement, forgiveness] like [similar to, in the same way as] the first [primary, initial] one. word study 16 He presented [brought near, approached] the burnt offering [animal for complete consumption, a step to the altar] and offered it according to the ordinance [manner, justice, God’s righteous judgment]. word study 17 Next he presented [offered, brought near] the grain offering [meal offering, gift to God], took a handful [filled his palm] of it, and burned [made perfume, offered as incense] it on the altar [place of sacrifice] in addition to [beside, apart from] the morning’s [of the break of day] burnt offering [sacrifice, ascent to God]. word study 18 Then he slaughtered [killed, immolated] the ox [cattle, bullock] and the ram [a strong male sheep] as the people’s [for the nation of Israel, on behalf of the community] peace offering [a sacrifice to show thanks, a voluntary gift]. His sons brought him the blood [the liquid essential for life], and he sprinkled [scattered, poured] it on all sides [around, surrounding] of the altar [a place of sacrifice, where offerings are made to God]. word study 19 They also brought the fat portions [richest and best parts] from the ox [cattle, bulls] and the ram [strong male sheep]—the fat tail [a delicacy], the fat covering [a protective layer, omentum] the entrails, the kidneys [essential organs], and the lobe [flap, caudate lobe] of the liver [heaviest organ]word study 20 and placed these on the breasts [the front of the animal]. Aaron burned the fat portions [the richest or best part] on the altar [a place of sacrifice, where offerings are made to God], word study 21 but he waved [shook to and from, elevated] the breasts [the front of the animal, as in sacrifices] and the right thigh [leg, lower leg] as a wave offering [a specific type of offering, a portion of the sacrifice waved before God] before the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], as Moses [the Israelite leader, born to Amram and Jochebed] had commanded [given orders, appointed]. word study 22 Aaron [the first high priest] lifted up his hands [in worship and blessing] toward the people [the nation of Israel] and blessed them [praising and honoring God for them]. And having made [completed, finished] the sin offering [to atone for guilt and punishment], the burnt offering [a step to the altar for purification], and the peace offering [a voluntary sacrifice to show thanks], he stepped down [descended from the altar, went to a lower place]. word study 23 Moses [the Israelite leader] and Aaron [the first high priest] then entered [went into, approached] the Tent [tabernacle, sacred dwelling] of Meeting [appointed gathering, sacred season]. When they came out [emerged, departed], they blessed [praised, honored] the people [nation, community], and the glory [honor, splendor] of the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] appeared [was revealed, became visible] to all [every, the entire] the people [multitude, assembly]. word study 24 Fire [from the divine presence] came out from the presence [face, before] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] and consumed [devoured, ate up] the burnt offering [a step or stairs, often used to describe the ascent to the altar] and the fat portions [the richest or best part] on the altar [a place of sacrifice, where offerings are made to God]. And when all [everything, the entirety] the people [a nation, Amaw] saw [looked after, provided for] it, they shouted [sang or shouted for joy, overcame] for joy [praise, triumph] and fell [were defeated, failed] facedown [on their faces, before God’s presence]. word study
