Leviticus 27

BSA

1 Then the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] said [to speak, communicate, or command] to Moses [the Israelite leader, born to Amram and Jochebed], word study 2 “Speak [to communicate, declare] to the Israelites [sons of Israel, descendants of Jacob] and say [command, proclaim] to them, ‘When someone [a man, an individual] makes [accomplishes, vows] a special [singular, wonderful] vow [promise, dedication] to the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God] involving [by, according to] the value [valuation, estimation] of persons [souls, living beings], word study 3 if the valuation [estimation, assessment of worth] concerns a male [man, adult] from twenty [a young adult age] to sixty [maturity, elder age] years of age, then your valuation [appraisal, price] shall be fifty [a specific] shekels [a unit of weight or money] of silver [precious metal, used for payment], according to the sanctuary [Holy Place, set-apart area] shekel [standard unit of measurement]. word study 4 Or if it is a female [woman, girl, or female animal], then your valuation [estimation, assessment of worth] shall be thirty [thirtieth, a unit of count] shekels [a unit of weight or money, like a coin]. word study 5 And if the person [from five years old, a child] is from five [the number five] to twenty [a multitude] years of age, then your valuation [estimate of worth, assessment] for the male [a man or boy] shall be twenty [two tens] shekels [units of weight or money], and for the female [a woman or girl] ten [a decade] shekels [a measure of value]. word study 6 Now if the person [from one month old, a young child] is from one month to five years of age, then your valuation [estimation, assessment of worth] for the male [son, male child] shall be five shekels [units of weight or money] of silver, and for the female [daughter, female child] three shekels of silver. word study 7 And if the person [is from sixty years old and upward] is sixty years of age [a senior, an elder] or older, then your valuation [estimation, assessment of worth] shall be fifteen [five plus ten, a significant quantity] shekels [a unit of weight or money, a measure of value] for the male [a man, a male person] and ten shekels [a standard unit of exchange] for the female [a woman, a female person]. word study 8 But if the one making the vow [having made a solemn promise to God] is too poor [lacking the necessary resources, unable to pay] to pay the valuation [estimated worth, appraised value], he is to present the person before the priest [the spiritual leader, mediator], who shall set the value [determine the worth, assign a price] according to what the one making the vow [the one who has promised] can afford [is able to give, has the means to pay]. word study 9 If he vows an animal [beast, large quadruped mammal] that may be brought as an offering [sacrifice, oblation] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], any such animal given to the LORD [from a portion of, as a part of devotion] shall be holy [set apart, sacred]. word study 10 He must not replace it or exchange [swap or substitute] it, either good [beneficial or pleasing] for bad [harmful or evil] or bad [unpleasant or undesirable] for good [pleasant or beneficial]. But if he does substitute [change or alter] one animal [livestock or beast] for another, both that animal and its substitute [exchange or replacement] will be holy [set apart or consecrated]. word study 11 But if the vow involves any of the [ceremonially] unclean animals [that are not permitted for sacrifice] that may not be brought as an offering [a sacrifice or gift] to the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God], the animal [beast, livestock] must be presented [stood, set] before the priest [the spiritual leader, mediator]. word study 12 The priest [the one serving God, a spiritual leader] shall set its value [determine its worth, assign a price], whether high [of great worth] or low [of little value]; as the priest [the spiritual authority] values it [estimates its worth, makes a judgment], the price [the amount to be paid, the cost] will be set [established, determined]. word study 13 If, however [in the event that, if indeed], the owner [one who has possession or control] decides to redeem [to buy back, restore] the animal, he must add [increase, give more] a fifth [one-fifth, 20 percent] to its value [worth, estimation, appraisal]. word study 14 Now if a man [a male person, individual] consecrates [sets apart, dedicates] his house [dwelling place, home] as holy [sacred, set-apart] to the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God], then the priest [one who serves God, spiritual leader] shall value [estimate, appraise] it either as good [pleasant, beneficial] or bad [evil, harmful]. The price will stand just as the priest [spiritual authority] values [evaluates, assesses] it. word study 15 But if he who [has set apart] consecrated his house [dwelling place, family home] redeems [buys back, restores] it, he must add [increase, give more] a fifth [one-fifth, 20 percent] to the assessed value [estimated worth, valuation], and it will belong [be given, become] to him. word study 16 If a man [an individual, a person] consecrates [sets apart, dedicates] to the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] a parcel [a part, a portion] of his land [field, property, inheritance], then your valuation [estimation, appraisal] shall be proportional [according to, in relation to] to the seed [offspring, crop] required for it—fifty [a specific quantity, a numerical value] shekels [a unit of weight, a measure of value] of silver [a precious metal, a form of currency] for every homer [a dry measure, about 65 gallons] of barley [a type of grain, a staple food] seed [crop, harvest]. word study 17 If [in the event that, whether] he consecrates [sets apart, dedicates] his field [land, property] during [from, at the time of] the Year of Jubilee [year of celebration], the price [valuation, worth] will stand [remain, be established] according to [based on, as determined by] your valuation [estimation, assessment]. word study 18 But if he consecrates [sets apart as holy, dedicates] his field [land, property] after the Jubilee [year of liberation, time of freedom], the priest [spiritual leader, mediator] is to calculate [reckon, estimate] the price [value, worth] in proportion to the years [period of time, seasons] left until the next Year of Jubilee [time of release, celebration], so that your valuation [appraisal, estimation] will be reduced [diminished, lowered] [made smaller, decreased in value]. word study 19 And if the one who [dedicated, set apart as holy] consecrated the field [a flat area of land used for cultivation] decides to [buy back, restore] redeem it, he must add [increase, do something again] a fifth [one-fifth, a portion] to the assessed value [the estimated worth, valuation], and it shall belong to him. word study 20 If, however, he does [or is unwilling to] not redeem [buy back, restore] the field [land, property], or if he has sold [transferred ownership of] it to another [different, separate] man, it may no longer [still, from this point on] be redeemed [bought back, freed]. word study 21 When the field [a plot of land, a cultivated area] is released [set free, comes out] in the Jubilee [a year of celebration, a time of liberation], it will become holy [set apart, consecrated], like a field [a land, a territory] devoted [dedicated, given over] to the LORD [Yehovah, the Almighty God]; it becomes the property [possession, inheritance] of the priests [those who serve God, spiritual leaders]. word study 22 Now if [under these circumstances, in this situation] a man consecrates [sets apart, dedicates] to the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] a field [a plot of land, a piece of ground] he has purchased [bought, acquired], which [specifically, namely] is not [lacking, absent] a part of his own property [inheritance, possession], word study 23 then the priest [the spiritual leader, mediator] shall calculate [reckon, estimate] for him the value [valuation, worth] up to the Year of Jubilee [a time of liberation, freedom], and the man shall pay [give, offer] the assessed value [estimated worth, appraised amount] on that day [at that specific time] as a sacred [holy, set-apart] offering [gift, sacrifice] to the LORD [Yehovah, the divine Redeemer]. word study 24 In the [year of liberation, time of freedom] Year of Jubilee [a trumpet blast] the field [land, territory] shall return [be restored, come back] to the one from whom it was bought [acquired, purchased]—the original [first, initial] owner [possessor, one who has possession] of the land [earth, ground, territory, a country]. word study 25 Every [all, each] valuation [estimation, appraisal] will be according to the [holy, set-apart] sanctuary shekel [a unit of weight or money], twenty gerahs [small weights or coins] to the shekel [a measure of value]. word study 26 But no one [no man, not a single person] may consecrate [set apart, dedicate] a firstborn [the first produced, the chief] of the livestock [animals, beasts], because a firstborn [the firstling, the premier] belongs to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]. Whether it is an ox [cattle, a bullock] or a sheep [a goat, a flock], it is the LORD’s [Yehovah’s, God’s own]. word study 27 But if it is among the unclean [ceremonially impure, defiled] animals, then he may redeem [ransom, buy back] it according to your valuation [estimated worth, appraised value] and add a fifth [one-fifth, 20 percent] of its value. If it is not redeemed [bought back, freed], then it shall be sold [given to another, transferred ownership] according to your valuation [determined worth, assessed price]. word study 28 Nothing [no thing, not a single item] that a man sets apart [devotes, consecrates] to the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] from all [everything, the entirety] he owns—whether a man [a person, an individual], an animal [a beast, a living creature], or his inherited land [his possession, his heritage]—can be sold [exchanged, transferred] or redeemed [bought back, restored]; everything [all things, the whole] so devoted [consecrated, set apart] is most holy [sacred, set apart] to the LORD [the supreme God, Yehovah]. word study 29 No person [dedicated] set apart [devoted, doomed] for destruction [to be utterly destroyed, devoted to God] may be ransomed [bought back, redeemed]; he must surely [without fail, certainly] be put to death [executed, die the death]. word study 30 Thus any tithe [a tenth part] from the land [the earth, ground], whether from the seed [offspring, descendants] of the land or the fruit [produce, harvest] of the trees, belongs to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]; it is holy [set apart, sanctified] to the LORD. word study 31 If [under certain conditions, or whether] a man [male person, individual] wishes to redeem [to buy back, to restore] part of his tithe [a tenth part], he must add [increase, do again] a fifth [one-fifth, the fifth part] to its value [worth, estimated price]. word study 32 Every [tenth part, a tithe] tenth animal from the herd [cattle, domesticated oxen] or flock [sheep, goats, or other small livestock] that passes [crosses over, transitions] under the shepherd’s rod [staff] will be [exist as, come into being] holy [set apart, sacred] to the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God]. word study 33 He must not inspect [examine carefully, investigate] whether it is good [pleasant, beneficial] or bad [evil, harmful], and he shall not make any substitution [exchange, replacement]. But if he does make a substitution [change, alter], both the animal [living creature, beast] and its substitute [exchange, replacement] shall become holy [set apart, sanctified]; they cannot be redeemed [bought back, restored].’” word study 34 These [specific, particular] are the commandments [laws, ordinances] that the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] gave [appointed, commanded] to Moses [the Israelite leader] for the Israelites [sons of Israel, descendants of Jacob] on [in the direction of, towards] Mount [a hill] Sinai [the mountain where the Law was received]. word study
