Evaluation
In the Bible, the concept of evaluation often pertains to the assessment of one's actions, character, and faithfulness in relation to God's standards. The Hebrew word "בּחן" (bachan) and the Greek word "δοκιμάζω" (dokimazo) convey the idea of testing, proving, or examining. For instance, in Psalm 26:2, David asks God to "examine me, O Lord, and try me; test my mind and my heart," indicating a desire for divine evaluation to reveal his true character (Psalm 139:23-24 also echoes this sentiment). In the New Testament, the idea of evaluation is further emphasized in 2 Corinthians 5:10, where Paul writes, "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil." This highlights that believers will ultimately be evaluated by Christ based on their deeds. Additionally, James 1:12 states, "Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him." Thus, evaluation in the biblical context is deeply tied to faithfulness, integrity, and the ultimate accountability to God's judgment.
