6 Bible Verses on Intercessors

6 verses

In Scripture, certain individuals are called to intercede on behalf of others, praying fervently for their needs and well-being. Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit as a helper and intercessor, as seen in John 14:16, and Himself intercedes for believers, as described in Romans 8:34 and John 17:18-23. The apostle John also writes that Jesus Christ is our advocate, pleading our case before the Father, as noted in 1 John 2:1. According to 1 Timothy 2:5, Jesus is the one mediator between God and humanity, and believers are encouraged to follow His example in praying for others.

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever—
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God—and He is interceding for us.
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate before the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
As You sent Me into the world, I have also sent them into the world. For them I sanctify Myself, so that they too may be sanctified by the truth. I am not asking on behalf of them alone, but also on behalf of those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I am in You. May they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. I have given them the glory You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are one— I in them and You in Me—that they may be perfectly united, so that the world may know that You sent Me and have loved them just as You have loved Me.
“Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”
