Leviticus 15
BSA1 And the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] said [to speak, communicate, or command] to Moses [the Israelite leader, born to Amram and Jochebed] and Aaron [the brother of Moses, the first high priest of the Israelites] [saying, to utter words, or to declare], word study 2 “Say [speak, communicate] to the Israelites [sons of Israel, descendants of Jacob], ‘When any man [male person, individual] has a bodily [from his flesh, physical] discharge [flow, issue, as in a continuous movement], the discharge [bodily flow, including semen or menstrual flux] is unclean [spiritually impure, defiled, because of his issue]. word study 3 This [specific, particular] uncleanness [impurity, defilement] is from his discharge [bodily flow, issue], whether his body [flesh, physical form] allows the discharge [fluid, semen] to flow [run, run with his issue] or blocks [stops, seals] it [the flow, his issue]. So his discharge [emission, flux] will bring about [cause, result in] uncleanness [impurity, ceremonial defilement]. word study 4 Any bed [where he rests, lies down] on which the man with the discharge [having a flow, an issue] lies will be unclean [defiled, contaminated], and any furniture [article, utensil] on which he sits [dwells, remains] will be unclean [foul, polluted]. word study 5 Anyone [a person, an individual] who touches [reaches out to, comes into contact with] his bed [place of rest, intimate space] must wash [cleanse, purify] his clothes [garments, outer covering] and bathe [immerse, cleanse the body] with water [the source of purification], and he will be unclean [defiled, ceremonially impure] until [as far as, up to] evening [the time of sunset, the end of the day]. word study 6 Whoever sits [to dwell, remain] on furniture [any article or utensil] on which the man with the discharge [having a flow, an unclean issue] was sitting must wash [to clean, purify] his clothes [garments, covering] and bathe [to wash, cleanse] with water [a source of refreshment], and he will be unclean [to defile, morally or ceremonially contaminated] until [as far as, till] evening [sunset, the end of the day]. word study 7 Whoever touches [comes into physical contact with] the body [flesh, the physical person] of the man with a discharge [a flow, a bodily issue] must wash [cleanse, purify] his clothes [garments, outer coverings] and bathe [immerse, wash thoroughly] with water [the liquid, a source of refreshment], and he will be unclean [defiled, ceremonially impure] until [as far as, up to] evening [sunset, the end of the day]. word study 8 If the man with the discharge [having a flow, unclean issue] spits [to spit, in contempt] on one who is clean [pure, ceremonially clean], that person must wash [to cleanse, purify] his clothes [garments, robes] and bathe [to wash, cleanse] with water [the liquid, source of refreshment], and he will be unclean [defiled, contaminated] until [as far as, till] evening [sunset, end of day]. word study 9 Any [leather] saddle [or chariot, vehicle] on which [upon, above] the man [who has the issue, with a discharge] with the discharge [to flow, a continuous movement] rides [to ride, to place upon a horse] will be [to defile, become foul] unclean [morally or ceremonially contaminated]. word study 10 Whoever touches [comes into physical contact with, reaches out to] anything that was under him [beneath, underneath] will be unclean [ceremonially defiled, contaminated] until evening [sunset, the end of the day], and whoever carries [lifts, bears] such things must wash [cleanse, purify] his clothes [garments, attire] and bathe [wash himself, cleanse his body] with water [the liquid, a source of refreshment], and he will be unclean [defiled, impure] until evening [the time of sunset]. word study 11 If the man with the discharge [having a flow, an unclean emission] touches [to come into physical contact, to reach] anyone without first rinsing [washing, cleansing] his hands [an open hand; strength, a side or share] with water [a source of refreshment, purification], the one who was touched [made contact with, came into proximity] must wash [to clean, purify] his clothes [garments, coverings] and bathe [to wash, cleanse the body] with water [a means of cleansing, renewal], and he will be unclean [defiled, ceremonially impure] until [as far as, up to the point of] evening [sunset, the end of the day]. word study 12 Any clay pot [earthen vessel, ceramic item] that the man with the discharge [issue, flow] touches [comes into contact with, reaches] must be broken [shattered, ruptured], and any wooden utensil [article of wood, tree-based item] must be rinsed [overflowed, cleansed] with water [liquid refreshment, source of purification]. word study 13 When the man has been [completely, fully] cleansed [purified, made clean] from his discharge [bodily flow, issue], he must count off [number, reckon] seven days for his cleansing [purification, ritual purity], wash his clothes [garments, attire], and bathe himself [immerse, wash his body] in fresh [running, living] water, and he shall be [declared, considered] clean [pure, righteous]. word study 14 On the eighth [eighth day of purification] day he is to take [receive, acquire] two turtledoves or two young pigeons [a dove or pigeon], come before [into the presence of] the LORD [Yehovah] at the entrance [doorway, threshold] to the Tent of Meeting [tabernacle, sacred assembly], and give [offer, present] them to the priest [spiritual leader, mediator]. word study 15 The priest [servant of God, spiritual leader] is to sacrifice them, one [the first, a single offering] as a sin offering [for atonement, to purify] and the other [the second, a complementary sacrifice] as a burnt offering [completely consumed, a total dedication]. In this way the priest [the mediator, intercessor] will make atonement [to cover, reconcile] for the man [the individual, the person] before the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] because of his discharge [bodily flow, issue of his seed]. word study 16 When a man [male person, individual] has an emission [release, seed of copulation] of semen [seed, layer of something], he must bathe [wash, cleanse] his whole body [all his flesh, entire being] with water [liquid, source of refreshment], and he will be unclean [defiled, contaminated] until [as far as, till] evening [sunset, end of the day]. word study 17 Any [every, all kinds of] clothing [garment, robe] or leather [skin, animal hide] on which [upon, above] there is [happens to be, occurs] an emission [seed, layer] of semen [seed of copulation, seed of offspring] must be washed [cleaned, purified] with water [liquid, source of refreshment], and it will remain [continue to be, stay] unclean [foul, contaminated, defiled] until [as far as, till] evening [sunset, end of day]. word study 18 If a man [male person, individual] lies [has sexual relations, rests] with a woman [female person, wife] and there is an emission [release, discharge] of semen [seed, layer of something], both must bathe [wash, cleanse] with water [liquid, source of refreshment], and they will remain unclean [foul, contaminated] until [as far as, till] evening [sunset, end of day]. word study 19 When a woman [a female person, wife] has a discharge [flow, issue] consisting of blood [the liquid essential for life] from her body [flesh, physical being], she will be unclean [ceremonially impure, separated] due to her menstruation [monthly period, impurity] for seven days, and anyone who touches [physically contacts, reaches] her will be unclean [defiled, contaminated] until [as far as, till] evening [sunset, the end of the day]. word study 20 Anything [all objects, everything] on which she lies [to rest, to sleep] or sits [to dwell, to remain] during her menstruation [impurity, ceremonial uncleanness] will be unclean [defiled, contaminated], word study 21 and anyone who touches [comes into physical contact with] her bed [place of rest or intimacy] must wash [cleanse or purify] his clothes [garments or outer covering] and bathe [immerse or wash the body] with water [the liquid essential for life], and he will be unclean [defiled or ceremonially impure] until [as far as or up to] evening [time of sunset or day’s end]. word study 22 Whoever touches [comes into contact with, reaches out to] any furniture [article, utensil, object] on which she was sitting [dwelling, remaining] must wash [cleanse, purify] his clothes [garments, robes] and bathe [immerse, wash himself] with water [the liquid, a source of refreshment], and he will be unclean [defiled, contaminated] until [as far as, till] evening [sunset, the end of the day]. word study 23 And whether it is a bed [a place of rest] or [any] furniture on which she was sitting [to dwell, remaining], whoever touches [reaches, comes into contact with] it will be unclean [defiled, contaminated] until [as far as, till the point of] evening [sunset, the end of the day]. word study 24 If a man [any male person] lies with her [has sexual relations, copulates] and her menstrual flow [impurity, ceremonial uncleanness] touches him, he will be unclean [defiled, ceremonially contaminated] for seven days, and any bed [place of rest, intimate relations] on which he lies [rests, sleeps] will become unclean [defiled, contaminated]. word study 25 When a woman [a female person] has a discharge [flow, issue] of her blood [the liquid essential for life] for many [numerous, several] days at a time other than her menstrual [monthly, impurity] period, or if it continues [to flow, runs] beyond her period, she will be unclean [impure, ceremonially defiled] all the days of her unclean [morally corrupt, spiritually impure] discharge, just as she is during the days of her menstruation [separation, impurity]. word study 26 Any bed [place of rest or intimacy] on which she lies [to recline or sleep] or any furniture [article or utensil] on which she sits [to dwell or remain] during the days [period of time] of her discharge [bodily flow] will be unclean [impure, tainted by sin], like her bed [a place of sleep or intimacy] during her menstrual period [time of impurity]. word study 27 Anyone who touches [comes into contact with, reaches out to] these things will be unclean [defiled, contaminated]; he must wash [cleanse, purify] his clothes [garments, attire] and bathe [immerse, wash himself] with water [the liquid, a source of refreshment], and he will be unclean [impure, foul] until [as far as, till] evening [sunset, the end of the day]. word study 28 When a woman is cleansed [purified, made whole] of her discharge [menstrual flow, bodily issue], she must count off [recount, number to herself] seven days, and after [following, subsequent to] that she will be ceremonially [ritually, morally] clean [pure, holy, set apart]. word study 29 On the eighth [following seven days] day she is to take [for herself, unto her] two turtledoves [or two young pigeons, as a symbol of love and peace] or two young pigeons [doves, representing warmth and innocence] and bring them to the priest [who serves God and leads others in worship] at the entrance [doorway, threshold] to the Tent [tabernacle, nomad’s home] of Meeting [a sacred appointed time, festival]. word study 30 The priest [the one who serves God and leads others in worship] is to sacrifice one as a sin offering [for purification from guilt, a sacrifice to atone for sin] and the other as a burnt offering [a step or stairs, often used to describe the ascent to the altar]. In this way the priest will make atonement [to cover, coat, or protect] for her before the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] for her unclean discharge [a bodily flow, including menstrual flux, a state of uncleanness]. word study 31 You must keep the children [descendants, sons] of Israel separate from their uncleanness [impurity, sinful conditions], so that they do not [shall not] die by defiling [making foul, contaminating] My tabernacle [holy tent, sacred dwelling place], which [that is] is among them [in their midst, surrounded by]. word study 32 This [the following instruction] is the law [instruction, guiding principle] of him who has a discharge [a flow from his body, an issue], of the man who has an emission [release, seed of copulation] of semen [seed, layer of something] whereby [by which means, as a result] he is unclean [defiled, morally or ceremonially contaminated], word study 33 of a woman [in her monthly menstrual period, sick of her flowers] in her menstrual period [separation, impurity], of any male [man, male person] or female [girl] who has a discharge [issue, flow], and of a man [individual, person] who lies [sleeps, has sexual relations] with an unclean [impure, defiled] woman [girl].’” word study
