¹ ISA 34:15 The exact meaning of דגר here is much discussed. There is a succession of 3 verbs indicating actions of a mother-bird in relation to eggs. NRSV translates בקע as "hatch" and דגר as "brood", and NJPS the other way round, though interpreting them as practically synonyms | RSV REB "gather", implying a movement that either comes before the hatching or (in some way) after it, as the order in the text suggests. The best course could be to follow the meaning of דגר in JER 17:11, which with more probability points to "hatch".
