Therefore I must make preparations [to set up, to establish, to prepare] for it.” So David made lavish [abundant, plentiful] preparations [to set up, to establish, to prepare] before his death [the end of life, to die]. word study 6 Then David called [summoned, sent for] for his son Solomon [his successor] and instructed [commanded, gave orders to] him to build [construct, establish] a house [temple, dwelling place] for the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God], the God [Elohim, the supreme deity] of Israel [the descendants of Jacob, God’s chosen people]. word study 7 “My son [descendant, child],” said David [the king of Israel] to Solomon [his successor], “it was in my heart [innermost being, mind] to build [construct, establish] a house [dwelling place, temple] for the Name [reputation, character] of the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] my God [Elohim, the one supreme deity], word study 8 but this word [message, utterance] of the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] came to me: ‘You have shed [poured out, spilled] much blood [life, vitality] and waged [fought, engaged in] great [intense, fierce] wars [battles, conflicts]. You are not to build [construct, establish] a house [temple, dwelling place] for My Name [reputation, character] because you have shed [poured out, spilled] so much blood [life, vitality] on the ground [earth, land] before Me [in My presence, sight]. word study 9 But a son [born to you, a male child] will be born to you who will be a man [a male person, an individual] of rest [a state of quietness, peacefulness]. I will give him rest [a resting place, freedom from war] from all his enemies [those who hate or oppose him] on every side [around, surrounding him]; for his name [identity, character] will be Solomon [a king of peace], and I will grant [give, bestow upon] to Israel [the descendants of Jacob, God’s chosen people] peace [completeness, wellness, friendship] and quiet during his reign [time of ruling, kingdom]. word study 10 He is the one who will build [construct, establish] a house [dwelling place, temple] for My Name [My identity, reputation]. He will be [become, be considered] My son [offspring, descendant], and I will be [become, act as] his Father [parent, protector]. And I will establish [set up, confirm] the throne [seat of power, authority] of his kingdom [royal power, dominion] over Israel [God’s people, the nation] forever [always, eternally].’ word study 11 Now [at this time, in this moment], my son [offspring, descendant], may the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] be with [together with, accompanying] you, and may you succeed [prosper, have good success] in building [constructing, establishing] the house [dwelling place, temple] of the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] your God [Elohim, the one supreme God], as He [the Lord, God] said [spoken, promised] you would [as He has spoken concerning you]. word study 12 Above all [surely, certainly], may the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] give you insight [discretion, wisdom] and understanding [intelligence, discernment] when He puts you in command [charge, authority] over Israel [the descendants of Jacob], so that you may keep [obey, guard] the Law [instruction, Torah] of the LORD [the supreme God] your God [Elohim, the one supreme God]. word study 13 Then you will succeed [prosper, be successful], if you carefully follow [obey, keep] the statutes [decrees, laws] and ordinances [judgments, regulations] that the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] commanded [gave orders to] Moses for Israel [the descendants of Jacob]. Be strong [strengthened, courageous] and courageous [of good courage]. Do not be afraid [fear, revere] or discouraged [dismayed, broken]. word study 14 Now behold [look, see], I have taken great pains [in my affliction, with much trouble] to provide for the house [dwelling place, temple] of the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God]—100,000 talents [a unit of weight or currency] of gold [a valuable metal], 1,000,000 talents of silver [a precious metal, money], and bronze [copper, a base metal] and iron [a strong metal] too great [in abundance, beyond measure] to be weighed [measured, counted]. I have also provided [established, set up] timber [wood, trees] and stone [rocks, precious gems], and you may add [increase, do more] to them. word study 15 You also have many [skilled and abundant] workers: stonecutters [hewers of stone], masons [workers of stone and timber], carpenters [craftsmen of wood], and men [experts, cunning men] skilled [wise, knowledgeable] in every kind [all manner] of work [employment, occupation, labor]— word study 16 in gold [and precious metals] and silver [or money], bronze [or copper] and iron [a strong metal]—craftsmen beyond number [too many to count]. Now begin [arise and be doing] the work, and may the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] be with you [together, in accompaniment].” word study 17 Then David [the king of Israel, a leader of God’s people] ordered [commanded, gave charge to] all [every single one, the entire group] the leaders [rulers, princes] of Israel [God’s chosen people, the descendants of Jacob] to help [assist, give aid to] his son [offspring, descendant] Solomon [a king of Israel, successor of David]: word study 18 “Is not the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] your God [Elohim, the supreme God] with you [in your midst, accompanying you], and has He not granted you rest [peace, tranquility] on every side [around, surrounding you]? For He has given the inhabitants [dwellers, residents] of the land [country, territory] into my hand [power, control], and the land [earth, region] has been subdued [conquered, overcome] before the LORD [Yehovah] and His people [nation, community]. word study 19 Now [at this time, presently] set your heart [the innermost part of your being, including mind, will, and emotions] and soul [the essence of your being, your living spirit] to seek [to ask, to worship, to inquire of] the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] your God [Elohim, the supreme God]. Get started building the sanctuary [a holy place, set apart for God] of the LORD God, so that you may bring [to come, to enter, to introduce] the ark [a chest, a box] of the covenant [a promise, an agreement] of the LORD and the holy [set apart, consecrated] articles [utensils, vessels] of God into the temple [the house, the dwelling place] that will be built [constructed, established] for the Name [the identity, the character, the reputation] of the LORD.” word study
