Atoning Work

1 sermons

The atoning work of Christ is a profound and central theme in Scripture, revealing God's redemptive plan for humanity. This work is most vividly illustrated in Isaiah 53:5, where it is proclaimed that "He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed." The sacrificial death of Jesus fulfills the Old Testament sacrificial system, as seen in Leviticus 16, where the Day of Atonement illustrates the necessity of blood for the remission of sins. In the New Testament, Hebrews 9:22 reinforces this truth, stating, "without the shedding of blood there is no remission." Jesus’ atoning work is not only a historical event but also a present reality, as Paul writes in Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Furthermore, John 3:16 encapsulates the essence of this work, emphasizing that God’s love is the driving force behind the atonement, offering eternal life to all who believe. The Twenty-Second Psalm poignantly foreshadows the suffering of Christ, providing a prophetic glimpse into the depths of His sacrifice, making the atoning work a cornerstone of Christian faith and hope.
