18 Bible Verses on The Dead

18 verses

In the Bible, death is seen as a universal reality that affects all people, with Ecclesiastes noting that the dead are conscious of nothing. The author of Hebrews reminds us that judgment follows death, emphasizing the importance of being prepared to meet God. According to Psalms, the dead do not praise God, highlighting the significance of worship and witness during our lifetimes. The New Testament, particularly in 1 John and 1 Thessalonians, encourages believers to have hope and comfort in the face of death, knowing that God's love and power can overcome even death itself.

For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing. They have no further reward, because the memory of them is forgotten.
Just as man is appointed to die once, and after that to face judgment,
It is not the dead who praise the LORD, nor any who descend into silence.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Then you will behave properly toward outsiders, without being dependent on anyone. Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who are without hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise.
You must not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out, or you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.
Now there was a rich man dressed in purple and fine linen, who lived each day in joyous splendor. And a beggar named Lazarus lay at his gate, covered with sores and longing to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. One day the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. And the rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from afar, with Lazarus by his side. So he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. For I am in agony in this fire.’ But Abraham answered, ‘Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things. But now he is comforted here, while you are in agony. And besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that even those who wish cannot cross from here to you, nor can anyone cross from there to us.’ ‘Then I beg you, father,’ he said, ‘send Lazarus to my father’s house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also end up in this place of torment.’ But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let your brothers listen to them.’ ‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone is sent to them from the dead, they will repent.’ Then Abraham said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
When men tell you to consult the spirits of the dead and the spiritists who whisper and mutter, shouldn’t a people consult their God instead? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned.
And besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that even those who wish cannot cross from here to you, nor can anyone cross from there to us.’
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing. They have no further reward, because the memory of them is forgotten. Their love, their hate, and their envy have already vanished, and they will never again have a share in all that is done under the sun.

So Saul died for his unfaithfulness to the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, and he failed to inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.
Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.
before the dust returns to the ground from which it came and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
