1 “Now this [specific, particular] is the law [instruction, guiding principle] of the guilt [trespass, offense] offering [sacrifice, atonement], which [being, in its nature] is most [extremely, supremely] holy [set apart, sacred]: word study 2 The guilt offering [offering for wrongdoing, trespass] must be slaughtered [killed, put to death] in the place [location, location of the burnt offering] where the burnt [completely consumed] offering is slaughtered, and the priest shall sprinkle [scatter, pour] its blood [symbol of life, atonement] on all sides [around, surrounding] of the altar [place of sacrifice, atonement]. word study 3 And all [every part, the entirety] the fat [the richest or best part] from it shall be offered [presented, brought near]: the fat tail [a delicacy], the fat [the best or richest part] that covers [conceals, hides from view] the entrails [the inner parts, the midst], word study 4 both kidneys [the two, a pair] with the fat [the richest part] on them near the loins [the confidence, hope], and the lobe [the flap] of the liver [the heaviest organ], which is to be removed [to turn aside] with the kidneys. word study 5 The priest [a person who serves God and leads others in worship] shall burn [make a perfume, offer as a fire-offering] them on the altar [a place of sacrifice, where offerings are made to God] as an offering [a gift, a sacrifice] made by fire to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]; it is a guilt [a trespass or offense] offering [a sacrifice to atone for wrongdoing]. word study 6 Every [all, male and female] male [referring to men or male animals] among the priests [those set apart for God’s service] may eat [consume, devour] of it [this sacred offering]. It must be eaten [consumed, partaken of] in a [the, sacred] holy [set apart, sacred] place [a location of sanctity]; it is [declared to be] most [extremely, supremely] holy [dedicated to God’s service]. word study 7 The guilt offering [offering for wrongdoing, trespass] is like the sin [punishment for sin, purification] offering; the same [one, unified] law [instruction, guiding principle] applies to both [equally, without distinction]. It belongs to the priest [spiritual leader, one who serves God] who makes atonement [covers, reconciles] with it. word study 8 As for the priest [the one who serves God, a spiritual leader] who presents [to approach or come near, to offer] a burnt offering [a step or stairs, often used to describe the ascent to the altar] for anyone [a male person or individual, a man], the hide [skin, like human skin or animal hide] of that offering [a gift, a sacrifice] belongs to him [is his own, is given to him]. word study 9 Likewise, every grain [meal] offering [gift, sacrifice] that is baked [cooked, prepared] in an oven [furnace, place of heat] or cooked [made, prepared] in a pan [saucepan, stew pan] or on a griddle [flat pan, baking pan] belongs to the priest [spiritual leader, one who serves God] who presents [offers, brings near] it, word study 10 and every grain offering [meal offering, gift to God], whether dry [barren, without oil] or mixed with oil [anointed], belongs equally [to all alike, as a shared portion] to all the sons [descendants, priests] of Aaron [the first high priest, leader of the Israelites]. word study 11 Now this [specific, particular instruction] is the law [instruction, guiding principle] of the peace offering [voluntary sacrifice, expression of gratitude] that one may present [approach, come near with intention] to the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God]: word study 12 If he offers it in thanksgiving [as a praise-offering, with gratitude], then along with the sacrifice [act of worship, gift to God] of thanksgiving [praise, worship] he shall offer unleavened cakes [flatbread, bread without yeast] mixed with olive oil [anointed, coated with richness], unleavened wafers [thin, flat bread] coated with oil [anointed, smeared with richness], and well-kneaded cakes [buns, pierced or perforated] of fine flour [pure, high-quality meal] mixed with oil [enriched, stirred with richness]. word study 13 Along with his peace offering [a voluntary sacrifice to show thanks, a way to express gratitude] of thanksgiving [praise, worship, or a song] he is to present [approach, come near, or offer] an offering [a sacrifice brought near to the altar] with cakes [buns, perforated bread] of leavened [with yeast] bread [food, especially grain]. word study 14 From the cakes he must present [as an act of worship] one portion [a part, a share] of each offering [sacrifice, gift to God] as a contribution [a gift, an oblation] to the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God]. It belongs to the priest [one who serves God, a mediator] who sprinkles [pours out, scatters] the blood [the life-giving fluid] of the peace offering [a sacrifice to express gratitude]. word study 15 The meat [flesh, body] of the sacrifice [offering to God] of his peace offering [voluntary sacrifice, expression of gratitude] of thanksgiving [praise, worship] must be eaten [consumed, devoured] on the day [24-hour period, appointed time] he offers [presents, brings near] it; none of it may be left [remaining, reserved] until [as far as, up to] morning [break of day, new beginning]. word study 16 If, however, the sacrifice [votive offering, a promise to God] he offers is a vow [a solemn promise, a pledge to God] or a freewill [voluntary, spontaneous] offering, it shall be eaten on the day [a 24-hour period, a day of consecration] he presents [brings near, offers to God] his sacrifice [an act of worship, a gift to God], but the remainder [what is left, the leftover portion] may be eaten on the next day [tomorrow, the following day]. word study 17 But any meat [flesh, body] of the sacrifice [offering to God, act of devotion] remaining [left over, to remain] until the third [third in sequence, a period of time] day must be burned [consumed with fire, set on fire] up [completely, entirely]. word study 18 If any of the meat [flesh, the body or a person] from his peace offering [a voluntary sacrifice to show thanks] is eaten [devoured, consumed] on the third [third in a sequence, a specific day] day, it will not be accepted [pleasing, approved]. It will not be credited [reckoned, imputed] to the one who presented [offered, brought near] it; it shall be an abomination [something unclean, refuse], and the one who eats [consumes, devours] of it shall bear [lift, carry] his iniquity [moral evil, sin]. word study 19 Meat [flesh, living things] that touches [comes into contact with] anything unclean [spiritually impure, defiled] must not be eaten; it is to be burned up [consumed by fire, utterly destroyed]. As for any other meat [flesh, animal sacrifice], anyone who is ceremonially clean [pure, ritually acceptable] may eat it. word study 20 But if anyone [who is defiled, having uncleanness upon them] who is unclean [impure, ceremonially defiled] eats meat [flesh, the body of an animal] from the peace offering [a voluntary sacrifice, a gift to maintain fellowship] that belongs to the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God], that person [soul, the essence of a human being] must be cut off [separated, expelled] from his people [nation, community, Amaw]. word study 21 If one touches [makes contact with, comes into physical connection with] anything unclean [impure, defiled, tainted with sin], whether human uncleanness [the uncleanness of man, moral impurity], an unclean animal [a beast that is impure, detestable], or any unclean [impure, filthy], detestable thing [abomination, something that inspires disgust], and then eats [consumes, devours] any of the meat [flesh, the sacrifice] of the peace offering [a sacrifice to maintain fellowship, a voluntary gift] that belongs to the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God], that person [soul, living being] must be cut off [separated, excluded] from his people [community, nation].” word study 22 Then the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] said [to speak, communicate, or command] to Moses [the Israelite leader, chosen by God], word study 23 “Speak [to communicate, declare] to the Israelites [sons of Israel, descendants of Jacob] and say [command, proclaim], ‘You are not to eat [consume, devour] any of the fat [the richest part] of an ox [cattle], a sheep [young sheep], or a goat [female goat]. word study 24 The fat [richest or best part] of an animal found dead [as a carcass] or mauled [torn apart] by wild beasts may be used for any other purpose [work], but you must not [absolutely not] eat [consume] it. word study 25 If anyone [whoever, any person] eats [consumes, devours] the fat [richest or best part] of an animal [beast, large quadruped mammal] from which [out of, from the source of] an offering [sacrifice, gift] made by fire [burnt offering, presented to God] may be presented [offered, brought near] to the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God], the one who eats [consumes, devours] it must be cut off [separated, destroyed] from his people [nation, community, Amaw]. word study 26 You must not [under any circumstances] eat the blood [the liquid that flows through the body] of any bird [fowl, winged creature] or animal [beast, living creature] in any of your dwellings [houses, places of residence, seats]. word study 27 If anyone [whatsoever soul, any person] eats [consumes, devours] blood [the liquid essential for life], that person [soul, living being] must be cut off [separated, expelled] from his people [nation, community, Amaw].’” word study 28 Then the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] said [to speak, to communicate] to Moses [the Israelite leader, God’s chosen servant], word study 29 “Speak [to communicate, declare] to the Israelites [sons of Israel, descendants of Jacob] and say [command, proclaim], ‘Anyone who presents [offers, brings near] a peace offering [voluntary sacrifice, gift of thanks] to the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God] must bring [offer, give] it as his sacrifice [offering, gift] to the LORD [the Lord God, Yehovah]. word study 30 With his own [open] hands he is to bring the [food, sacrifice] offerings made by fire to the [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] LORD; he shall bring the [richest or best part] fat, together with the [front of the animal, especially in sacrifices] breast, and wave the breast as a [specific type of offering, waved before God] wave offering before the [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God, in whose presence one stands] LORD. word study 31 The priest [holy servant, spiritual leader] is to burn [make perfume, offer as a sweet fragrance] the fat [richest part, choicest portion] on the altar [place of sacrifice, worship], but the breast [front, choicest part] belongs to Aaron [first high priest, leader of Israel] and his sons [descendants, spiritual heirs]. word study 32 And you are to give [as an act of worship, willingly offer] the right [referring to the stronger or more prominent side] thigh [or leg, the lower extremity] to the priest [a spiritual leader, one who serves God] as a [voluntary, freewill] contribution [a gift or offering to God] from your [personal, individual] peace offering [a sacrifice to express gratitude and fellowship with God]. word study 33 The son [a descendant, a priest] of Aaron who presents [offers, brings near] the blood [the liquid that flows through the body] and fat [the richest part, choicest portion] of the peace offering [a voluntary sacrifice, an expression of gratitude] shall have the right thigh [leg, portion] as a portion [share, allotment]. word study 34 I have taken [received, acquired] from the sons [descendants, people] of Israel [God’s chosen people, Jacob’s descendants] the breast [front, upper part] of the wave offering [elevated gift, offering presented to God] and the thigh [leg, lower extremity] of the contribution [gift, donation] of their peace offerings [sacrifices of thanksgiving, fellowship offerings], and I have given [bestowed, presented] them to Aaron [the first high priest, Moses’ brother] the priest [spiritual leader, mediator] and his sons [descendants, heirs] as a permanent [lasting, eternal] portion [share, inheritance] from the sons [people, descendants] of Israel [God’s chosen nation, Jacob’s descendants].’” word study 35 This [specific, particular] is the portion [anointing, consecrated share] of the offerings [sacrifices, food offerings] made by fire to the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God] for Aaron [the first high priest] and his sons [descendants, spiritual heirs] since the day [the specific time, the beginning] they were presented [brought near, appointed] to serve [minister, officiate] the LORD [the Lord God, Yehovah] as priests [spiritual leaders, mediators]. word study 36 On the day [of their consecration, when they were set apart] they were anointed [with sacred oil, appointed to their office], the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] commanded [gave a perpetual decree, instructed] that this be given [presented, offered] them by the sons [descendants, people] of Israel [the chosen nation, Jacob’s descendants]. It is a permanent [lasting, eternal] portion [inheritance, allotted share] for the generations [successive ages, families] to come [that will follow, in the future]. word study 37 This [is the instruction, the law] is the law of the burnt offering [a step or stairs to the altar], the grain offering [a gift or donation], the sin offering [for atonement, to cover sin], the guilt offering [for trespass, offense], the ordination offering [for setting, installing priests], and the peace offering [a voluntary sacrifice, to show thanks], word study 38 which the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] gave Moses [the Israelite leader, mediator of the covenant] on Mount Sinai [the mountain where the law was received] on the day He commanded [to give orders, appoint] the Israelites [the descendants of Jacob, God’s chosen people] to present [to approach, bring near] their offerings [sacrifices, gifts to God] to the LORD [the supreme God, ruler of all] in the Wilderness [desert, uninhabited land] of Sinai [the location of the giving of the law]. word study
