BSA1 These [specific, particular] were the sons [descendants, heirs] of David [the youngest son of Jesse, a king of Israel] who were born [brought into existence, given birth] to him in Hebron [a place in Palestine, a city of refuge]: The firstborn [the first in order of birth, holding a special status] was Amnon [faithful, trustworthy] by Ahinoam [a wife of King David, from Jezreel] of Jezreel [a city in Israel, a fertile valley]; the second was Daniel [God is my judge, a son of David] by Abigail [a wise and kind woman, from Carmel] of Carmel [a mountain in Israel, a place of beauty and fertility]; word study 2 the third was Absalom [Abi, a son of King David] the son [a male child or descendant] of Maacah [meaning’oppression’, a woman’s name] daughter [a female child or a woman] of King [a ruler or monarch] Talmai [a Canaanite and Syrian king] of Geshur [a district in Syria or north Transjordania]; the fourth was Adonijah [a name meaning’my Lord is Yahweh’] the son [a male child or descendant] of Haggith [a woman’s name meaning’festive’]; word study 3 the fifth was Shephatiah [son of the judge, a leader] by Abital [one of King David’s wives, mother of Shephatiah]; and the sixth was Ithream [a son of King David, having many half-brothers] by his wife [female partner] Eglah [one of King David’s wives, mother of Ithream]. word study 4 These six [born unto him] sons were born to David in Hebron [the city of peace], where he reigned [as king, ruled] seven years and six [a completeness of time] months.
