Divine Counsel

1 sermons

Divine counsel is a profound theme woven throughout Scripture, illustrating the wisdom and guidance that God offers to His people. In Proverbs 19:21, we are reminded that "many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails," emphasizing that divine counsel ultimately directs our paths. This counsel is not merely advisory; it is rooted in the omniscience of God, as seen in Isaiah 40:13-14, where it asks rhetorically, "Who can fathom the Spirit of the Lord, or instruct the Lord as his counselor?" Here, we recognize that God's wisdom surpasses all human understanding. Furthermore, in James 1:5, believers are encouraged to seek divine wisdom, as it is promised that "if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without finding fault." This assurance invites us to rely on God's guidance in our decision-making. Jesus exemplifies this divine counsel in His earthly ministry, particularly in His prayer life, as depicted in Luke 6:12-13, where He sought the Father’s direction before choosing His disciples. Ultimately, the knowledge of Jesus Christ, as Paul emphasizes in 1 Corinthians 2:2, is the greatest wisdom we can attain, for in Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3). Thus, embracing divine counsel is essential for living a life that aligns with God's will.
