As followers of Christ, believers are called to shine brightly in a world filled with darkness. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches that His disciples are the light of the world, and that their good deeds should be visible to all, as seen in Matthew 5:14-16. Later, Jesus declares Himself the light of the world in John 8:12, and commissions His followers to spread this light to all nations, as referenced in Acts 13:47. By living out their faith, Christians can reflect God's light, as encouraged in Ephesians 5:8, and bring glory to their Father in heaven, as Jesus notes in Matthew 5:16.

so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world as you hold forth the word of life, in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.
