14 Bible Verses on Playing the Lottery

14 verses

The pursuit of wealth through chance, such as playing the lottery, is cautioned against in Scripture. Proverbs 13:11 warns that wealth gained quickly will dwindle, while Proverbs 19:17 reminds us that lending to the poor is a more honorable pursuit. The Bible teaches that our trust should be in God, not in get-rich-quick schemes, as expressed in Hebrews 13:5, and that the love of money can be a root of evil, as noted in 1 Timothy 6:10. Ultimately, we are called to serve God, not money, as Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:24.

He who loves money is never satisfied by money, and he who loves wealth is never satisfied by income. This too is futile.
Of course, godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, so we cannot carry anything out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these. Those who want to be rich, however, fall into temptation and become ensnared by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. As good stewards of the manifold grace of God, each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve one another.
A faithful man will abound with blessings, but one eager to be rich will not go unpunished.
For even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “If anyone is unwilling to work, he shall not eat.”
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts,
